Having our art shown on the news was an amazing experience! I'm so glad that our project received local coverage!!

Hanging up our signs during the Salinas Chinatown Block Party was a fantastic experience! Even though due to technical difficulties, I lost over half of the video and photos I took, I still was able to capture and document quite a large portion of the Block Party! I'm looking forward to going through the 150+ pictures I took today and uploading the best ones to Instagram,Facebook &Tumblr!!

I created a GoFundMe page in the hopes that random individuals could help us raise $500 that we would then spend on blankets and other useful supplies that we would then distribute to the homeless in the Salinas Chinatown area during the annual blockparty. I know it is not likely to succeed, but if we were able to raise the money to provide supplies to the homeless in that area, I know that they would greatly appreciate it if the next couple winter months.

Learning about "Chinatown" in downtown Salinas has been an eye-opening experience. They have a rich history and deserve to be treated the same as the other communities in Salinas. Will roads that are not just one way help increase the flow of traffic and provide new business opportunities in this isolated location? What service's can we offer as artists to help bring this forgotten community back to it's once thriving condition?

It was AMAZING to see that 1 of the Immigration Reform, Art Intervention pieces still remains up 3 WEEKS LATER! It looked weathered and had slid down the tree branch out of ideal placement, but it was still very visible from the sidewalk! Why did this one remain up while the others were taken down? Did it have to do with placement of the picture or more to do with subject matter? This is the only piece that portrayed several different races reaching for a better future, some of those arms are white and it says "Europe" in the background.. Does the community of Carmel approve of art showing the plight of Europeans but find artwork depicting other races struggle an "eye sore" worthy of being torn down? This was placed on a street that receives much less foot traffic than the other pieces, which were placed in front of the Library, Rolex store & Newspaper stand, but it still raises many questions..

I enjoyed this project immensely and it really made me consider where I place my art in the future. It was a beautiful contrast to choose Immigration Reform as our project’s theme and then choosing the affluent communities of Carmel Valley and Pacific Grove as our canvas. It was extremely exciting/nerve-wracking to physically wire this art to trees/objects in the public sphere and I’m not sure if I would have felt as anxious I did (sweaty hands & elevated heart rate) if we had chosen a less controversial topic. We tried to make this project interactive by writing thought provoking questions with chalk on the surrounding pavement, leaving chalk for spectators to write their own responses, and leaving a hashtag so they could take a picture & post their own response/feelings about the art to the Instagram account we created for our project. It was a very rewarding experience figuring out how to tastefully tell another person’s story through art.

It was great to see all the different ways people performed an intervention with art. There really is no limit to what art can be and how you can intervene in people's lives. I really like this concept and will definitely use this type of public showing for my art in the future.
