Itâs been two weeks since Joeyâs birthday, and you still havenât managed to get the full picture of what happened. Well, you remember everything up to the time they brought out the jelly shots. Thatâs when you and Chandler, bored out of your minds, decided to see who could eat the most throughout the party and thatâs when things start to get blurry. You remember sticking your tongue down a couple of peopleâs mouths, someone with a red skirt. But the biggest issue of that night was the fact that you slept with Monica. Yeah, your friend Monica. The one and only. You woke up next to her in her bed the motioning after. Both of you had been pretty drunk â more like wasted â and remembered very little about it. You had gone through your day without mentioning it, but with the promise to go back to the matter once you were alone.
Now, two weeks later, you still havenât found the chance to talk to her about that night. One way or another, sheâs never alone and in the few occasions that you manage to see her, sheâs on her way to work and is always running late, which is as unlike Monica as it can be. Itâs getting unnerving, because youâve been stressing over it for the past two weeks. Trying to find the right words and see if maybe something more can come from that drunken night.Deciding that enough is enough, you ask for Rachel and Phoebeâs help to get her alone once and for all.
Itâs a Thursday night and Monica usually comes back earlier than the other days. Rachel and Phoebe have decided to go see a movie with the others and left you alone in the apartment.
When she enters the apartment expecting everyone chatting on the sofa, sheâs taken aback as there is only you in the living room.
âY/N? What are you doing here on your own?â she asks.
âI was waiting for you...â you tell her.
âMe? Whatâs so important?â
âOh... I think you already know, Mon. You know it very well.â
She tries to deny again but before she can utter another word you speak again.
âIâm not stupid, you know... Itâs kind of hard to ignore the fact that youâve been avoiding me.â
âNo, I havenât.â
âYes, you have. Itâs been two weeks and I havenât managed to have a second with you alone until now... and this thing left hanging there is killing me.â you tell her. âLook, Iâm gonna say what I think. Just listen to me, and then you can go back to avoiding me like Iâm the plague.â
She nods, puts down her keys and bags on the table and comes sit on the sofa.
âIâve been thinking a lot about that night. Well, what I remember of that night. And I liked it. It kind of felt right, you know? So I wouldnât be opposed to the idea of seeing if there could be more between us. Of course only if you want. I think there could be something between us, something great and Iâm willing to risk everything to try this. Just please give me a chance. One date where we can see if we feel the same things while sober.â
âI donât know... Iâm scared weâd ruin our friendship, Y/N. Weâve known each other for years.â she answers while looking at her hands.
âOne dinner, and if it doesnât click, it simply doesnât. Thereâs no need to stress ourselves over it. Weâre both grown ups who can understand that sometimes things donât work out, but I donât want to live with the what ifs. I donât want to be 50 and still think about what would have happened, I donât want to have any regrets. But again, itâs up to you and if you donât feel like giving it a try I wonât blame you at all, nothing will change.â you tell her, taking her hands in yours and gently stroking her palms with your thumbs.Â
Monica seems thoughtful for a moment before looking at you in the eyes and smiling.
âJust one dinnerâ she says and you nod.
âJust one.â you repeat, smiling.
âOkay. Iâll let you know which night I donât have to work next week as soon as I know.â
âGreat!â You say, jumping up from the sofa. âSo... are you hungry? Because Iâm starving and itâs going to be a while before the others come back. Does Chinese takeaway and crappy movies sound like a good way to kill the time?â
âYeah, sounds great!â she answers before adding âIâll get changed and shower real quick.â
âSure, take your time! Iâll order your usual?â you ask and she nods on her way to her bedroom.
Once the door is closed you canât help the silent âYESâ that escapes your mouth. You grab the phone and order the takeaway.Â
