The X-Files (1993-2018) | 6.03: "Triangle"
So far my favorite thing about the X-Files is that they stablish pretty early on that Mulder will break into, trespass or infiltrate government-adjacent and military facilities, he will get caught doing it, and then Scully will have to go and get him like "yes, he did something illegal, but he's just a silly little guy" as if Mulder's her annoying-but-harmless dog who got into someone's trash and not a grown ass man trying to expose government secrets.
And at first, both the viewer and said government agents who caught Mulder sneaking around will be under the impression that Scully is the reasonable, levelheaded rule-follower in this dynamic, but the show is quick to point out that if someone does refuse to hand Mulder back she is more than willing to highjack a car and hold another officer at gunpoint in a hostage situation, she would just prefer to ask politely and avoid the hassle.
Cancer scully :(
It’s ok she gets better…. Eventually

Attempted to do X-Files for spooktober but got sidetracked

the x-files is fun because any time you get a legitimately good episode they make sure to follow it up with some shit like The Ghoul That Caused The Challenger Disaster or Amish Pheromones. really cleanses the palate

Planning on doing a 'SPN' version too: Sam & Dean driving in the Impala, as prompted by a fellow SPN friend :)
X files episode pitch that popped into my head about 30 seconds after I woke up yesterday
scully, what are you wearing?
I think what continues to draw people to the x files all these decades later is that Mulder and Scully are coworkers. like. all the insane shit they do for each other, and the whole time they're just. colleagues. sure, they're best friends, but we hardly ever get to see them hanging out together outside of work. they drop the craziest flowery monologues that could easily be mistaken for love confessions. but! they're coworkers. so they're like ok, see you monday at the office. they go to hell and back to rescue each other, both of them taking turns being Orpheus and Eurydice. but they're coworkers. they're the most important person in each other's life. they just work together. it's frustrating. it's beautiful. no one's ever done it like them. possibly because it's the wrong way to do it. compels me though
The Gillovny Eras Tour: A Longitudinal Study In Whatever This Is
ERA 1: “Oh No, That’s Actual Chemistry” Era (1993–1995)
Vibe: Accidental chemistry. And lots of it.
Two young actors accidentally invent one of the most unhinged slow burn dynamics in television history while fully believing they are just coworkers.
Neither of them knows what is happening yet. Everyone else absolutely does.
ERA 2: The “Held Together By Spite and Sexual Tension” Era (1996–1998)
Vibe: Peak onscreen magic and open hostility.
Production stress. Tabloid tension. Legendary stories about them barely speaking off camera.
And legendary stories of a friendlier variety.
Meanwhile they are out here redefining eye contact as a romantic weapon.
ERA 3: The “Emotional War Veterans” Era (1999–2002)
Vibe: survival bonded with a hint of mutual respect
They have survived each other, the show, lawsuits, fame, and filming schedules that qualify as psychological experiments.
The visible irritation mellows into something suspiciously resembling deep professional soulmate energy.
Bonded by shared television trench warfare.
ERA 4: The “Divorced But Still Shares The Dog” Era (2003–2007)
Vibe: Professionally independent, spiritually co-signed.
Separate careers. Separate lives. Public distance.
The X-Files becomes legacy media and fandom quietly places Gillovny into a carefully labeled emotional archive box.
Contents: complicated. Do not shake.
ERA 5: The “Wait Why Are They Flirting Again” Era (2008–2013)
Vibe: Reunited and it feels so good. No, but really.
Reunion press tours reintroduce them as suspiciously comfortable ex-partners who remember every inside joke and also every single one of each other’s mannerisms.
Fandom begins cautiously reopening 400 archived emotional folders.
This was supposed to be professional.
ERA 6: The “Unhinged Convention Renaissance” Era (2014–2018)
Vibe: Convention chaos meets peak public affection.
Hand holding. Couch interviews. Panel chaos. HD cameras capturing thirty years of shared nonsense.
The internet gains visual evidence and immediately loses structural integrity.
They knew. We knew. Everyone knew.
ERA 7: The “Emotionally Codependent Constellation” Era (2019–Present)
Vibe: Settled into long term gravitational nonsense.
Less spectacle. More quiet mutual admiration. Long-term orbit behavior.
No labels. Just gravitational pull and three decades of shared cultural mythology.
Some dynamics simply become permanent fixtures in television history.
ENCORE: The “Someone Is Going To Write A Dissertation About This” Era
Vibe: No longer a ship. Fully a case study.
Currently ongoing.
Hi again tumblr I offer a study of Scully :P

"just skip the bad episodes" and miss the thrill of a mid x-files episode after a terribly offensive one???
