AESTHETIC MOODBOARD — COLERIDGE “COLE” BARDOT
hvrleens:
“No, no, keep going. That was riveting,” the Belfast native teased, sitting down beside Cole, leaning into his space, honey brown eyes skimming over the inked words printed on the page. “This ambushed thing, does it say what kind of ambushed?” She raised a brow, looking up to meet his gaze, red varnished nails dragging through his soft curls at the base of his neck, twisting a brunette lock around her finger. “Like… a pretty new girl stealin’ ye’ away for the day?” Her fingertips trailed featherlight along the fabric of his shirt over his shoulder, head tilting some. “Feel like helping me put together some furniture? I’ve been putting it off for ages and it’s so tedious doing it alone.”
Cole let her invade his personal space because, in all reality, he didn’t mind if Harleen got close to him. So, he sat back as she began reading from the pages of the book in his lap. “—What? Oh,” He responded, shaking his head momentarily, and then continued on. “...Ambushed, right. Well,” Coleridge chuckled lightly ( preoccupied with thoughts of a nature that he’d only want to share with Harleen ) as he felt her perfectly manicured finger thread through his hairline. His sentence trailed off as he looked at her through matted eyelashes. “Heh, yeah, I guess that’d be the definition of an ambush,” He agreed, finger reaching over to trace the outside of her thigh for he was both mystified by and eager for the brunette practically clinging to him. “But, I don’t mind. It’d be my pleasure,” Cole commented, before he swallowed hard and then some more people walked by and he sat up straighter and closed his book and looked back at Harleen. “What’s the type of furniture we’re putting together, hm?” He questioned.

Penelope hadn’t meant to be where she was, in fact, missing the ferry had seriously put a damper on her day, and waiting around for the next one to come was going to take hours, so rather than panic like she wanted, she called her professors, thankful that Wednesdays were at least her least busy days of the week, and let them all know that she wasn’t going to be in for the day. Now she was sitting on a bench by the docks, wondering whether or not she should go home and sleep all day with Doug or do something interesting. When Cole, who’d been sitting beside her began to speak, she let herself be distracted, completely confused to what he was going on about until he realized he wasn’t speaking to the intended party. The older girl snorted, her head shaking, “Just as rambly as ever huh Coley?” She murmured, brushing off her scrub top before humming, “You wanna keep me company by reading into my actual dreams and getting some coffee with me? I’ve got no plans now for the day so.”
For the most part, Coleridge wasn’t sure why he liked analyzing people’s dreams so much. It was just something he liked doing. If it really came down to it, he might say that he liked helping people, but only if he had to pick a reason. It simply was just something that interested him. Cole only realized it wasn’t the person he was thinking had been sitting next to him when the blonde snorted in laughter and began to speak. He almost remembered the tone of the voice and recognized it as belonging to someone familiar. “—Huh?” He asked, looking up and over at her with a bashful gaze. “Oh, yeah,” He nodded, slightly embarrassed by the simple mistake he made. “Rambling is a hard habit to break for me,” Coleridge confessed and then was surprised at the offer of coffee and, not only that, but an offer to talk about one of his favorite things in the world: dreams. “S-Sure,” He stuttered out, overly excited to have someone to spend the rest of the day with. “Yeah, I’ll keep you company,” He gestured with his head in the direction of the nearest coffee house, and closed his book, and then stood up. “—You ready to go right right now?” Cole asked.

Jaxon had simply been walking by when the other began to talk to him, but was clearly impressed with the subject. A part of him wanted to chuckle, while he otherwise was intent on listening to where he was going with his analysis of paintball. “I’ll admit that I never thought that much into it,” he admitted, smiling at the look on the kid’s face. “Just paintball to me… but it’s all good. You play a lot?”
“Oh, really—?” Coleridge asked, with his jaw slack, and he was almost shocked that not everyone cared about the fantastical on-goings of their minds while they were sleeping. After all, most people stayed in reality; unlike Cole. “Yeah, I guess paintball really is just paintball, but... If you dream about certain colors, that always means something important. And, I was just trying to help out a confused friend who told me about their weird dream,” Cole chuckled too, content that the other was offering them a smile and not making fun of Coleridge’s favorite past-time. “I’ve played the game before,” He admitted with a nod. “But, I haven’t played in awhile. I should make more time for it because it was fun while I was actually doing it,” He explained, and then turned the conversation back on Jaxon. “Why? Do you play a lot?”

━━ Oriana listened carefully as he spoke, even though he was clearly not talking to her because she had never had a dream about paintball. Not that she remembered anyway, but the things the boy was saying were quite interesting and caught her attention. ❝ Oh, it’s fine. Does your book say anything about dreams that involve a tiger eating a person alive? and by a person I mean me. I literally have the creepiest dreams, but I can never figure out what they mean. I think I need to get myself that book.❞
For the most part, Coleridge wasn’t sure why he liked analyzing people’s dreams so much. It was just something he liked doing. If it really came down to it, he might say that he liked helping people, but only if he had to pick a reason. It simply was just something that interested him. Cole realized it wasn’t the person he was thinking had walked up to him when the brunette spoke. She looked interested too, though. It almost threw him for a loop the way she was pressed forward a bit, asking him for more information with a seemingly genuine smile. Sitting in a rather prominent part of where he was located, it was almost as if Cole was asking for others to stop by, although he wasn’t the most comfortable with the beginnings of social interactions and only found his footing once they had began. Cole smiled tightly and nodded as he listened to her explain that she had a dream about man-eating tigers. “Yeah, I’m sure that this book covers that topic too. There’s a whole section for animals and what they represent in dreams, actually,” He responded, answering her question. He often found dreaming was better than real and actual life and so he continued on, finally finding someone who shared his interest. “Um…” Cole began, looking back down at the book that was open to the page about color symbolism. Scratching at a phantom itch, he turned the pages until he located the right section. “What would you like to know? I can tell you about what tigers signify?” He continued on. “And you can tell me if it sounds like it coordinates with the dream you had?” He asked, looking up from the book and at the unfamiliar face once again; waiting for a response before he unleashed all his knowledge onto her.
“So I was looking up that dream you told me about, and like I thought, paintball has a lot of interpretations…” He tapped the page of the book opened on his lap, too excited to look up and check if the person who had approached him was who he was meaning to address. “You have potential to accomplish something great, but have to be careful about being ambushed— both literally or figuratively, I guess— by people around you. Even the color of the paint has meanings. Isn’t that… cool—?” He glanced up at the end of his sentence and trailed off, his smile slipping from his face. “Oh, I, uh— you’re not who I thought you were. Sorry.”
He was a fighter. He really was. I’ve watched people tear him down, and then ask for his help. And he would help them. He would spend hours helping them. I’ve always admired and hated that part of him.
