Shopping via Instagram Story?
We’ve all seen those Instagram and Snapchat story posts where people are using a product, sponsored or not (but usually sponsored), and encourage people to buy it or try it out for themselves. They often include a “swipe up” for more feature, which then takes the user to a link to purchase the product from the website. Well, earlier today, I stumbled upon an article on Digiday that talked about how users will now be able to add items to their cart and then purchase them through Instagram story. I was immediately intrigued and had to find out more.Â
Through a company called MikMak, users who see a product featured on an Instagram or Snapchat story will be able to swipe up to see the product information, add the product to their cart, and then purchase the item - all without leaving the original app and going back to what they were viewing after the purchase is complete. This brings a whole new meaning to not just driving engagement for posts, but actually driving sales.Â

I have to say, I am somewhat excited about this idea because I know that I never like clicking on a link to wait for a webpage to open to the purchase a product. It’s annoying process that usually sways me out of buying something. I think this method definitely answers those needs and I am curious to see how it plays out. Speaking as a consumer, I do think that I would find this feature beneficial and more convenient.Â
Overall, I think this is another step in the advancement of the digital world. Consumers are really more on technology to improve their lives and make things more convenient for them, and this app feature would definitely do that. I would not be surprised if more platforms implemented shopping right from their app either, as I do see this as a trend that could quickly catch on.
