All I can do is follow my instincts, because I’ll never please everyone.
Emma Watson for Elle Magazine (2014)
Feminism is not here to dictate to you. It’s not prescriptive, it’s not dogmatic. All we are here to do is give you a choice. If you want to run for Prime Minister, you can. If you don’t, that’s wonderful, too. Shave your armpits, don’t shave them, wear flats one day, heels the next.

‘’But it’s a journey and the sad thing is you only learn from experience, so as much as someone can tell you things, you have to go out there and make your own mistakes in order to learn.’’
Emma Watson by Boo George for Teen Vogue, August 2013.
Becoming yourself is really hard and confusing, and it’s a process. It’s often not cool to be the person who put themselves out there. As much as someone can tell you things, you have to go out there and make your own mistakes in order to learn. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid. It’s not the absence of fear, it’s overcoming it. Sometimes you’ve got to blast through and have faith.

I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do a photo-shoot, people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me.
