Born in 1922, Greta was just about the sweetest girl you’ve ever met. That was, until her boyfriend turned her into a vampire when she was 18. When he said he was “saving himself” until she turned 18, she thought he meant sex, not turning her into a vampire. She killed that vampire after he was abusive and almost drove a steak through her heart out of intimidation of leaving. Once she got the mental and physical strength, she killed him and got all his money.

Over the years, she’s been masquerading as a high school/college student, dressing very sweetly and being very nice to curb any suspicion. Greta wanted to find a way to feed on blood discreetly and in public, trying to live a normal life. This caused her to pursue a PhD in Biology and Chemistry from MIT. She invented a lipstick (and in the 2000s, tinted lip gloss) that has blood in it, making it an easy way to feed in public. She also told people she drank a “prescription” juice that was in a water bottle she carried around with her, it was blood.

She slipped up, though. Her blood supply was tainted, poisoned by her liquid vervain that she stored above it. There was a party in the woods that got out of hand, blood was spilled with the students, by Greta. They said it was a massive animal attack. It wasn’t long until the recruiters from the Salvatore School showed up. She thought it wouldn’t hurt to learn more and try to control whenever she slips up. She does feel out of place a bit at the school, she could be the great-grandmother to most of the students there. 

It’s also the first environment where she doesn’t haver to hide who she is, she doesn’t have to lie, not anymore. She hasn’t really had any real concrete friendships. Greta has always just gotten enough to scrape by, that she can survive and that would be enough. Having her formative years take place during World War 2 had a massive effect on how she views life, that she needs to move on with little emotional connection to anybody.

The male had no idea what possessed him. Maybe the nostalgia of the song. Memories of a easier time. A time where he didn’t have to hide in darkness, where there had been no running. A part of him so desperately wanted to return to a moment like that. 

Tobias smiled as she moved in closer. Gently his arm encircled her waist, drawing her closer to his chest. A small smile slipped and his chest vibrated with a chuckle. “I haven’t danced in decades. Probably two left feet.”

“It’s no worries, not everyone can go to over 150 school dances like me.” Greta said as she got pulled in and smiled at him. She closed her eyes as she took in the music. “No decade dance can compare to a real person from back then.”

Alec did yoga outside every other day, it helped with his muse and with his anxiety. His last painting was unfinished and he needed any inspiraton he could get. He sat cross-legged on the grass and worked on his breathing when he remembered today was a special date. It ocurred to him, then, that if so many crazier things were real, why wouldn’t the force be? He stared intensely at an empty bottle on the ground and held out his hand as he tried to move it with his mind.  

Greta was taking a walk to think, all that’s been happening, and to clear her head. She was about to walk past this man doing yoga on the grass when she thought she recognized him. Walking backwards, she looked down at him, and she was right. “Alec? Alec Saltzman? Is that you?”

“I…yeah, I sought out the school because of an incident myself. Training can be great, but hard work. I hope it doesn’t take an eternity to learn how to control it.” Her head tilted to the side when she mentioned inventions. “What kind of inventions?” 

Greta nodded her head in understanding, she remembers how she was when she first turned. She had her abusive ex-boyfriend to help her out, but he wasn’t much help. “Oh, come on in! I can show you.” Greta said as she stepped to the side for her to enter her room.

He knew there would be questions from everyone. Coming back from the dead, it wasn’t unusual in the supernatural world of course, but it was still a big deal. “I was on the other side. I was watching Hope, as I often did. Then a flash and suddenly I was here again.”

She recognized that name, Hope. A student here, she must be his daughter. “Interesting...and how hungry are you? Do you have the same powers as before?”

Violet held out the package, a small smile tugging on her lips. “Violet, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Greta. I’m here to learn how to control these new cravings for blood I have…I’m pretty new to being what I am. How about yourself?”

“Nice to meet you, Violet. I had an incident a little bit ago and Headmaster Saltzman is having me do more control training with feeding. It was just a one time thing but it never hurts to have more training. I’m 106, I have years of practice, and I have some inventions that might help you.”

Klaus laughed with her for a moment. “No, no I don’t think I could pull of a skirt.” Klaus said. “I’ll have to let you know. Mind you I’ve been dead for a few years, so my blood intake need is slightly higher.”

Greta smiled at his comment. “Really? Oh well you’re one of the people that have come back from the dead, then. Fascinating...” She got the voice memo app on her phone out. “Did you feel hunger or any bloodlust before, when you woke up...or..appeared? How did it happen? Sorry if that’s a lot of questions, you know, scientist and all.”

Lips curled listening to the song. The melody brought him back to sitting by the radio as the lights of the day seemed to fade. It was a simpler time. Taking a few more steps into the room, he nodded at her introduction. “Tobias Danvers.” For a moment he hummed the next line. “1944. I was in was overseas, fighting in the war.” 

“Do you dance Greta?” One a whim, he extended his hand. It had been a very long time since he had danced with anyone.

