Sometimes I wish I could watch the Lord of the Rings again for the first time.

I love knowing all that I do now. I love that I know who should have been present and who was added. I love knowing how significant it was that Galadriel gave Gimli her hair. I love that after so long watching it still feels like coming home. Yet all this enjoyment is matured and even though I’m still wide-eyed and amazed, I long for seeing it all again.

I wish I could join the hobbits at the party tree and not know about the dragon. I wish I could relive the majesty of meeting the elves for the first time. I wish I could feel the same awe I did at seeing a Balrog as I did that first time in the theatre (although to be fair I still love it). I wish I didn’t know that Gandalf comes back. I wish I didn’t know if our heroes were going to make it. I wish I didn’t know what they were going to say before they say it.

Sometimes I wish it was possible to watch the Lord of the Rings again for the first time, so I could fall in love with it again for the first time.
