Magnus smiled as his head rested against Alec’s. It was so easy to forget and ignore everything that was happening outside. It was easy to forget how close he had been to death only a few hours before. None of it mattered right now. Alec was with him. Alec loved him. That was all Magnus cared about. “I’m sorry. I’ll never joke about it again. I am not going anywhere, okay? I promise. You don’t have to worry about me. I know you were, and I was worried about you too but I’m not going anywhere.” Magnus sighed, wanting to assure Alec that he never wanted to leave him. Magnus rarely cared what happened to himself but now he had somebody to live for.

“Hmm.” Magnus nodded, a slight grin now appearing on his face. “The very best. Ever better than Casanova who was nothing until I came along. You however had natural talent.” At the next statement Magnus felt his body tense slightly. That was a conversation he didn’t want to go back into. “Raphael isn’t solely to blame for that situation.”

alec took another sip of his beer and let his whole body relax, his shoulders rolling back as he tried to rid of the tension of the day. “good. of course i have to worry about you, if valentine’s waving the soul sword around, you’re the first person i’m going to worry about. i know it wasn’t his fault, but i swear i could have killed jace in that moment. me? what were you worrying about me for? madzie locked me in the elevator for half the time and the rest was spent battling with aldertree, who’s a dick, but a good fighter.”  

alec’s frowned at the mention of casanova “can we make a deal? no mentioning famous people you’ve been with?...or camille.” but a smirk soon appeared on his face and he looked at magnus, his brows raised. “natural talent huh?” he scoffed and shook his head. “come on, i get you not letting me beat him as much as i wanted to, but now you’re actually sticking up for him?” he sighed and pressed his face into magnus’s hair, his hands moving to rub his shoulders to make him less tense. “can we argue about this another time? i don’t wanna argue with you right now. especially not over him.”

Putting her hand up to the ocean, Moana waited patiently for the high-five she was expecting. Only a few moments later she found herself drenched. Shaking her head a few times as a slight smile formed across her features. “Not the first time you’ve played tricks on me. Doubt it’ll be the last.”

“woah, what the hell happened there, are you okay?” alec was never usually concerned about other people, especially mundanes but he sympathised with this girl for some reason. maybe this place was really starting to wear off on him. or it was one very annoying warlock’s voice in the back of his head telling him to be nice.

There were so many problems still happening around them and yet Magnus only felt relief and happiness. He knew that eventually it would somewhat wear off and he would have to go back to his duties as a member of the downwolder council. Many downworlders have been killed that evening and Magnus had a lot of work to do to ensure no one person was blamed for what had happened. He already knew a few who would want to see justice for the loss of their friends. Although Alec was by far his favorite shadowhunter, he didn’t want to see harm come to Clary and Jace either. Not because they tried to do the right thing and protect the downworld.

Magnus almost dropped his wine at the unexpected embrace and opted for placing it on the table in front of them so that it wouldn’t be spilled on his expensive Persian rug. “If I had stopped to send you a text I might have still be in the institute with Madzie when the blast went off. As soon as I had taken Madzie to Catarina’s I went straight back to find you. But next time I’m running for my life I will be sure to stop for a while to send you a I’m ok text.” Magnus teased knowing that Alec only wanted to know he was okay. He understood, he had been incredibly worried about Alec too. “I’m rather happy about that myself. I love you too, and I love the way that even now you continue to surprise me.

alec was sure that when morning came this giddy, dizzy feeling would change to dread. after all it was his parabatai who had activated the soul sword. but he would deal with that when it came, for now he just wanted to focus on everyone he loved being safe. it was even better than magnus had managed to protect madzie too, he’d formed an undeniable bond with her. he needed her to be safe too. he let his head fall down to lean on top of magnus’s and placed a soft kiss there. 

alec glared at him for a long moment and gritted his teeth together. “your death should not be brought up in a casual or joking manner, got it?” he stopped and moved to kiss him softly. “but you’re right, you did the right thing. i was just so scared. i was really worried about you.” he looked at magnus and gave him a shit-eating grin. “and you love that i’m the best out of the many lovers you’ve been with right?” he nudged mangus’s shoulder to let him know he was joking. “oh, don’t let me forget to text izzy in a bit. i wanna check in on her, make sure she’s doing alright without yin fen. or that dick of a vampire’s venom.”