Listening to him, she was brought back to when she was in college, a sophomore. It seemed like every day that a brother, father, boyfriend, cousin, friend was dead, telegrams being sent out, delivering the horrible news. When she saw his extended hand, she smiled and took it happily. “Of course.” Greta brought herself into him and started to sway with him.

“Sorry,” Violet said after a moment of standing in the doorway with something in her hand. “This was outside your room…is it yours?” She felt slightly awkward asking something so silly.

“Oh! Yes, thank you!” Greta said as she made her way over to her in the doorway. “I’m Greta, what’s your name? And what brought you to the school?” She said as she took the package that she ordered from online.

His night was just beginning. Tobias has been living a reversed life since his turning. Not having the luxury of a daylight ring, the last eighty-five years had been spent in darkness. The urge to feed had been growing more steadily over the last few days and knew he would no longer be able to hold off. Opting tonight to bite the bullet, so to speak and leave the school to feed.

Upon his return, the nostalgic sounds emanated through the hallway. A small personal smile drifted over his expression. Quietly his mind drew the man back to a simpler time. A time before war and before blood. Following the sound and ducking his head in the doorway. “Sorry, Didn’t mean to disturb you. Is that "Paper Doll" by Mills Brothers? I haven’t heard that song before I was drafted.”

“Indeed it is.” Greta said as she giggled a bit, closing her journal. Standing up, she looked at him. “I was turned in the middle of the war, after I graduated high school. 1940.” She held out her hand to him. “Greta Grayson. I play this music when I miss home.” She smelled blood on him, he must have just fed.

Klaus popped it in his mouth. “No, no I don’t think red is my color either.” He joked. “Smart thinking.”

Greta couldn’t help but laugh at that one. “I always offer, you never know what someone’s life is like behind closed doors. They could do drag, you never know. But...what do you think? It’s supposed to last you for half the day, it’s worked for me, but each vampire is different.”

rebekah:

Greta was impressing Rebekah, as hard as that is to admit, the fact that she wasn’t just some pretty face, but she was actually smart and cultured, made Rebekah like her even more. Her eyes widened hearing Greta speak, nodding to herself. “I would seriously like to applause you right now, you’re extremely intelligent and very creative, love” Rebekah rubbed her lips together, the tip of her tongue taking a small lick of the blood before continuing. “I’m impressed, Greta. Truly. This idea is so smart and ingenious, I’m like your biggest fan now” she laughed softly, one hand reaching for the brunette’s hand in order to shake “Rebekah Mikaelson, pleasure to meet you. And I want some of those blood pills, like yesterday”  a laugh escaped her lips again, Rebekah reaching for her phone from the back pocket of her pants to check herself in the mirror. “Hmm. would you look at that? not only delicious and smart, but it also looks really good on the lips. I’m calling it right now, best invention of the century” she continued, putting her phone back and focusing on the brunette. “So, tell me love.. what else is there to be known about you? You’ve already impressed me with the PhD but there must be some dirty little secret in there. How did you become a vampire?” she finished, her curiosity growing more.

Greta’s cheeks couldn’t help but blush when she got the massive compliments from the other. She took the other’s hand that was extended to shake it. “Pleasure to meet you, Rebekah Mikaelson. It’s an honor to meet anyone who enjoys my inventions.” She reached for the little compact in her purse for the pills. “Absolutely, here’s a human blood pill. I’ve finalized a condensed blood pill that will give you enough blood to last you half the day.” Taking a pill out, she put it in her open hand for Rebekah to take. “Let me know what you think. I haven’t had any failures, with the human or animal versions.” A light giggle escaped her lips. “Um, I was turned on the night of my high school graduation by my ex-boyfriend. He wanted to save me for the right time. I thought it was sex, but turns out, it was to turn me. He turned out to be an abusive asshole. I ripped his heart out.”

“That’s me,” she stated, sitting down where Greta told her to and opening her notebook, taking out her pen and clicking it. She made a few notes already as Greta brought them out. “Interesting. How did you get enough nutrients from the blood into the pills and lipstick?” she questioned, picking up one of the capsules and taking a closer look. 

“I don’t have a PhD in Biology and Chemistry from MIT for nothing.” She said as she set them on the bed and got a little serving tray to place the items on. “I’ve been in the business for a while. You learn a thing or two about where to get which nutrients. The blood actually does more than you think it does.”

“Hey. I think I’m officially unpacked and moved in at the school. It’s shocking,” she stated with a grin, walking into the woman’s place and putting her purse down on a nearby table. “I wanted to come see your invention you were telling me about the other day. I brought my research journal and everything to make notes,” she stated, pulling the book out of her bag.

“Hello! Yes, Tessa, is it? Come on in!” Greta said, excitedly patting the spot on her bed before opening a chest on her shelf to get out her blood lipsticks and blood pills. “Blood lipstick and the blood pills, I haven’t had any failures with those so far.”

Greta was in the common area, many of the kids were getting ready for bed, but she was journaling and jotting down ideas. She had put on a Spotify 40′s playlist, it was surprisingly good. It seemed like she had caught the attention of someone walking into the room. “Hello, how are you tonight?”
