Hello!! How is everyone? I just wanted to pop in and provide a quick update regarding this story since I know Iāve been pretty MIA.
I mentioned in last monthās update that Iāll be really busy for the next few months, and itās because Iām actually on an internship overseas right now! I thought that while I was here, Iād still be able to write in my spare time, but Iāve been coming back home at 12am or later every day and I have not had the chance to do anything but try to catch up on sleep.
As such, Iāll be going on hiatus until I come back from my internship at the end of August/beginning of September. I know thatās a fairly long time and that this news isnāt the greatest, but I really donāt think Iāll be able to maintain this right now and I want to be honest with everyone. Iāll still try to answer asks when I can, but at least for the first few weeks as I settle in, you probably wonāt hear from me.
With all of that said, I still do not plan to stop working on When Twilight Strikes altogether. I will still write when I have time and will do a massive update when I return (which I hope will be exciting). You can still expect more content from me in the future; this is not the end!!

It's been a while since I've played the game and I haven't really been keeping up with your postings on Tumblr, but I have some free time in a long while now, and I want to play the game but I just wanted to ask that is it possible to get into someone's route without picking the romance dialogue options?
Technically ik they are there for a reason as a trigger mechanic for the ROs routes but I usually end up picking the more nonromantic/platonic options in spite of being well. Into the character bc for my MCs they just feel like the more in character option. āļø This is not a critique btw or even a suggestion to change the mechanics if it's needed I just wanted some clarification!! There is usually an outwardly spoken romantic dialogue option, and an internal option that expresses interest in the RO without being bold, which might suit your personality a little more.
If youāre talking about choosing neither of these, however, then yes, you wonāt be able to choose any romantic route. Itās done this way so that the relationship doesnāt feel out of the blue <3
sorry if this question bothers you! i totally get if you donāt want to answer it but i just read the ask about shipping characters and how it isnāt something you plan on implementing and was wondering what your current plans are on [A] and Rylan getting together if not romanced?
iāve followed this blog for a couple years now and i know the answer has varied depending on where youāve been at in the story and i think itās been a bit since you last discussed it so i was just wondering. especially as we approach book 2.
anyways thanks for everything you do! i loved the new chapter so much, i play everyoneās routes but my main two are K and N and getting the sweetness of N after the gut punch of Kās route was soooo good
Hmm thatās a good question. My answer does vary a lot haha, so honestly Iām not too sure right now.
I was very set on writing a poly route for [A] and Rylan way back when, but after the workload of Ch.13, Iām realizing that itās not very feasible. As such, I want to focus on writing the original 5 routes first and then add in these bonus routes at a later date, which would also be when this question comes into play.
The more I think about it, however, the more I think [A] and Rylan wouldnāt work as a couple without the Hunter. They are wonderful friends and fit together like two peas in a pod, but romantically, they need the Hunter as a buffer to bring out their potential. But, who knows? Maybe Iāll wake up tomorrow and feel otherwise.
Since this isnāt something Iām planning on writing anytime soon, my thoughts arenāt very concrete (and my answers even less). Iām open to hearing other peopleās opinions in the meantime. Sorry if this wasnāt helpful, but Iām glad you enjoyed N and K! <3

Iām not super against it, but itās not something Iād personally implement in future chapters so it can be irritating when I get an abundance of comments about it.
That said, I know a lot of people see chemistry between Blane + N and K + Rylan and I understand that, so thatās fine. Just donāt expect me to write scenes about them in that lens.

I'm still super behind on answering asks, but I've read through each and every one of them; I'm so glad that Ch.13 was positively received and (most) of you had fun playing (sorry K fans)! Some of the routes were definitely less happy than others, but I promise I will make it up to you down the line. Eventually...
When it comes to Ch.14, I'll admit that I took a bit of a break after Ch.13's release. I was burnt out and drained and wanted nothing less than to start working on another chapter, so I didn't open my Word application for at least 2-3 weeks. Because of that, this update is probably a little more boring than usual, so I hope that's okay. I feel revived after my break and while my pace is a little slow right now, as I grow more comfortable with writing again and as I re-immerse myself in the plot/world, things will slowly come back to me. This is a usual occurrence for me as a writer.
I only recently started writing Ch.14 but I didn't get too far into it, so there's not much to say at this point. I have a rough idea of what I want to convey with this chapter, but unlike most times, I didn't make an outline of the exact events that will unfold, so we'll see how that goes! Ch.14 makes a return to more plot-heavy content. As we near the end of Book 1, I'm focusing on wrapping up the current plotline and introducing the second one. There will still be some fun tidbits with the ROs, but for the most part, this chapter is an intensive conversation with Eliana. I'm not one to write super dark and heavy stuff, however, so I'm looking forward to sneaking some jokes in.
On that note, I also started writing a new short story for The Midnight Hours: Shorts. This one focuses on the ROs' thoughts on the Hunter when they first meet, at some point in the middle of the relationship, and then right after the kiss. It's a good exercise for me to ease back into writing (and also is a fun sneak peek into each ROs' head). I don't know when it'll be published as it's not my current priority, but I've written a short bit and it's been very fun! Excited for it.
That's my update for the month! Just a head's up that I'm very busy in my personal life for the next 4 months, so I'm not sure how much work I'll be able to get done for the game. But, of course, I'll try my best!

