kingnathaniel:
there was so much to do. battle plans, tasks to hand out, meetings to make, people to keep safe… the king of bearoria had understood war meant a busy man but he’d never quite anticipated just how busy. as the lanterns that surrounded the inside of the tent faded in and out, nathaniel sat at a small table with his hand on his face. though there were many people in his court he could confide with about his plans, he chose to carry the burden himself. he felt as if it was easier to do all the harder tasks and let those around him have a lessened weight on their shoulders. when someone had strolled into his tent, though not too deep into though, he paid no attention. he had assumed it was someone looking for viola or even just checking in on him, but when they spoke, it was then he glanced up at the familiar voice. “ orion! ” the man called, standing as he shouted. his tone was light, as always, and his expression softer. “ i… i was just finishing… will you stay? ”
although orion had his own burdens to carry, his main concern the entire week was how nate was doing. he had left him alone for the most part, had tried to let him do his own thing, but no matter how aloof orion seemed on the outside, on the inside he was worrying. he cleared his throat as the king spoke. “o-okay,” he said, remaining awkwardly by the tent entrance. the two of them hadn’t had a moment alone together since before the attack when orion was given that beautiful present. “how are you?” he asked, immediately regretting speaking. “that was a...dumb question, i’m sorry.” with his last words, he pushed his hair back and remained in his sot awkwardly.
