A few details about Rhink’s childhood that I find so sweet
1. Link hated the idea of going over to people’s houses but practically lived with the Mclaughlins
2. Rhett described himself as an extroverted child (who invited himself to sleepovers with kids he barely knew) yet when Link said he didn’t wanna go to summer camp anymore, Rhett decided he couldn’t go either even though he enjoyed it so much and wanted to go back.
3. Rhett’s dad was immediately fired from his job as commentator for the soccer games because he made it all about Link and would even ask them to put him in.
4. Rhett said he attended all of Link’s soccer games.
5. Link hated that he had to wait 2 hours for Rhett to get done with basketball practice so they could hangout.
6. Rhett’s brother would purposely tease him in front of Link because he knew that made him angry.
7. The first punch Rhett ever threw was at a big kid who was making fun of Link. The fact that the kid wasn’t physically attacking Link, just picking on him makes Rhett’s reaction even sweeter.
8. When Link jumped into the river (a river they’ve never swam in before) and was completely submerged and looked like he was struggling to swim, Rhett saw this and decided to jump in right along with him.
9. They loved each other so much and so deeply that a verbal commitment to walk through life together wasn’t enough; that commitment had to be written and sealed with blood.
10. When it seemed like Rhett might go off to play basketball, both Rhett and Link were worried about Link.
11. Rhett factored Link in his decision to turn down an opportunity to play at the college level.
12. They bought matching shirts and would sometimes purposely wear them to school together.
13. The “you date me you date him” vibes of their grade school relationships.
There’s obviously more but I’m new and still catching up to the beauty of this friendship.
