I've been running this blog - first with my bestie then on my own - since 2012 and thanks to it I've improved my English, met incredible people, complained a lot, but also learnt a lot.

But I have lost my momentum here, and the passion to blog about EH has faded after all these years. Things is real life are changing now and I feel I've finished my Tumblr journey.

I want to sincerely thank every follower and ocasional reader, everyone that sometime left a like or a comment or even sent an anon, for making my experience here an overall beautiful one. Eskerrik asko bihotzetik🧡.

Many visitors are often surprised by how many palm trees we have in Euskadi. A few years ago I was in a bus from Bilbo to Donostia and an English couple was seated just behind me commenting how they didn't like these random palm trees and wondered why they were preferred over local trees.

Because they were once a symbol of status. Mainly during the 19th and early 20th century, Basque people that went to America, became rich, and went back to EH brought a baby palm tree (or seed) to plant it near their house: this functioned as a souvenir from the journey but also showed they were wealthy now. So everybody wanted a palm tree!!

They may look out of place in EH, it's true, but at least now you know where the palm trees frenzy comes from!
