BECCA: I miss both of you!
BECCA: When are we having sibling time?

There was a lot going through her mind lately -- Becca wasn’t used to not being able to think clearly. This time with Bruno, and missing having someone to talk to. She had enjoyed her conversation with Carter at the masquerade; it almost felt like old times. Save from the lack of touching, and kissing; but they had gotten along. And honestly, she was happy for him and his next project.
Becca knew she may never completely be over the way things ended between them, but wanted to try. It was her turn to extend an olive branch. Having picked up a small congratulatory gift for him, she sent a text to the familiar, but untouched number in her phone. Seeing the last string of messages brought an unsettled feeling to her stomach, but she hit send anyway and hoped he would show up at the bar. She figured under the watchful eye of her sister, it would be a choice place to reconcile.

“Lottie!” Becca greeted excitedly as she saw her friend enter the coffee shop. She had been meaning to get in touch with her recently -- both to catch up and see how she was doing. Time hadn’t been on her side though, and the uncertainty between her and Bruno had left Becca to be more a hermit than usual. “How are you?” she chirped, signalling for the other to slide in front of her in line. No one was paying them mind anyhow. “I’ve been thinking we really should get that book club off the ground soon, if you’re still interested? I could probably use some help choosing a title for sure. I have too many right now that have taken up my mind, and I’m not the best at making decisions.” She was stoked for the idea. So much that it already seemed like she’d down a bunch of caffeine, despite not having placed her order yet.

Although they were a few years or so apart in age, Becca always at least knew of Arianna since both had grown up in Edens Town. The library had been getting rid of a slew of books; she had already taken a hug box of them to Maddie for her classroom, but there were others that were more suited for younger ages. Those in preschool. Many were at least in mint condition, so Becca decided to stop by ABCs Daycare in town and see if they might be of use for the kiddos there. They were far from falling apart -- so Rebecca didn’t want to see them go into recycling, or worse -- the trash, just yet.
She had visited the daycare a few times before getting her job at the library; often for volunteer work or to get used to helping little ones. This was her first time in a while though, and she was excited to be back. “Good afternoon, Arianna,” Becca addressed her warmly, hoping she hadn’t interrupted in mid-lesson or anything. “Not sure if you remember me from the library or not, but we had some books that we’re weeding out and I thought maybe you guys could use some.”

Lifting his bike and hooking it over his shoulder, David prepared to climb the exterior stairs of Ethel’s Emporium up to his tiny apartment. A faux leather rucksack draped over his shoulders filled with his study books, he was more than relieved to be nearly home. At the sound of someone hailing him down, however, he spun to look, a smile spreading across his face, “hey, sorry, I was so so in my own world,” he smirked, “what can I do for you?”
Becca would have returned anything she noticed someone drop if she could catch up with them, but especially a precious book. She was a little out of breath by the time she reached one of the Fuentes brothers, but still managed to offer him a smile once she did. He must have heard the clacking of her heels on the sidewalk, which she was realizing weren’t exactly the easiest thing to run in. “You dropped one of your books!” Becca informed, holding it out to him. “I thought you might need it.”

Harrison sighed as he leant against the wall. He’d always had a bad habit of always pushing himself too far, and he was doing the same now. Pain running through his leg. He knew he should rest or take it slowly, but he just felt weak doing that. Especially right now when he had enough going through his head, and he just wanted to distract himself. The masquerade had led to some interesting developments. He had been waiting for the door to open, not quite who he had been expecting. “Sorry, was looking for Quinn. I thought she was going to be here” he offered, though it was weak. @beccareynolds
Becca knew many of Quinn’s friends, though there were some she had yet to meet. Names she could remember, but faces -- only if she had actually been introduced to them before. Normally she wouldn’t let someone in without knowing them well enough, but she had seen him at the masquerade and knew he was indeed a friend of her sister. Becca was babysitting for Quinn, so it wasn’t really a surprise that someone came expecting her instead. She smiled brightly, assuring it was fine. “No worries! She’ll be home soon,” Becca informed warmly. “I’m her sister, Becca. You’re welcome to come in and wait if you’d like? It shouldn’t be long; she said she was on her way home.”

