I can't believe I actually hit 500 followers 🥺I haven't had that many people's eyes on my art in a very long time, I had deleted my original account back when I was a teen and basically never rebuilt since then.

To welcome all the new faces I did want to point out that I do have a webcomic that I work on with my best friend that is like basically my entire life! (I know that might sound crazy considering my current obsession but I swear it is true)

You can read it on either Webtoons or Tapas and we update every Thursday at 2pm EST!

(We're only like 12 away from 100 followers on Webtoons so like if you wanted to help us get there that would be really cool)

heres the thing. i enjoy well done heavy subject matter, you can look at my track record of interests as evidence for that, but i do think writers who wont shut up about how complicated and controversial they are for including ~dark themes~ in their writing need to a christmas carol style be forced to sit down and watch all 4 seasons of 13 reasons why to see what happens if you try to incorporate a bunch of heavy stuff in your work with 0 research or regard for people affected

slight clarification: people in the tags are saying "yea there needs to be levity between heavy moments for a story to be effective", which is also very true! but not what this post is about. this post is about how if you write about abuse and murder and oppression but you dont actually know what youre talking about or have a purpose for including it beside shock value and proving how mature you are your work will read like it was written by a twelve year old

You have to let people love you. You have to let people get to know you. You have to let people help you. Being so completely selfless that you try to erase yourself off the face of the planet and never ask for anything and reject everybody's offers of support makes you very hard to love! Unfortunately. Emptying yourself out of everything that makes you, you is not actually what your loved ones want from you, generally. They want to make you happy! the trick about getting invested and confident in ur own concepts is to surround urself with other likeminded artists who are down to earth. i know nowadays especially people think "indie" and they think undertale or glitch pilots and they have paved the way for great things but i mean like. engage with your friends comics theyve been posting to an audience of 20-30 people. The people who are genuinely at your level with you. Who are working on their projects on the side because they still have a full time job to attend to. who go on long hiatuses because theyre in college and are crunching for tests at the moment.

maybe one day youll have all the resources you want to create your stories exactly how you imagine it at the speed you want it to be done, but until you get there you'll find so many people working with the same resources and available time that you have, and its about that network of small artists being able to support each other that can light a spark that you thought you needed an audience of hundreds to light.
