“Do you doubt that I would?” He smiled coyly at her, a hand coming up to brush a strand of hair off her face, tucking it behind her ear. “I was about to come break you out of your locked tower, Princesse.” He meant it too, if his letter had gone unanswered he’d planned on knocking down her parents door until they’d let her come back with him. Not the wisest plan, but Paris was a passionate man. “I have all I want right here.” He leaned in and kissed her softly again, drowning in the scent of roses that he loved so much.
“Although, I have a gift for you.” He grasped her hand and led her to the bench he’d been sitting on before, thankful that the courtyard was still empty. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small velvet pouch. “If you’ll accept it.”
“Well, you’re needed here,” she hummed quietly. A tiny laugh escaped her lips. “I wish you had. My parents contemplated for weeks what to do with me while all the outside time I was allowed was the rose garden. It was unbearably lonely.” This was an entirely new them, a different Paris even, not giving out kisses sparingly but more than willingly. If he were like this, holding her in his arms and showering her with affection, all the time, could they’ve been spared the pain they’d both put themselves through?
She followed him to the bench and sat down, keeping his hand in hers even when he pulled out the small pouch. “What is it?” she asked, curiously glancing up at him.
