Happy Turkmen Carpet Day! The Turkmen carpet is one of the most renowned elements of Turkmen cultural heritage. The process of carpet weaving has been celebrated by many artists in their works, but Bayramov’s 1971 work “Turkmen Carpet Makers” is considered to be one of the most successful depictions of this intricate process. In order to capture the fluidity of the women’s movements, their skilled and gentle hands, Bayramov carefully studied the process of carpet weaving. While he was watching the women work at the carpet factories, he made hundreds of sketches and photographs – Bayramov did not want to simply understand the technical aspect of carpet making, he wanted to capture the spiritual value of this centuries-old activity that represents the distinct flavour of Turkmen culture. He was able to disclose to the viewer the “soul” of carpet making – his weavers seem to be moving within the composition, you can feel the threads between their fingers. "Turkmen Carpet Makers" is currently preserved in the National Tretyakov Art Gallery in Moscow. ***** С Днем туркменского ковра!
