Keir wasn't a chaser. He wasn't one to mother, despite the jabs and accusations thrown at him once the crew was one too many drinks in.
He could argue that it was simply because he didn't have it in him, but frankly, he just didn't care enough to. Sure, he knew some people who needed to get their shit together. But that wasn't his problem.
Their shit, their problem.
Life was just easier that way.
But when he saw your cloak draped over the side of the sofa, it sat oddly in him, a discomfort that had him scooping it up before he could think twice. And then there he was, knocking at your door.
"Hey, you left your stuff out here."
Not that he cared. He couldn't care less about where you left your belongings, as long as you were neat about it. But you never went anywhere without your cloak, and he had slowly come to learn that you were a creature of habit.
He couldn't pinpoint exactly when he'd realized it, just that it sort of seeped into his way of life until he simply couldn’t deny it.
Maybe it was in the way you tidied the kitchen after meals. He chucked the dishes and silverware into wherever they fit. You took the time to sort them out, like you actually cared about this shithole.
Or maybe in the way you liked to organize his books alphabetically. Sometimes by title, sometimes by author. Oh yes, he noticed. He may be messy, but that didn't mean he didn't have a system in place. One that you'd completely ruined, by the way, but he found himself oddly... charmed more than anything else.
Or it could just be the little quirks he came to notice over time. The way you tilted your head when you were deep in thought. How you shifted your feet when you were uncertain. The soft hum when you were making a decision.
You were predictable. Maybe that was boring to most people, but in his wayward lifestyle, it was almost... comforting.
He knocked on your door again, more firmly this time. You probably wanted your cloak.
When you didn't answer, he glanced down at the doorknob. It was a boundary that had been crossed once— and only once. It had been an emergency. You were sick. He slipped in food and water. Both of you agreed to stop locking your doors after that incident, but that was still as far as he'd ever gone in your room.
This wasn't so much an emergency, but it bothered him. He figured it'd bother you too. And knowing you, you wouldn't mind terribly as long as he kept his presence at a minimum.
He opened the door to your room, and it was probably half way open when he found himself staring at your masked face.
"The fuck?" He jerked back, heart in his throat. After taking a moment to let it settle, he shot you a glare. "By the Lunar God's scars, why are you just standing there?"
But you could hardly explain, having doubled over in laughter at the sight of him. It was such a stupid sound —this whole situation was stupid— but it had his stomach doing somersaults.
His anatomy was so fucked.
"Oh hells," you giggled, hardly able to speak through the bouts of chuckles. "I-I can't believe you fell for it.”
“Explain.” He fought to keep his voice flat, steady.
“Griff and I bet 20 coin that you mother people when given the chance to,” you managed to get out while definitely wearing a shit-eating grin. “I was just wondering how far you'd go."
"You set me up." He was in near disbelief.
"And you are a nagger." You stepped out and shut the door behind yourself, snagging the cloak from his hands. "I'm gonna go collect. Don't wait up, mum."
He watched as you wrapped the fabric around yourself snuggly, then disappeared through the front door. Slowly, he shook his head, but failed to stop the corners of his lips from twitching upwards.
Just when he thought he had you pinned, you were something else.
But he didn't dwell on that for long— he was too busy chasing you right out the door because, well, he wasn't just about to let you ruin his reputation.
I just had a conversation about Chinese dramas and I remembered 2022 Hakuouki calendar, I love it (wished we had seen more characters that way) I mean come on we have 12 months?))
gosh okay. i’m still having a pinch me moment over this. i’ve spent about a year and a half on tumblr and reaching 5000 is just… crazy to me. like, imagining that many people in a room is horrifying. i know it’s just a value at the end of the day, but in all honesty, i’m a little scared of the number. scared but so so grateful. i will never be anything but grateful for the attention and love this story has received. truly.

The whole time I was reading Hideyoshi's My Lady Amnesia story, I knew it'd have a genuine crying sadboy moment where he had to be direct about his grief and anxiety. Since that kind of development is usually hard-won, I feel like like there's a payoff for all the tension and conflict and whatever right? I'm into it.
So I was having a good time, and the bittersweet confession scenes were really cute and I thought I knew how it would end.
And then!! My girl gets her memories back!! Because Hide's tongue was so good it reversed her brain damage!!!

i just finished bustafellows and i couldn’t NOT write something for shu after reading his bad end. it’s short and sweet tho, just some midnight ramblings
The world flows by in sepia. Shu watches it past listlessly.
Some days he feels as if he's watching the movie of his life, so clearly defined as before and after you. Before you was dull and repetitive, but at least he had something to grasp on when he felt like drowning. After you is like drifting in the ocean, constantly treading just enough to catch a breath before tumbling under.
Some days he feels too tired, too breathless to go on.
When he's not smoking, he's got another cigarette between his lips, a cheap lighter flicking at the end. He's quieter than he used to be, snappier when spoken to. He takes the riskiest jobs available and when the boys watch him leave, they wonder if it'll be the last time they'll see him.
He starts spending days, weeks, months away from home. His hands have never been so red. He's never felt so cold.
He'll lay in foreign hotel rooms the night after he's finished a mission, drinking until he's nauseous. If he drinks enough, sometimes he'll turn over and you'll be laying right next to him, trying to cozy up. Those moments are his happiest.
Then, because he's a fool and thinks that maybe if he drinks just a little more he may even be able to touch you, he passes the point of nausea. And he throws up. Again. And again. And again. Until he's sure he's never been so miserable in his life.
And as he looks at himself in the mirror, he wonders what you ever saw in him. Because all he sees is a coward who kills for a living. Maybe you thought he never had the capacity for it, but it’s another thing he’s proving you wrong now that you’re gone-- among a host of other vices he’s picked up. Anger and shame prickle his neck, fall from his cheeks in hot tears.
He’s treading but he doesn’t know how much longer he has. And maybe that’s for the best. Because he’s ready to stop treading, to fall into the serenity of the waves. And somehow he knows that you’re waiting for him within them, your open arms ready to pull him in.
It's finally here – on this White Day, the Hakuo Gakuen team is proud to present: an English patch of Hakuouki SSL!
We wouldn't have thought that, over half a year ago, we would be able to bring the entirety of the game's story into English and have it be playable on a PS Vita. But as we steadily made progress on translating the vast number of scripts in the game, eventually getting working versions of the patch on our own Vitas for testing, it became clearer and clearer to us that we were going to bring something exciting to the table for otome game fans everywhere.
There are countless many people we're thankful for – translators, proofreaders, and beta testers alike – all without whom none of this would have been made possible. And, above all, for the fans who have always wondered what goes on in this happy-go-lucky world of Hakuouki SSL, and newcomers who are curious as to what is even going on here – this one's for you!
