spoilers for soldier, poet, kindred spirit bc i need to yap before i explode

fucking around with lore is so fun unfortunately i am becoming very attached to father augustine

writing the flashback/thinking about how things used to be with him and simon when simon was a teenager makes me Big Sad

simon had his mother to teach him kindness till he was like 8, but augustine had to claw his way out of so much conditioning on his own after his missionary work made him go from True Believer to Raging Against The Dying Of The Light

he really wanted to make a better eden for his people. the only ones left on eden were true believers and he knew he had to change things slow so they wouldn’t have a civil conflict between those still loyal to jacob’s way of life and the way augustine had in mind for eden

it was an uphill battle from day one and he was going to crawl if he had to

but the astrophage seemed so unstoppable

the most he could do was try and save six people

give them twelve years

make sure the kindergarten and the apprentice station survived

he knew he couldn’t save the sisters and brothers— They No Longer Wished To Be Free

listening to “Going Down” from the hair musical and laughing way too much picturing Simon having a breakdown and switching to calling grace Enemy again but like affectionately like “yep me and the Enemy are doomed forever let’s fucking GOOOOO” (launches the fucking ship forward bc he was allowed in the cockpit during a breakdown

specifically “this is my doom. my humiliation” is him thinking about grace in ways he “shouldn’t” and “october not june” i picture him thought bubbling a rainbow flag and tearing it down like “NOT PRIDE MONTH NO GAY THOUGHTS”

but the “it’s like the fourth of july” bc grace’s voice is like fireworks to him due to synesthesia “thank god that angels can fly” and its flashback or something to when him and grace are pretending to fly while on a space walk and simon is just kind of… marveling at him bc his magnets stick him to the ship and grace is flying around to get shit done

that’s HIS demon and simon LOVES him (eventually)

Fleshing out Eden has been my favorite part of writing so far tbh?? Like the kids all get pink veils to keep their hair clean while they do apprentice stuff and just bc kids are messy and it keeps them from messing with each other by like gum/glue pranks and stuff as well as religious reasons

and simon was so goddamn bitter about his veil being removed when he got older bc it kept kids from pulling his hair so i keep pondering grace is going to make him one somehow and like they’ve got a language barrier but they’re working on it the same way grace did with rocky
