Gods the tone in his voice made her want to cave, made her want to give in and go limp as he held her there. The hand in her hair made her eyes fall closed, and that, for a moment, helped her fight of the attack. Her knees were shaking. Her world was tunneling out.

Stay calm. It’s okay.

She forced herself to take a few deep breaths. He kept saying he could make the pain go away, but could he reverse the other effects?

That might even be worth it. The fevers that kept her up at night, the hallucinations that left her weeping, the seizures that frightened her more than he did…

He poked her nose, and her eyes opened again, a mildly affronted look replacing her pained one.

“Won’t be alone…” She echoed.

Of course not. Loz and Yazoo will probably be there, too. They come as a set.

Wait…

So do we.

Realization hit her like a winter shower, and she gasped, eyes going wide.

“The girls-!!”

Mistake

Pain crippled her like a shot to the knees, and she cried out, the joints giving out and forcing her to fall forward onto him, hands clenching tightly at the black leather for support. Her whole world swam. She couldn’t tell which way was up and which way was down.  All she knew was that he was the only thing keeping her from falling.

With an almost uninterested expression, he watched as she slipped into something like a seizure. Average side effect of the stigma. But he did stop her before she hit the ground, gathering the crumpled girl into his arms. He had surprising strength for being the smallest of the trio. 

"Oops. None of that dear." He lifted her up more, supporting her body with his and moving her out of the small structure and towards his own transportation that lay not far from the entrance of said domicile.

Pay little mind to her chocobo, pecking away at limpid grass, he approached the bike and moved her into position on it, sliding on after her. 

"You may want to sit up. It wouldn't do to fall off." He chided, kicking the starting pedal.

A shiver sparked up her spine as he spoke, and she had to remind herself that breathing, even when he was in such close quarters, was necessary for life. She exhaled sharply and sucked in another breath when his hand came into contact with her hair.

She reflexively moved a foot back to escape the touch on her knees.

“N-no!” the word was barely a whisper.

“D-don’t touch it….” She amended, recoiling away from him as much as she could without actually, actively pulling away.

How could he possibly know? She was wearing a long skirt and everything!

….Well….

He of all people would know when someone had Geostigma, wouldn’t he? As it was, her knees were throbbing from the adrenaline rushing through her system. Fear always made it worse. She could feel the beginnings of a potential attack tugging at the back of her mind.

No. Calm down. Breathe. Remember to breathe. It’s okay. He needs you.

Wait.

Confused, but at least still breathing,  Selene whined quietly.

"It hurts so badly does it not? I bet it does. Not that I would know...I cannot feel it. But you can. And I do so dearly want to take that away from you. Spare you the pain, free you from it..." His hand in her hair didn't move, he only smoothed it back from her face, noting the pain in her face.

"Now...no more talking. I will take you to where you are needed most...and." He smiled, the hand that pressed to her Geostigma moving to bop her on the nose lightly. "Don't worry...."

"You won't be alone."

“Well… yeah, that…” She gave a lame shrug, and attempted to ignore the brief look of irritation on his face.

She tried to back up, but he knocked the item from her hand, leaving the now priceless liquid inside to spill across the floor as the bottle containing it shattered. She glanced back for it briefly, opening her mouth to protest before he grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer.

Her jaw snapped shut with an audible click, and her eyes widened.

WOAH WOAH GET THE FUCK OUT MY BUBBLE!!

Jerking away would prove ineffective, and with his hand so very near to already painful parts of her, even if they were bandaged beneath her skirt, she didn’t want to do something that would give him cause to hurt her.

She’d knocked her knees on several things since contracting the illness, and every time, she’d felt like someone had taken a shotgun to them, point-blank. She couldn’t begin to imagine what it would feel like if someone intentionally brought pain to that area, especially someone as strong as Kadaj was.

Brow furrowed and lips tightly pursed, she let out a quaking breath through her nose.

"You would like that would you not...? Freedom from the pain that plague is ravaging on your body? I want to help you, beautiful Selene...All you need to do..is come with me...come to Brother. He needs you. Do that...and I can help you..."

His hand holding hers, moved up to displace a curl of dark hair behind her ear, the other reaching, stretching to press the lightest of touches against her infected knees.

"If you do not..then I can make it...much...much...worse."

“Well since ShinRa, you know… stopped making everything, it’s become really scarce, and even the best-stocked item shops sold out during Meteorfall.” She made no motion to take his hand for help up, instead carefully placing a hand on her thigh for support, and rising to her feet herself.

Her head was still aching dully, but she hadn’t smacked it hard enough to cause any lasting damage.

“…And don’t worry about it. I’m not hurt, really.” What was with that niceness before? What the hell? Wasn’t he supposed to be the crazy one? The ringleader of the trouble trio? She reached for the back of her head to make sure she didn’t have that fat of a goose egg , tenderly prodding the spot where she’d connected with the underside of the table.

Could’ve been worse. I could have smacked my knee.

Selene watched him warily, now that she was on her feet, hands clasped around the familiar—and prized—bottle of Hyper that she had been looking for.

