Every time James had a good date idea (usually somewhere around kilometer five of a run), he'd fumble for his phone and dictate it before he forgot. By now, he'd built quite the list. Unfortunately, that only made choosing the perfect first official date even harder. An escape room? Go-karting? Fun, but maybe too intense. Painting? A picnic? Too low-key. He wanted Sirius to know he was all in. Maybe lunch in his hometown with his parents? Too serious... even if he would have loved to introduce them. The date had to be perfect! When he landed on puppy yoga, all those worries disappeared. He completely forgot the promise he'd made to himself not to make assumptions after how badly that had gone last time. Sirius had finally texted, and James was so excited that he sent a cryptic invitation without thinking twice. He wanted it to be a surprise and what could possibly beat a room full of adorable puppies? He was ridiculously proud of the idea. The confidence lasted right up until Sirius actually arrived. James greeted him with an enthusiastic explanation that quickly turned into nervous rambling, while Sirius, who hadn't exactly had many chances to practice casual conversations like this over the past few years, answered every question with painfully literal honesty. Within minutes, they were both convinced they were making a terrible first impression. Remus found it both hot and adorable. Fortunately, the puppies proved far better at breaking the ice than either of them, and by the end of the session they'd spent far more time laughing over enthusiastic dogs than doing any actual yoga.

It's finally their first official date! It's gonna be smooth sailing from now on, right? Right?! 😏
