Hello, Milli here with a sad but hopefully expected announcement. Iâm going to be leaving this blog again, it was enjoyable running it while it lasted but it quickly came to be too much.Â
Thereâs a few reasons why Iâm leaving:
This blog is a lot of work/stress and Iâm very busy with my photography and itâs just going to get worse when I start college in January. We have 70+ messaged in our inbox right now, and in the 4+ months weâve been up and running weâve had over 15k blog hits, this is a very busy blog and as stated previously I really donât have time for it.
Iâm tired of the harassment from some of reptiblr. The anon hate and hateful comments on our posts have become too much.Â
The sock thing where people intentionally misconstrued what we said to smear us was the final straw. Iâd spoken about leaving before but that was the tipping point in this decision.Â
Iâm not going to be deleting the blog, I couldnât even if I wanted to as thereâs 4 other mods, but it might be slowing down.Â
If you want to keep up with me and my beardie Ted you can on my photo and personal tumblr, or on Instagram.
Iâve enjoyed modding this blog, make sure to give your beardie some pats and treats for me.
-Milli
Hereâs an example of the âsock thingâ. Iâm using my beanie to cover Tedâs eyes (all 3 of them) but itâs not covering his nostrils. This lets him sleep soundly while I do my nightly ab workouts and browse tumblr. I remove it once I go to bed myself. -Milli

So, will this blog die then? If it'll die, then will there be an announcement.
There's other admins on this blog so they may keep it up and running, it's up to them though

Iâd like to put together a list of tumblrs that make and reblog posts about the care of a specific species (for instance, a tumblr that focuses on rabbits and rabbit care).
If anyone follows or knows of some good tumblrs along these lines, please reply with the url here.

Ur still great tho and have done a great job educating lots of people
Thank you, it means a lot <3
Milli here: I most likely will be leaving too, Iâm going to give it a little bit to settle and for me to formulate a farewell letter. I donât know whether Iâll add new mods to replace me but as things are I donât think I will.
Hi everyone, Mod Seth here with a very serious (and long) announcement.
Iâm sorry to announce that I wonât be a mod on this blog anymore. Iâm sure that this will lead to some rumors, so Iâll make a couple of things clear.Â
No, I am not leaving because of the âsock incidentâ (where I worded things very poorly and the post blew up on me rather than someone messaging me and asking what my wording meant.) And no, I am not being kicked out. I am leaving because I want to, for several reasons. So you should not under any circumstances send hatemail to people in a misguided attempt to defend me. (Which has already happened, and I donât approve of it. They were always anon so I donât know who to block from this blog but cut it out, seriously.) Nobody specifically is causing this.
You may have noticed that I have already not been answering as many asks as I already have. I have been taking many breaks away from this blog for the same reasons why I am leaving.
I am leaving because of a few reasons:
People are putting me on a pedestal, and I hate it.
I joined this blog because I wanted to help beardies on sand and with improper UVB, simple stuff like that. And because I answered these questions concisely and thoroughly, and provided links to people who say it better than I do, and I was the only mod actually answering asks, people started looking to me like I was an expert. I never wanted to be seen as an expert, I just wanted to help beardies with crappy husbandry.
People keep asking me for medical advice, particularly urgent advice.
I am not a vet. I have 0 qualifications to make a call like that. All I can do is try and guess what might be wrong. But people were taking my guesses as a diagnosis, because again people were seeing me as an expert because I parroted sources. Theyâre not diagnosis, and they never were. And now people seem to have this idea that I am claiming to be an expert and that they can come and ask me all these health questions. I just try my best to answer them but seriously, go see a vet. Especially if you think itâs urgent. Stop asking this blog for vet advice. We are not vets.
People would not leave me alone.
I have a life outside this blog, but people expect me to be glued to the inbox 24/7. People would send me an ask that has been covered a bajillion times already in this blog, and all they would have to do was read a little bit and find an answer. Instead theyâll send multiple asks - the first ask, and then like 3 - 5 different âwhy havenât you answered it yet/answer my ask!â messages. It came to the point where I couldnât enjoy anything like a movie or a video game because every five seconds my phone would go off with an alert.
Pressure from many different sides to stay in one opinion.
I love learning about bearded dragons. I have messaged a few people before who have reblogged our stuff with updated info and thanked them personally for giving it to us. However, any time I would correct information, someone would use it and twist it to say âBDA has no idea what theyâre talking about, never trust anything they say!â It really discouraged learning and changing opinions, and a lot of messages I would get were very rude. It was more conducive to try and âsave faceâ and just not say anything at all. Iâm a person that is trying to make everyone happy, so this kind of pressure was and is extremely stressful to me, especially when it feels like Iâm the only mod trying to keep up with all these people. And another thing...
People treat us like weâre all the same person.
I always sign my posts as âMod Sethâ. Those are all my posts, no other posts are mine. So I would get people yelling at me for something another mod did, or treating our blog like one entity when thereâs 6 (yes, six) other mods.Â
Personal health reasons.
Due to private health reasons, I wonât be able to mod this blog very much longer anyway.
Basically, Iâm not an expert, I never was an expert, but people keep treating me like I am one and holding me to unrealistic expectations. I felt confident that I could help beardies when I first came on, by correcting bad husbandry. But the blog really got away from me very quickly as more people asked more complicated things. It all became very overwhelming and I cannot keep up with it anymore and I donât want to keep up with it anymore, I want to be seen as a person trying to learn more about reptiles every day again and not this caricature of me that everyone seems to have where I claim to be an expert vet and my knowledge is flawless. I never claimed this and Iâm really tired of people putting words in my mouth over it.
I wanna thank everyone whoâs been kind and helpful.Â
I wanna thank everyone who has given me updated information and new sources and correcting our posts when needed, especially those who have messaged with me directly.Â
And I wanna thank the blog admin for taking me on in the beginning.
I hope that I have managed to help a lot of beardies in my time here, that is the only thing that ever mattered to me in the end.
-Mod Seth
A few days ago my beardie passed away because he ate a firefly and I just wanted to let anyone who might be a first time bearded dragon owner a heads up if they didn't already know because by the time I found out it was too late. I hope I helped some
Iâm so sorry you lost him⌠this can be something a lot of new owners donât think of, not because theyâre bad owners but because it just doesnât occur that the pretty little bugs that we loved as children might be poisonous to our pets
Iâm really sorry and I do hope this ask lets some people know that lightning bugs are indeed EXTREMELY poisonous to beardies. even one of them can kill an adult beardie. if your beardie eats one itâs good to keep activated charcoal on hand to administer in case of an accident and then rush straight to the vet. if you donât have charcoal just go to the vet immediately
To emphasize, go to the vet NOW. Itâs not a âwait and seeâ sort of situation. One firefly can kill an adult beardie in less than an hour.