His hand fell back to his side, a flinch of irritation danced across his face. "Before they stopped siphoning the Planet, you mean." He spoke, casting a glance around the house they stood in.

"Nevermind all that. It seems that you have gotten what you have come for. A Hyper mm?" And he would get what he came for, certainly. She could run, but he would stop her before she hit the doorway, it helped that he was so fast.

"Oh you don't need that..." He moved forward, closing the space between them and reaching out to knock the Hyper from her hands and take one of them in his own, pulling her close. "Not when I can just...reach out..." Lowering his free hand down towards her knees, he smiled lightly, invading her space the more he spoke.

"And take...all of your pain...away...."

Holy hell. Selene jumped and slammed her head on the table she had been checking under, hard enough to make her world spin for a moment and her head throb angrily.

She sat down quickly on the wooden floor, clasping both hands behind her head and hissing in a breath, only to swear under it moments later.

“Ifrit’s asscrack, Shiva’s icy ass tits-!!” She snarled before blinking one eye open to observe who had scared the living daylights out of her, and who she needed to dress down for sneaking up on her.

Eyes she was intimately familiar with.

“Uh….” Well, right now I’d want my bird, actually, pretty sure a S-rank former racer can give you and your bike a good run for your money and cross terrain you can’t

“… Yeah, I’m looking for medicine.” Well, that wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either, “Potions, other cures, the like. People leave them behind all the time.”

She turned to continue looking, doing her level best to ignore the throbbing in her head and the thundering of her heart in her chest.

This was bad. This was dangerous and bad. She didn’t want to be caught alone somewhere so far off the map with him.  She very pointedly went back to sorting through the scattered items on the floor.

Play it cool and maybe he’ll lose interest and go away. Please God lose interest and go away….

"Medicine. Oh I see." He approached her at a leisurely pace and reached his hand out to her, offering to help her to her feet.

"Forgive me for startling you, I was fairly sure that you would be able to hear me coming...I suppose I was wrong." His tone was fairly mild, he was an old hand at playing nice. Well...when he wanted to be nice that was, which was not often but the time called for niceties.

"Is there no where else to find such remedies?" He asked. "I am rather certain there are stores and the like that sell such things...why the need to scourage for them, mm?"

Geostigma was some of the worst pain she had ever been in. She had taken a bad fall into a pool of dark water and blacked out. She woke up with the black bruising on both of her knees.

She had taken to wearing skirts recently, to avoid having the fabric brush over the sensitive skin, even when they were bandaged.

It took a physical toll on her as well as an emotional one, and she knew that’s what the illness was geared to do. If she gave up, if she let the doubts and pain and despair grip her, the Stigma would kill her.

Still, it was hard to remain positive in the throes of a fever or hallucination, or even the seizures that came with bad attacks.

Thankfully, hiding the Stigma on knees was easier than hiding it on other parts of her body.

Stepping from her saddle (as she preferred to run her errands on the very eco-friendly back of a Chocobo) she patted the yellow bird on the neck and left it to graze as she poked about the small abandoned town for Hypers. The Lifestream had ripped through it almost two years prior, and had forced people to leave it, along with all their possessions.

Scavenging wasn’t her style, but Hypers to make medicine from were becoming scarcer and scarcer.

It was the second time of his birth. Second time was the charm was it not?

"Or is it third time's the charm?" Musing out loud he shrugged, cracking a grin to the overcast sky. Already, his brothers had taken their orders from him and departed, making their way to their predetermined targets.

Easy enough right? Of course right. For him especially so.

Following the orders set to him from big brother beyond the veil, he was to locate the health of their eldest sibling. Despite the fact that said attribute had taken to being primarily mobile, it was nothing to find her. Not many people still used chocobos to travel, yes they were fast and reliable but you didn't have to let a motorcycle rest.

So he had an advantage if he needed to chase her down. Though thankfully this was not the case. She was rummaging through abandoned houses in a small, barely remembered town on the main continent.

Easy pickings really. On both of their cases.

"Lose something?"

It’s really hard to say. He is cruel, he is controlling and manipulative and everything a girl should stay away from, and that I would stay away from, if I could for more than a few minutes.Trying to run away or resist usually… doesn’t end well.

There are… moments… where I think I can see beyond the craziness, the drive to complete the Reunion, and see someone who hates living in the shadow of someone else’s greatness, someone who loathes only being here for a single purpose, and for that, I pity him.

I’d pitty him more if he could do it without being a complete and total jackwaggon, let me tell you.

He has this really weird fascination with me and my friends, to get back to the question, and while he’s just as creepy in general towards them, he’s most fascinated with me, which doesn’t make a lick of sense to me. He’s also super tactile and I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to make romantic advances for some reason or another. I don’t think I could even begin to try to see things from his perspective or get into his head. I don’t know what’s going on up there.

Not sure I want to know.

Anywho, the short version of this answer is ‘I have no fucking clue.’ I don’t consider him a friend by any stretch of the imagination, but I don’t exactly consider him an enemy, either.”