Hi! I've just discovered your game and am very excited to play it but I have a small question, I saw you posted a few guides on how to get the romantic route you want in your last chapter. So I was wondering; is it something "difficult" to get without a guide? I wanted to try by myself first but I am worried I'll pick the wrong choices and have to restart from the beginning. I guess I was wondering if the romantic routes are a bit "tricky" to get or if it is "obvious"? Or a bit in between lol
I wouldnāt say itās very hard. I would just stick to one RO during your playthrough, since this makes it easier to meet their romance requirements. Iād also suggest holding a positive opinion of supernaturals for any RO but [A]. Aside from that, I think youāll be fine. Itās quite obvious (at least to me).

Haha Iām actually pretty selective with what I answer, so I end up deleting a lot of the weirder ones. Trust me, Iām still not used to it. Most of my anons are lovely and so sweet, but there are still the odd few that are a bit parasocial about my work. Maybe thatās just how the current society is.
I honestly just think it takes some adjustment. It helps to have a firm line of things youāre willing to cross and things you are firm on too. I used to be such a pushover and change things just because done person didnāt like it. Now, I take the time to reflect on whether that feedback actually improves my game or if itās something someone else personally wants to see.
There are a lot of old posts I regret, and a few changes that I wish I didnāt make. But thereās no use dwelling on it. Just know that when you put your art into the world, people are going to perceive it; sometimes, your views wonāt align with theirs and thatās inevitable. Just donāt change yourself because of it <3
im personally demi romantic myself, but i think it was looking into what demi sexuality was after seeing Kās sexuality, that made me realize/come to that conclusion. it would have taken me a longer time period of uncomfortable confusion if i hadnt come across this if and the representation you put into it. and for that i thank you š

Hello!! Hope youāre doing well after releasing ch. 13, I literally jumped off the walls finding out it had been updated! Everyoneās routes are so incredible!! I just had one question, Iāve been trying to get on to Blaneās rival route, have been arguing with them every chance I get to rack up the rivalry points but for some reason the game keeps locking me out of it (even on a whole new save). Do I have to have 0 romance points with them, and not take their route in ch. 11 (I think)? It just keeps telling me I havenāt met the requirements for his romance route (only 2/8 romance points). Any help would be very appreciated!!
Iām not sure what the confusion is here because the requirements are clearly stated haha. You need the 8 romance points, but you only have 2.
You can usually find these within the solo scenes. There are many that are internal reflections rather than outright flirting, which wouldnāt break the immersion of the rivals route.
I'm usually a lurker but that last personal ask about N gave me courage to send an ask. i appreciate A and N so much you have nooo idea!! I know people usually love drama and whatnot but being queer in an asian conversation country, it's so nice to have routes where the characters just like you and no drama about that <3333 the normal ROs deserve more recognition!! (Especially N my pookie)
I was wondering, will the friendships will be developed? I have no friends irl since coming out and i want to dive deeper into a fantasy of having friends lol I would love to be bff with N in A route or even (somehow) become friends with Blane during N's. I can't stop thinking about my sapphic friend group of weirdos actually linking each other by the end of book 3
First of all, I want to tell you that your āfriendsā are awful for abandoning you after coming out and no one deserves that. Iām sorry. Humans can be quite awful.
But yes! For those who donāt want to choose a romantic route, the platonic route is for developing one friendship on a deeper level. I am young with the idea of allowing you to choose another RO to be a close friend even with a romantic route chosen, but that is a LOT of writing and Iām not sure I want to commit just yet. There will definitely be some teasing about the relationship from other ROs though, which will lead to stronger friendships.

i'm sure you get a ton of asks in your inbox like this but i just wanted to tell you how much i adore blane <33 they're a character very dear to me as a fellow asexual and seeing the positive reception they've received has helped me feel so much better about my own asexuality as well. they're such a beautifully written character (the kiss scene has me giggling and kicking my feet) and i can tell how much love and hard work you've but into them!!
