Songs for the Apocalypse

Tried to imagine how Bill’s playlist (or better a mixtape he recorded for himself) might’ve look like in 1996.

Notes:

Some songs matter for both the music and the lyrics, others are here because they tied to some memories, or simply because they were new around 96.

The order matters. Especially the last track - it’s meant to stand out, particularly in contrast with the first one's energy. The shifts in mood between songs matter too.

"Wind of Change" doesn't have here its original sense. In 91 it could feel hopeful, but by 96 it felt very naive and maybe bittersweet.

Two tracks stick out from the rest, both in tone and in Bill's overall taste. They’re connected to Fleur. Not because they reflect her(they don’t, at all), but because they were everywhere around ’95 and got stuck in memories of a few good dates with her like a virus.

Why 1996? For Bill,it’s the last year before things really start going to hell. Sirius’s death is a blow, but the world is still holding together. In 97, Dumbledore dies - and only after that everything spirals fast. I suppose that for the next year or two, music wouldn’t have been much of a priority for Bill. Earlier years feel less emotionally dense. But here is a tension, anger, and creeping exhaustion, but still a bit of space left for something other than pure angst.

Well, I’ve been thinking about Bill Weasley’s patronus for a while

I’ve seen different theories (lions, swan, fox, etc), but I feel like a crow suits him

Can’t explain it, actually. Crows are intelligent, social, active, loyal, funny and creates strong couples, I suppose. And, unlike ravens, they don’t have an aura of strong mysticism and gloom (I feel Bill is more down-to-earth, though still smart and somewhat mysterious)

But I’d like to read your opinion about his patronus
