My husband is the only person I've ever met who benefited from the Black Panthers Free Food Program. He grew up poor in SW Virginia. Each morning, two members (dressed in black leather coats, I asked lol) would bring brown bags of breakfast food for disadvantaged children at his school. I asked him what was in the bags. He said one boiled egg, a piece of fruit and a container of milk. True story.

It's a chilly and wet 55 degrees here in the #StarCityoftheSouth thanks to #HurricaneIan. Can't see the mountains at all! Winds overnight blew some outdoor chairs and a big potted palm tree I had on the carport over. Our thoughts are with our colleagues and friends in Florida, sending hugs and positive vibes for healing & a quick recovery from this devastating storm. Especially people who got flooded out. Well the main shingle roof is done just in time for the remnants of #hurricaneian to dump rain on Virginia. The roofing trucks literally were rolling out as it started to sprinkle. Next are the metal roofs over both porches, soffit & fascia and new gutters. Getting watertight became the priority when leaks showed up last May and we can breathe a sigh of relief. I love this house and can't wait to do some interior upgrades this winter. Y'all. This is the mother of all kitty beds. All he needs is a crown lol 👑 This was a distressed child's daybed that they practically gave away at Orange City Resale. Phil is so awesome & rebuilt it for the furry kids. I filled the cushion with an old down comforter so it's super cozy. Kinda big for this spot but Millie has a bad habit of taking shortcuts thru the bannister and she hurt herself last week 😭 Now she has a safe landing spot. This distressed Grand Dame with the crime scene tape at 522 5th Street was originally the home of Mrs. Ruth Poff. Granny Poff (nee Tinsley) was Phillip's maternal grandmother through his adopted family. Heard stories about this legendary matriarch for years. The most popular one being that she kept a brick in her purse and if anybody messed with her she would hit em upside the head with it.
