Havnt updated in a while!

The flake has been going for almost a month! Not entirely sure if it’s going good though ;w; some critters have gotten in but I’m going to continue taking care of it to see if the recipe change worked. Next time I will probably get a heating mat to be sure the temp stays above 80. It’s gotten a tiny bit darker since I started it and still smells yeasty, which I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not 🤔

New critter! I got a ghost praying mantis :p I named them Dio (I’m not sure it’s gender yet)

Today I got 2 Doecus titanus yasuokai larva. I wanna do an experiment to see the difference between a stag raised on flake and a stag raised on kinshi :p they’re both around L1 so they got quite a while to go.

In the mean time I put my green rainbow stag in a kinshi container to see if it’ll help it grow a little faster. I’ve had it for a few months and I’m pretty sure it was just a hatchling when I got it. The purple stag is got at the same time as the green one is really big now! I wonder if it’ll pupate soon.

The seller Included this super cool dragon fly figure with my yasuokai that took me literally forever to put together but it was really fun :D

Started the flake soil today! I think there was a mistake in the recipe I used so I changed the amount of yeast but kept the sugar and flour the same so I’m hoping things go well. If not I’ll just find a different recipe and try again. Mixing this stuff by hand is a work out 🥲

Also I gave my children some apple slices since I’m low on beetle jelly until my DHH is ready to be bought.

Hello new followers! Thanks for showing interest in this insect journey ^_^ I have some exciting news!

I’m set up to get 2 ghost mantises when I get payed next week. This will be my first time ever having a mantis so I’m excited to see how it goes! Maybe it’ll help my fear of some of the bigger species. Second I’ll be trying to make my own flake soil soon. I wanna start a batch as soon as possible while it’s still hot outside. That is all bug club :) here’s some drawings of rainbow stags I did in my research book.

Hi! I’m Queniece :3

I’m starting this blog to track my beetle/bug knowledge and collection! Right now I have 9 beetles. 5 adults and 4 larva.

This is Goku! The first beetle larva I received :) they’re an Easter herculese beetle (Dynasties Tityus) and I believe they’re pupating soon.

This is dende (smaller one) and Frieza (bigger one). They are both rainbow stags (Phalacrognathus muelleri) and have gotten much bigger since these pictures were taken.

I don’t have any pictures of them but I also have a Japanese rhino beetle larva that has no name yet.

Here are my adults! This is yamcha. He’s a saw stag beetle (Prosopocoilus inclinatus).

And my derby flower beetles (Dicronorrhina derbyana). There are 4 of them!

I am also interested in having some other bugs like praying mantises and millipedes. Though despite being interested in some bugs I’m terrified of others. I think centipedes and spiders are the devil ;w;

Right now my current plan beetle wise is to breed Goku to maybe get some eggs! To do that I will need to make my own flake soil which is new to me. I’ll post lots of progress and pictures to this blog to keep track of everything :)
