It's a beautiful thing

There’s this quote I've seen on social media for some time now. It goes something like “be the person you needed when you were younger.” I use to feel like this resonated with me, but as I sit here and really dwell in the person I am today, all I can think about is how much I need my younger self. She was shy, but bold when she needed to be. She was smart, and so aware of it. She was funny. She knew who she was and she stood tall in it. And here I am, reaching out for her. To those who understand where I’m coming from, be the person you were before you were silenced by fear.

One of the worst things I’ve done was change myself to please other people. I use to be so afraid of rejection that I would mold myself to fit the desires of others. I became so lost, and so exhausted. I was unrecognizable, to others and to myself. As cliche as it may sound, find who you are and be only that. Don’t carry the burden of pleasing everyone, because it is an impossible task. Let it go and just be yourself. I swear it’s the most freeing feeling.

Dear Self

It’s self-sabotage, you know? When you allow yourself to get into something that’s over before it begins. When you allow yourself to accept far less than what you deserve. Think about why you do it. Why does the real thing scare you, meanwhile the lesser gets your attention? Is it because you know the outcome? You can control it? Time it? Maybe uncertainty scares you, but think about how tiring it’s been. How exhausting, to put so much energy into something so toxic. How exhausting to know exactly what you want but still willingly settle for less. How saddening, to lie to yourself like that, to tell yourself your not valuable enough, to put yourself through it, Think about why you do it. It’s self-sabotage.

Please don’t settle for less because your tired of waiting. Your reality will be so unfulfilling compared to your potential. Just keep letting life prepare you for what you truly deserve. You’ll get there.

Falling

I hadn't realized how I associated fear with love until this very moment.

Yes I loved him, and I could love him forever.

But I've never denied my ability to stay, I've denied my ability to be kept.

My love was unconditional, this is something I knew to be true.

But with his love there lied uncertainty.

There was nothing to give me the complete satisfaction

that his love would never come to an end.

I've always expected an expiration date with a man's love,

I've never seen it as something that could be real and unconditional,

at least towards me.

So whenever I felt love, I felt fear.

But in this moment, I look into his eyes and I hesitate.

Any other time I would have ran,

I would have ran scared and I would have ran fast

But in this moment I hesitated, I wasted more time than usual,

I allowed myself to actually embrace the fear, to sit in it, and let me tell you,

it was scary as hell.

But there was something in those eyes I'd never seen