AWW he smoll and happy
Thank you for the advice! the 2 dragons aren't mine but I pasted the information alone to their owners. They are the pets of children... it would be horrible to see your critters eat one another. 0.0 THANK YOU!!
Youâre welcome! I hope they get separated by the owners⌠Thank you for spreading the knowledge to the owners, we are happy to help.

Bearded dragons: Charizard and Rango
Hi there,  please donât cohab beardies! theyâre not social animals, they donât want friends and theyâre likely to fight. These fights can cause injury or death to the beardie. Even females and sibling beardies will fight and itâs better for their health to separate them now as opposed to waiting until there is an incident. You can read more about the dangers of cohabbing here  You can get cheap tanks and supplies on craigslist, all they need is to be sanitized
Modifications made to accommodate my growing girl; a wider basking ledge up top and bigger rocks to hide under. Caitlyn loves her new ledge! All this was done with styrofoam, school glue, spackle, water based paint and ModPodge non toxic sealant. đđť #beardeddragon #diypets #reptilesofinstagram
Hi there, coil UVBs are dangerous to beardies. You should really toss that and buy a Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 fluorescent tube as soon as possible. It should be mounted inside the tank, within 6âł of the basking spot. Hereâs our guide on how to do that!
This is Oberyn, he is a 1 year old bearded dragon with a beautiful spirit, he owns a huge part of my heart. I found out back in July that he had parasites, the vet did not tell us he had parasites until I asked them what his stool results were so he's had parasites for a good while. The vet gave...
GUYS PLEASE SPREAD THIS AROUND. OBERYN ISNâT SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF RECOVERY FROM THE PARASITE MEDICINE AND I FEAR HE MAY STILL HAVE THEM. I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET WHILE IâM LOOKING FOR A JOB. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THIS EVERYWHERE.
Hey all! A friend recently mentioned to me that my baby Yoshi has a weird shaped mouth/snout, and I honestly never noticed that she was different because sheâs my first and only reptile, and I never really compared her to others! I did noticed that she had a bit of an underbite. But Sheâs been that way since I got her when she was a baby, sheâs now almost 4, and thatâs just the way she grew. I was wondering if anyone knew why(if thereâs a reason??) Sheâs always had the proper lighting, food, etc. I was just curious if there was a cause of this! Thanks in advance! đđ
Under bites are often a result of MBD. Itâs possibly she didnât receive enough calcium or D3 before you got her. It could also just be a birth defect.
Oh, Okay! Thanks for the help! âşď¸ I shouldnât be concerned about it though⌠right?? Sheâs happy(most of the time haha) and healthy! Sheâs always ate just fine, and doesnât seem to have any breathing problems or anything!
I wouldnât be worried about as long as sheâs doing good now!
I canât quite tell from the photos but is that a loose substrate sheâs housed on?
Yes, Itâs what Iâve used for the last 3 ½ years, and what I was told to use when I got her. I know now that I was miseducated, as youâre not supposed to use loose. I wasnât sure if I should change it now, considering itâs all sheâs ever had, and she enjoys laying on the sand.
I'd definitely change it when possible!
