Yesterday's story :)

So one of my friends and coworkers (he’s a senior in college) knows that I have a hearing loss and in order to graduate he is taking an American Sign Language class. He asked me if I would be willing to help him. Obviously I said of course! Yesterday I was at the rink (where we both work) and he greeted me in sign language and he was so happy when he did it right. Then i went to talk and he told me no if you know I dont know the sign (he’s only been in the class one day he only knows the basics) then fingerspell it. I am so excited for when he becomes more advanced and him and I can have sign conversations.

He was asking me about sign names because his professor was talking about different parts of the Deaf culture and he goes “Kaylee since you’re a part of the Deaf culture could you give me a sign name?” So I figured since he calls me K-dog his sign name would be J-dog and he loved it.

This is too cute of a story not to share! I am so thankful for all of my Deaf and HOH friends and all the different sign names I have been given.

Girls’ Night In

So, I got this idea to host a Girls’ Night In for my nieces and my friends with young daughters (ages 4-preteen). I was trying to think of a fun activity we could do! 

My nieces have gotten their first “beauty” kits, consisting of hair elastics, hair brushes, nail polish, and lip gloss. I was thinking of getting them some inexpensive, good quality eye shadows to go with them, along with something for each of the girls that is unique.

I also planned on making either cookies or brownies (from a mix, because I am terrible at baking anything other than pies) and having different snacks. I also started compiling a list of age appropriate movies.

What are some suggestions as to what else I could serve and activities I could do??