One of the advantages of the library was being able to check out books that Mikayla wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to purchase. Of course as an aspiring writer, she was in full support of purchasing books and providing to an author’s royalties, but there were some stories that had interesting concepts, but the execution could make or break it. The book she was currently bringing back was on the latter end of the spectrum, having fallen short of creating a truly compelling story. Dropping the book off into the book return, she noticed Becca among the shelves and offered a smile and a way. “Hey. Finally got around to finishing that book I checked out a few weeks ago. It was… Something.”
Mikki was one of the tried and true regulars at the library, and Becca was always genuinely happy when she stopped by. She was one of the few patrons that really understood her love for reading, and shared it. Becca beamed back at her and returned the wave. It seemed they had similar views often when it came to genre and author preferences, so the news that Mikayla’s returned book had been a dud meant Becca likely wouldn’t enjoy it either. “Really? I take it by your tone it was an unimpressive something. Darn. I was looking forward to that one! Sometimes they just hype these books up so much that they fall flat. That’s a shame.” She quickly finished straightening the section of non-fiction; someone had clearly been too lazy to return a stack of travel books to the 900’s. “Other than that, how are you today?” Becca asked, her focus now wholly on Mikki. “We just got in a fresh wave of new books this morning if you want first dibs!”

Classes had been going surprisingly well for Madison. Her childrenwere bright, energetic and there were days when all of them were perfect angelsfor her. She did have her problem children, but she spent extra time with themand worked with other teachers to set them up for success. Every morning,Madison got there with extra time before her students would arrive. Being organizedand ready to go before each class was what she had begun to take pride in. Hernights at Tappin’ Boots were limited to weekends because she wanted to keep upon getting sleep. Not to say she completely got rid of her social life, but Madisonhad recently begun to cut down on it. She had been organizing a bin withfolders in it for her students when she heard a soft knock on her door. Maddieturned to see her favorite librarian with a smile on her face. “Morning, Becca.”She grinned back at her, her hands coming to her chest with the woman’s offer. “Didyou really?” Maddie shook her head, “That’s really so sweet of you. Of course,I’d love to take them off your hands. The kids really enjoy our story time.”
Becca really loved working with the children, and if a librarian position ever became available at the elementary school, she might try and snatch it up. Still, she was happy to provide for the children of the city at the public library; and there were more liberties she could take than at a school. “I sure did! I tried to weed out the ones that were falling apart or missing pages, so I think most of them are in fairly good shape,” she grinned, setting down the large box on one of the classroom tables. “Thank you! I wanted them to go to a good home, you know? With it being your first year here I figured you could probably use more for your classroom collection. And you’re also one of my favorite teachers -- but that stays between us,” she added lightly with a laugh. Though she meant it. Becca saw a lot of similarities in herself and Maddie; their love for helping kids and reading. Plus they were both a little more reserved. “I’m so glad! I would love to come by more often whenever you have time for me to read to them. Or if you ever wanna hang out or something after hours, let me know? I could definitely use more socialization,” she admitted sheepishly.

