The story about Brandon Weston hit the headlines in the 90s, missing from his small home and believed to be lost within the National Park. Extensive search parties were carried out but with no luck of finding him. Against all odds, Brandon returned by himself, mostly unscathed declaring he had taken himself away from civilization on purpose. A story about him coming face to face with a bear earned his rather on the nose nickname, that's still used today.

Brandon's short-lived fame soon dwindled, and the residents of Lockwood Springs went back to thinking he was an isolated nobody in no time at all. He prefers it that way, though. Brandon doesn't give information about himself easily and actually, it's hard to even find him to strike up a normal conversation. He has always preferred to be alone and nothing changes that.

Some residents of the city know vague aspects of his life, that it was just his mother and him for a number of years and he cared for her until she passed. That the house he lives in still looks just as it did the day she bought it in the 60s, and nursed her husband before his death too.

The most common known fact about Bear is that he's a park ranger, and if he does prowl away from the rural areas of the city, he's mostly seen with the keepers. Blaze Thompson, primarily, who's his only form of best friend.

Bear is quiet, misunderstood and also uncaring and oblivious. He keeps himself tucked away at the side, observing and taking everything in. If he does ever let his hair down, it's at Neon Boots with other members of the m.c who he knows won't judge him. So long as nobody ever asks too personal questions, everything's all good.

Spencer didn’t notice that they weren’t talking. He was thinking about food. Even though he’d just had a gas station hot dog when they filled up the bikes. He wondered what food was in the clubhouse or if dinner was going to be good. Bear waved him over and he was at the ready to see what he needed. He was hoping for a funny story. “For their feet or to eat?” Spence shook his head but stored the knowledge away for Blue River just in case he ever managed to earn enough trust to run the place. “I try not to tell Sof nothin’ she might think we think we’re better than her and I don’t want a Silva mad at me, like, ever.” All of them seemed to be a different level of dangerous except for Lola, she made him laugh. “Huh? Oh, thanks man.” He pulled the cigarette from the pack and lit it. “Do you think there’s food in the clubhouse?” 

Bear answered Spencer first by raising his hand to his mouth to mimic food. “Eating.” he then said, as if he had to think of the word as they continued towards the clubhouse. He never thought of things as complex as who to tell what, what would undermine who so he laughed at Spencer. “They won’t, we’d save them horses.” he chuckled but his friend was right, a Silva being mad at you was an intimidating sight. “They like us.” Bear then said confidently, spotting the clubhouse that was in view. He looked to Spence as he lit the cigarette in his mouth and handed over his zippo. “Sofia always cooks, probably. Maybe Gazpacho.” he shrugged. “Why? What your gut want?”

Blaze was used to having friends that didn’t talk much, between Del and Bear he was just happy to be someone they tolerated being around which was rare for either of them. Blaze felt quite lucky. So whenever he had the time, he drove himself out to Bear’s secluded home by the national park and helped out with things he needed to do. Today was a bike day though. “Man, I still can’t believe you won’t trust Wyatt or Leo with this. It’s just sitting there collecting dust.” Blaze shook his head, looking at the old harley davidson which must be worth a pretty penny these days. “They’d get her up and going again in no time, honest.”

Bear trusted people who would honor silence with him, which was why Blaze was a welcomed face and was permitted beyond the no trespassing signs he had dug into his land boundaries. But trust was a big word and a big meaning to Bear and it didn’t extend much further than he needed it to. He laughed slightly, pulling the dust sheet back over the bike and pointing at the one he used. “If I can’t get it to run, no one can.” he didn’t sound arrogant, just his usual flat tone which stated the things he thought were obvious. “Maybe they could but...” he shrugged because Bear lived as humbly as possible like a snapshot of history in the present day. “Expensive.”

Having Tate, Charlie and Drew with her was…something. Del didn’t know the first thing about looking after themself let alone three dependents. How Millie did it was a mystery, and not one Del wanted to solve. Like usual, Bear just let himself into her home and already broke the number one rule she had. Don’t fucking touch anything. “It was. Get out.” Del demanded quickly, clicking their pale fingers before getting distracted by the point to the corner of the room. They had to squint to see it, scoffing slightly. “If you get out and take a look for me, I’ll give you whiskey.” they then said, already feeling as if this was technically the most they had ever said words to one another.

Bear did heed the warning from Del, but he smiled at her and slowly moved from the coffin. No rush, all the time in the world. No apology either and his hands smoothed over the wood and then he sniffed his finger tips. “Oak?” he asked before a strange laugh came from him, timid but amused. “Someone wanted friends to struggle one last time.” he coughed hoarsely. “Carrying this.” he pointed, his broken up way of speaking always causing confusion for most. He knew what he meant, though. That’s all that mattered. Turning to listen to Del’s offer, Bear looked to the tiny crack and then back to them, shrugging. “Sure.” he agreed quietly, pointing at the corner. “I need to go upstairs.”

Visits from Leo weren’t out of the ordinary, Bear was used to getting some kind of repremand from the enforcer. He had never started a fight in technical terms, but apparently he stared for too long at people and it wasn’t really the...vibe. Whatever the fuck that was. Most of his time was split between the park and the slowly rotting wood he called a home for all of his life, always doing repairs and fixing something. So, Bear didn’t stop his work on the account of Leo arriving. “If this is about those bear traps outside Quinlan’s office, I moved ‘em.” he preempted, turning to look at the enforcer quickly before getting right back to work. “No one even knew they were there. I told you in confidence.”

Seeing a casket in a living room would make anybody ask why it was there. Not Bear. Not only was he used to his somewhat neighbor being strange, he appreciated it and also...didn’t care. He took himself straight to the coffin, climbing in and laying within the fabric comfortably. There could have been a joke or two about it being Del’s back when they were buried, or what they slept in to feel more at home. But he just shuffled himself to get the perfect fit. “This for show?” he asked, quite liking the feel as he stared up at the ceiling and then pointed a grubby finger to one of the corners of the room. “That’ll be a leak if you don’t fix it.” he mentioned the small crack, barely visible at first glance. “Probably the storm.”

They walked through the Silva land for a while in silence, not that Bear minded one bit. He was surveying everything and felt tranquil despite the resting frown on his lips. He had refused to get on his bike, and instead waved Spence over to him as if he had something to talk about. He didn’t, he just wanted to take a more scenic route to the clubhouse. The first word that was uttered between the two friends broke the silence quickly. “Bindweed.” he grunted, pointing to the white flowers dotted through the grass. “Should tell Sofia. Bad for horses.” he added, moving on quickly and getting his cigarettes from a pocket. Silently he took one for himself and then offered them to Spence, flicking his wrist slightly to get his attention. “Here.”
