How do u tell if you have hearing loss
Most people just have tests done. Ive never known a life with hearing so I dont know what its like to lose hearing. Maybe some of my followers can help out??
That deaf/HoH fell when your having dinner most of your family and they all sound like gibberish
Too true. I mean my family doesn't always understand that they cant all talk at once.
When can you start giving people name signs ?
Its not like theres a set amount of time you have to be a part of the community to do so. It's all based on how close you are with the person and stuff like that. It's not really an amount of time.
What are your thoughts on a cochlear implant
I believe that if somone has a cochlear implants then that was their decision. I know they're not a cure all but they do help the person's hearing and if they want that opportunity then I say go for it.
If I were to message you would it be okay
Yes definitely!!!
Are there any good apps where if you get a txt or a call it flashes
There is usually something in your settings for that but Im not sure about apps for it
I'm hoh, with a mild hearing loss, and I really want to be more involved deaf culture but can't find any other deaf/hoh people, but I've been learning and lately elyong on asl(at school in class) for two years. Am I able to give name signs?
Yeah definitely. I mean you should probably only do it with people you know and stuff like that but you could also reach out to people on tumblr to meet more hoh/deaf people to become more involved!
Hi I recently found out that Im HoH and I want to tell my friends but i I dont know how I'm afraid of how they will react can someone please give me some advice
I would just tell them that you recently found out. If they are your true friends they will still be your friends after they find out. Im not saying let it define who you are but it is a part of you now. They might be confused, shocked have questions etc. But if they really care about you they will still be there for you. Make sure to let them know it doesn't change who you are you're still going to be yourself but it could change somethings as a personal preference. For example- I have my friends walk on a certain side of me so I can hear them, or if we're in a crowded place I always have someone stay with me so that way if I miss something said they can repeat it. Does that make sense?
Hi I'm HoH and I'm wondering if I'm apart of the deaf community or not
Absolutely! Anyone with a hearing loss is considered a part of the Deaf Community. We are a group of people who all have one thing in common and we can all relate to each other. Your hearing loss does not have to identify who you are but it does make you a part of a pretty awesome group of people!
Why do people do d/deaf sometimes I just want to know what the d stands for
To be completely honest I am not sure...
Hi I've been deaf since I was 2 and I've never herd of HoH can someone please explain it to me
It is basically when you still have some of your hearing but not all of it.
Congratulations to Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd, the new Dancing with the Stars champions!
Hi! I am a SODA who started learning ASL 7 weeks ago. I grew up around ASL because my brother (Deaf) and mom (hearing) are both fluent and very involved in the Deaf community, but I never learned myself (why? I don't know.) Anyways, I was wondering if you know of any place online where family members of deaf/HOH people connect? Looking for other people who share my experience, are learning sign, etc. I'm having a lot of guilt now for never learning and am looking for someone to talk to :)
I unfortunately dont know of any places... I wish I could be of more help. Im sure if you do some looking around on tumblr you can find people. And if any of my followers know of anyone they can let you know too
Why accessibility is important? [x]
I really want to teach my dad ASL (he's always had bad hearing and recently started using hearing aids). He's convinced he won't be able to though, because of how old he is (55).
It will be a lot harder for your dad to learn but as long as he keeps working at it and truly wants to learn he'll be able to. He's also going to need support because he's going to be learning a new language... that can get frustrating. If he really wants to learn and is willing to put in the time he'll be able to.
oral-raised Deafie problems: sign language is not your first language so you constantly worry if it’s good enough
Or you are bared from learning from the deaf community later on because you were raised oral and “have no need to learn sign”.
…friend
who said that to you i will bite them
I’m gonna fight whoever told you that wtf not okay
