1. Snake Eater, Cynthia Harrell.⠀Funny enough, this song seems to be canon? It's in the Walkman music list in Peace Walker and even if it wasn't canon, it's a really nice song that really captures the vibe of a spy-thriller movie, which is the vibe MGS3 gives off!

2. Calling To The Night, Natasha Farrow. This one is the same thing as Snake Eater, it seems to be canon due to its inclusion in Peace Walker but this is also where I start to put in the lyrics! See, Calling To The Night starts the trend of songs reflecting Big Boss' feelings, specifically about The Boss! Case in point:

3. Heaven's Divide, Donna Burke. The SECOND piece of the puzzle, and perhaps the most telling. The lyrics are VERY clear that this song is all about the moment Naked Snake killed The Boss, it also basically tells us that Big Boss, following The Boss' death, basically wanted to die in order to be reunited with her and I LOVE that this is the case. He CLEARLY loved her in a very familial way.

4. Here's To You, Enrico Morricone & Joan Baez. So, the interesting thing about this track is that it works as a call-forward to the version we hear I think at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, but the instrumentals and tone of the vocals are different because Big Boss and Solid Snake are themselves different when nearing the end of their missions. Solid Snake kept doing the right thing and accomplished a very bittersweet ending to his mission, freeing the world. While Big Boss is in despair, as the lyrics of the song allude to but the upbeat tempo reflects how Big Boss justifies everything he does as "right", even if it isn't.

5. Sing A Song, The Carpenters. I simply can't have one of these lists WITHOUT including this one. It's canon in MGS because The Boss' AI plays it while stopping all-out nuclear war by sacrificing itself, just like the original flesh and blood Boss did in 1964. The fact that Big Boss listened to the song for a few seconds and asked, "Boss... Is that you?" HE KNEW. HE KNEW THAT WAS HIS MENTOR TALKING EVEN IN SONG. Even if the dumbass ended up misinterpreting her will but that's par for the course.

As a fun fact, Kojima originally wanted to use John Lennon's "Imagine" but trying to negotiate with Lennon's estate to use the song in the game failed cause Peace Walker technically featured weapons usage as well as for more dark reasons, so he had to settle for Sing instead.

Okay, this here is a tentative Cyberpunk verse, while mostly set in the Cyberpunk 2020, RED and 2077, it's p universal and can work if almost any futuristic setting. It goes under the cut for the length.

Following the Zanzibar Land Disturbance in December 24, 1999, Big Boss' body was recovered by the Patriots. Despite suffering major injuries, he was still alive. The Patriots then had him injected with nanomachines in order to artificially induce a coma, preserving him as an icon for the organization and his body was kept in cold storage, though he was still semi-aware.

In the years between 1999 and 2014, since he was sort of conscious, the Patriots AIs using a rudimentary copy/version of the then in -progress Soulkiller and made a backup-slash-copy of Big Boss' mind and was kept safe, just in case. Following Big Boss' final death in 2014, this backup was stored in some physical database. Following June 3, 2022 - The DataKrash - This backup drive was presummed destroyed.

However, sometime after the Fourth Corporate War, Militech decided to go one step further and started an offshoot of Project Cynosure where, instead of using Rogue AIs for various aplications, they decided to bring back one man. Militech had a lot of advantages already, since in early 2014, the Pentagon had declassified documents relating to Big Boss's exploits during the 1960s, which contributed to a resurgence in his popularity for the time. This influenced their decision on who to use for their Project.

Militech scoured the Net for any and all mentions of 'Big Boss' and hit the jackpot when they stumbled upon a data-packet labeled "N313 - JD". With the mind and personality secure, Militech subcontracted Biotechnica to clone Big Boss in his prime, circa 1974 to 1984. And Biotechnica delivered. Militech wanted a 1:1 copy of Big Boss, and they got it, complete with a missing right eye since the man was documented to have lost said eye in September 1964.

So, with the cloned body delivered, Militech got to work. The documents said that around 1984, Big Boss was noted to have a red bionic arm, crude by modern standards. The new arm was a prototype cyberarm that incorporated thickened myomar strands, reinforced joints and was shielded against EMP and microwaves to prevent malfunctions. This new arm also comes with an integrated "Mk.22 Hush Puppy". Unlike Blackhand's integrated SMG, Big Boss has a slim, retractable, integral smart-pistol in the forearm, chambered in a subsonic, 9mm tranquilizer rounds. It deploys into his palm in a fraction of a second.

On the other side of his chrome is his eye and his overall prototype cyberware. His left eye was fitted with a suite of tech including but not limited to:

Targeting Link: Advanced ballistics calculation that interfaces perfectly with his smartlink, optimized for rifles and pistols. It can track multiple targets, predict movement through cover, and highlight structural weaknesses.

Minimalist HUD: Clean, green, and simple. No adware, no spam, nothing that can be distracting. Just mission-critical data.

Kerenzikov: Where Blackhand had a Sandevistan, Big Boss has a Kerenzikov as a constant, low-level reflex boost that puts the world in slow-motion, giving him just enough time to react to enemies spotting hi and the like. It suits his style of CQC and prioritizes precise shooting over the burst-speed of a Sandy.

Subdermal Armor "Snake-Scale": Not full armor. This subdermal armor is designed to be light, flexible nanocarbon weave that provides excellent protection against blades and light ballistics, prioritizing mobility and silence.

Character Headcanons // Accepting

Okay so, I'm basically explaining what canon's told us about CQC!

Basically, Close Quarters Combat (CQC) was a system of combined combat techniques which allowed rapid alternation between armed and hand-to-hand combat while engaging enemy personnel. It was developed together by The Boss and Big Boss. The style also incorporated various grabs, chokeholds, strikes and throws to disarm and disable opponents. One powerful CQC slam could knock even the strongest opponent unconscious. In addition, CQC, when used by experts, could also be used to field-strip a firearm effortlessly.

This firearm field-strip is something that took Snake/Big Boss an unknown amount of time to master but he eventually put it to use on Kazuhira Miller during a backfired ambush on Big Boss's group (something that one of the guards had earlier warned Miller about, referring to it as his 'broken gun' trick).

The typical CQC stance had the user hold their gun, usually a one-handed weapon such as a pistol, with their dominant hand while supporting it with the other hand, which held their CQC knife. By using this stance, the gun remained steady for accurate engagement of opponents outside the range of unarmed combat, while allowing a quick transition to the knife for close-work.

And as we saw all throughout Snake Eater, Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, CQC is highly effective when it comes to, well, basically anything that is even vaguely humanoid shaped. Colonnel Volgin? Snake used CQC to kick his ass and he was like a whole head taller than Snake. The entirety of the Peace Sentinel forces? Bam, down. The Skulls? Venom Snake fought them relatively easily, he could even fight Quiet to a standstill!

So yah! CQC is a beast of a fighting style and it looks damn good in motion!
