Quarantine time healthy food alternative - Daal(beans) with anti-inflammatory Indian/Pakistani spices
Student quick fix food
recipe: good for 2~3 meals
1 cup of 2/3 red lentils ,1/3 barely and mung beans (this ratio for lighter consistency)
1 tbs ghee (or butter) MUST!
1 tsp some Black sesame (not necessary)
half packet of Broccoli
1 tsp Cumin seeds
Spices: (Warning: if not used to spices change 1 tsp to 1/2 tsp, you can always add more spices later)
2/3 of knor beef soup(MUST)
1 tsp of turmeric
1 tsp of red chilli power (less hot paparika)
1 tsp of curry powder
salt to taste
Process:
Dump the beans in a bigger pot, and rinse it out.
Put twice the amount of water of the beans( the beans will suck the water)
Throw the spices and the beef cube in the pot, and the ghee/butter. You can add the cumin and sesame now or later.
Takes about a 50 min on low heat. I just wait till everything is soft. Start checking it after 30 mins to make sure there is still water...
Mix it on and off, so the texture can become thick by breaking the lentils.
Turn off the fire and add diced broccoli, at the Very end. The crunchy texture taste good in my opinion.
I thought this would be a healthy and easy recipe for students. It tastes good, and ingredients are very affordable. You can customize it anyway you want with the beans you use. I sometimes through in a bit of split yellow beans and red kidney beans.
Tell me how it goes!
