On This Day, 24th May 1993 – Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Second Chances" airs, guest-starring Mae Jemison, the first real-life astronaut to appear on the show.

Today, Mae is the current Principal of the 100 Year Starship Project, a DARPA-NASA initiative aimed at advancing interstellar travel.