With the fall semester in full swing, weekends were reserved for all of the errands Bruno couldn’t run during the week. Though the typically school day was over at 2:15pm, he found himself sitting in classroom well past 6 on most nights. This Saturday morning was no different than the rest and with a to-do list in hand, he made his first stop at The Grind to get his daily coffee. As he entered the coffee shop, his gaze wandered the chairs and tables and finally rested on Becca who was waving and smiling at him. He stopped short, unsure of how to react.
His mind went to last weekend at the Masquerade event, the last time he had talked to her really. What started off as a fun night between the two of them turned into something confusing and awkward. After a few too many shots and mixed drinks from the cash bar, their playful flirting turned into small kisses turned into a full on make-out in one of the empty hallways. Despite a short crush back in high school that Bruno had blamed on teenage hormones, Bruno had never felt romance towards Becca. She was his best friends and more like the sister he never had than anything else. But that night he felt differently and had taken advantage of that opportunity to kiss her. The next morning, his hangover was accompanied by flashbacks of the night before, of their kiss, and Bruno had never felt more embarrassed. Now that he was face to face with her, his face reddened with the memories.
“Becca, hey. Yeah, always gotta start the morning with a cup of joe, am I right?” He said awkwardly, realizing this conversation was going to have to happen sooner or later. She was his best friend, for God’s sake, he couldn’t go much longer without talking to her. “How-uh, how have you been?”
This was bound to happen sooner or later -- at least if they were in a public place it might keep the awkwardness to a minimum. That was Becca’s optimism, anyhow. Not that she would expect Bruno to kiss her again, even if in the privacy of one of their places. As much as she adored him and could not deny that she felt a spark there, she also knew he didn’t feel the same way. Alcohol had given them courage to blur the lines, and she didn’t hate it. She loved kissing him. Despite the night being a bit of a haze, she could remember the way he tasted, and the warmth of his lips on hers. She had indulged, knowing when they sobered up it was probably all too good to be true. Apparently she was right. After all, wouldn’t he have spoken to her sooner if he wasn’t ashamed by it?
“Yeah, especially when you’re working all the time and running on empty. So much that you can’t text your best friend.” There was a teasing glint in her eyes though, enough to let Bruno know she wasn’t mad about it. She understood. He probably just needed some space. The flush in his cheeks didn’t go unnoticed though. “I’ve been alright, I guess. Busy week. And yourself?” Her head tilted toward the chair across from her, offering he to take a seat. The usual easy flow of conversation was strained, and they both sensed it. So, if he was willing, Becca figured it was just best to clear the air. “Can we talk for a sec?” Her eyes were wide, purposely giving him that sad, puppy-dog look.
“I won’t keep you long, I just… missed you this week,” she admitted. “I know the masquerade was…” she searched for the right word. “Eventful. But I’m not dumb,” Becca added softly. “I know you wouldn’t have kissed me sober.” It pained her to admit that. “So it doesn’t have to be a big deal.”

BECCA: I get that Dev, but you should. Do you know how many people ask me about you like all the time?? You're a catch. Bella is too. You're made for each other. Just give it some time.
BECCA: And movies? And popcorn? And all that kind of junk?
BECCA: Tbh I could use a distraction too.

It was that time of year when the librarians at Edens Library had to weed through the books in their collection. The ones that were cast aside were often falling apart from love, had barely circulated, or they were replacing with newer copies. Noting that many of them were children’s books -- particularly of elementary age, Rebecca kept a box of the ones that were in better shape. She knew Madison was still acclimating to a first year of teaching, and likely could use some for her classroom.
It was early in the morning, but Rebecca hadn’t wanted to keep her after hours, or disrupt while she had students engaged in their lessons. Checking in at the front office, she got a visitor’s pass a little before the kids would be arriving and followed directions to Miss Harrow’s classroom. The box she carried was a bit heavy, and a little big for someone so petite, but she managed. Grinning as she spotted the light on in the classroom, Becca gave the door a gentle knock. “Hey, Maddie!” she greeted warmly; the two had bonded quickly over their love of reading. “I brought you some books I thought you might want for your classroom?”

Becca’s days off were ordinarily spent staying cozied in at her place, catching up with whatever book she was currently enamored in. It wasn’t complete without a fresh latte and muffin though from The Grind. She didn’t treat herself too often, but it had become a weekly tradition. Especially now that she and Bruno weren’t really talking after too much alcohol led to confusing, complicated kisses -- she particularly needed a boost. She might even give in and get two muffins for good measure.
After placing her order and paying, Becca moved to take a seat at one of the tables near the counter until her items were ready. In the meantime she busied herself with her phone, thumb flickering over the last text from Bruno; it was sent before the ball. They had never gone so long without talking, and she didn’t know what to make of it. Peeking up from her cell as someone entered, chestnut hues widened at the sight of exactly who was on her mind. She wondered whether to duck and hide, or play it off like everything was cool. It didn’t matter though, Bruno had definitely spotted her. It was too late to do anything but wave. So she did, and gave him a soft, but shaky smile.
“Hey, B. Needed a caffeine fix too?”