Magnus had known he was in love with Alexander Lightwood for a long time but after a long list of people he had said the words to too early, he wanted to wait with Alec. It had been a surprise when he’d heard those words but after everything that day it was exactly what he needed to hear. After the incredibly long day they had both had Magnus insisted Alec go back to his, even if the shadowhunter probably had a lot of work to do he was sure Jace and Izzy could manage for a while on their own. Now that they were both safe Magnus wasn’t willing to let his boyfriend out of his sight for a while. 

As soon as they walked into the apartment Magnus turned to Alec. “Thirsty?” He asked and snapped his fingers summoning a glass of wine for himself and a beer for Alec, the one alcoholic drink he didn’t seem to completely hate, before even waiting for an answer. After the day they’d both had they needed a drink, or at least the warlock did. He walked over to the couch and sat, waiting for Alec to join him. “Are you coming love?”

alec felt drained of all his energy. the night had been a constant stream of worry for those he cared about, madzie, izzy, magnus. he couldn’t even begin to explain the fear he felt when he thought magnus had been one of the ones to die. a fear that wasn’t made any easier to think that his parabatai could be the reason he’s dead. but now he’d found magnus and he never wanted to let him go. it didn’t take much convincing for him to go back with magnus. even when the clave wanted him to stay to help deal with valentine and the missing soul sword, plus the mortal cup. 

alec nodded at magnus and could only hope he wouldn’t come up with another cocktail that alec would pretend to like in front of him. he smiled when he saw that magnus had brought him a beer, and realized the warlock really did know him well by now. the nickname only had alec’s smile widening, it was one he didn’t hate. he went to sit down next to the warlock, his arms immediately moving to wrap around magnus and hold on tight, not wanting to let him go in case he disappeared on him. “next time you move from where you’re supposed to be, text me.” alec grumbled, looking up at magnus with faux annoyance, but it immediately softened into a smile. “i’m just glad you’re here. glad i got to tell you i love you before it was too late.”

           it was back to new york for veronica. her mother had FINALLY found someone who would hire her despite her last name and so, the lodge women packed their things and left riverdale. her mother had found an apartment for the brunette to stay in that was close to her school and sent her on her way. with a HEAVY sigh, ronnie left the car and made her way into the streets. she looked at the address on the crinkled piece of paper and softly bit her lip. “ excuse me? ” she spoke, tapping a stranger on the shoulder. “ would you happen to know where this is? my phone’s almost dead so google maps is no help. ”

alec was supposed to put up his glamour while walking around the streets of new york, but it seemed he’d forgotten. he supposed it wasn’t that big of a surprise, with everything else running through his mind he was bound to forget something. he looked at the girl and nodded his head. “uh, sure. it’s just a couple of streets down. you just gotta make a left then a right and you’ll see it.”

Alec bit down on his lip for a moment and then nodded. "Just, remind me never to talk about your exes again." He gave Magnus a small smile and stepped closer to him, tentatively reaching out a hand to lace through Magnus's fingers. "This is worth working hard on." He let his eyes meet Magnus's before leaning in and kissing him softly.

Alec stepped with Magnus into it and felt a lot better for being somewhere familiar. He watched as Magnus poured a drink and tried to think of what he could say and how to say it. "We're very different." Well, pointing out the obvious was one way to go. "And this is gonna be so hard. We'll have to put a lot into it." He looked at Magnus, his eyebrows furrowing. "But I can only see you in my future too."

Alec looked at his drink and wondered if he should do the same, but he knew if he downed it, it'd all come straight back up again. So instead he took one more sip before wrinkling his nose again. Alec's hand inched towards Magnus momentarily before he looked around and kept it firmly at his own side. "You're past is hard, yeah. But you? No. I'm the one who's constantly screwing up and apologizing for it." He pressed his lips together firmly. "Can we talk about this back at home? Maybe portal there?"
