i’ve been watching old episodes of brooklyn 99 and realized that technically archie has the same position as the vulture so i’m cracking myself up imagining him being the vulture even though they’re absolutely nothing like each other

It’s looking like the medical stuff is over. God I hope it’s over. It was BAD. Nothing went according to keikaku.
Here’s the kicker: One side effect of the medical stuff is MEMORY LOSS, and I got hit with that way harder than most people do.
I have almost no memory of this past summer. And my memory BEFORE that is sketchy -- it’s not GONE but I need to be reminded of a lot of things before they come back to me.
I’ve started going through messages and old posts to start to piece together important info like “who are these people I was playing with?” and “what were our threads about?” and it’s starting to come back, but it’s gonna take a minute. So just like, bear with me and be nice about it if I get stuff wrong, okay? Thanks!

Archie perched on the edge of the armchair, unable to relax enough to settle back into the chair. He looked around, the lavish surroundings of the office doing nothing to make him feel more welcome here. He absolutely did not want to be here, but the new chief of police wasn’t willing to overlook his failed psych eval anymore, so it was this or lose his job.
“Sorry,” he said, finally looking at the man seated across from him, “I’m just not really comfortable with the whole therapy thing since, you know, my last psychiatrist turned out to be a serial killer.” He laughed nervously. “But I guess it’s not like that could happen twice.”
Susan, is there a reason you dye your hair?
"Because I don't think I'm pretty so I try to make up for it by being striking."
"Because I want people to know right away that I'm not the 'stable' 'professional' kind of person you can settle down with."
"Because my adolescence was destroyed by abuse and trauma so I'm living out now what I couldn't then."
"Because it looks cool, why does there have to be a deep reason for everything?"
Archie, did you always want to be a detective?
"Not always. I mean, when I was five I wanted to be an astronaut. Or a dinosaur. In high school, taking one film class and working at the video store made me think I would go into film -- not, like, acting, like something behind the camera, or even just academic film studies. But after my mom died, that kind of changed my whole outlook, that's when I decided I had to go into law enforcement, and it kind of drove everything after that. There was never really any doubt after that."

“No, no, I don’t – mind,” Susan rushed to reassure her, while getting increasingly uncertain about how well this was going to work out. It was only a matter of time before she ruined any social situation with another woman – men were easier, but only because when things got awkward she could always offer them a blowjob. “No, not boring at all.” Oh, Max was – leaning in closer. That was fine, Susan told herself, there was no reason it should be making her cheeks hot, it was just totally fine.
She balked at being asked to tell her own story. Too much of it was tragic as fuck. But at least she could start with the basics. “Yeah, I grew up here. Then I fucked off to Eugene for college and came back here to work for the paper.” She shrugged. “And that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing since. Sometimes I get to write crime stories that put me in mortal peril, other times I get to write about open mic nights that – actually, they also put me in mortal peril, if I hear Wonderwall one more time I think I might actually die. Thanks,” she added as the drinks arrived. She grabbed her shot glass with almost as much enthusiasm as Max, not one to turn down some social lubricant in this kind of situation.
Max slammed her shot back and finished it off with the refreshing citrus of the lime. “Well, that’s all fine and interesting, but why do you do it? I mean, I assume you enjoy it to an extent.” She replied thoughtfully, before sipping her mixed drink and flipping her fallen hair back over her shoulder.
“I mean, I do music because it’s all I know how to do well, and even then I’m not exactly Jimi Hendrix or something.” She shrugged, giving Susan a little more room as she sat back in her seat. “But why journalism? I mean, it’s your medium, but what drew you to it?” She asked curiously, feeling a little embarrassed by how much she didn’t want this conversation to end. She would talk with Susan to the ends of the Earth if she could, if it meant she wouldn’t leave. If it meant maybe they could meet again.
“Oh, well, I mean. . . .” The tequila now burning in the back of her throat wasn’t working quickly enough to stop Susan from being abashed at the question of why she did what she did. But she took a swig of her drink as a chaser and forced herself to blurt out the honest answer. “I mean, really what I wanted to do was write fiction -- novels, plays, screenplays maybe. The first thing I really wrote was a one-act for the high school drama club, and I mean, it was awful but it was so cool to create something and then see it played out, turned into reality in a way.” She shrugged, realizing she’d started to sound way too invested to be cool about it, and she was leaning in way too far, bouncing her leg as she got more excited. She tried to sit stiller as she continued.
“But I never was able to really. .. .finish anything, and I was lucky enough to get the gig with the paper, which is really cool too -- I get to learn a lot of different things and get a lot of different experiences, get to see my name in print, and hopefully I’ll be able to use it all as background and inspiration to do some fiction someday like I wanted.” The truth was, she’d been starting fiction pieces for years now, and still, couldn’t commit to a single thing, was always too critical of what she had. But she didn’t want to rattle on all night, that wasn’t what Max was looking for, was it?
Maybe it was? Maybe Max genuinely wanted to hear this stuff from her?
Huh. That was an interesting thought. That would be. . . nice. Really nice.

She pulled on a strand of pink hair and squinted to make sure she was right about this. “You’re Will Graham, right? Do you have a minute? For the Herald?” she added for transparency, naming her newspaper.
The sound of hurried footfalls alerted Will to the fact that he was being followed, and unfortunately for him, this unseen figure wasn’t content just to give chase – Oh no, she had to call out to him by name, which rendered his effort to duck into a crowd of students meaningless. Will straightened his posture as the woman approached with the name of her paper on her lips, brandished like a trap, and set his jaw as he leveled his gaze toward the space just below her hairline. “That depends on what you plan to ask.”
“What I’d really like is to get your side of the story of who you are and what you do, and print it in an actual paper with a little more weight than, you know --” it took some restraint not to say something even more derisive than what she came up with -- “that online rag. But if you’re too busy for that, I’ve just got one question --” she smiled and cocked her head to the side and threw him her favorite fake-lowball, the one that always threw people off while sounding totally innocent-- “What’s your favorite movie?”
