Killing you in my mind
I’m going straight to hell for this
From the movie: Ted Bundy, 2002
Human remains in bags
Gary Ridgway, The Green River Killer
by far the most well known American who appears the top ten serial killers list,he almost exclusively targeted sex workers from Seattle and sometimes had sex with their corpses.
Proven victims: 49
Possible victims: 71 - 90+
He operated in Washington state and favored prostitutes as his victims. After five of his earliest victims were found in the Green River, the press would name him the Green River Killer. Gary’s murders occurred over two decades and he was long a suspect but it was not until 2001 following his son providing a DNA sample that authorities would have enough evidence to link him to the crimes.
After listening for more than two hours as his victims’ loved ones told him how he’d devastated their lives, Green River Killer Gary Leon Ridgway apologized. “I’m sorry for killing all those young ladies,” said the 54-year-old truck painter, who pleaded guilty to 48 murders from 1982 to 1998. “I have tried to remember as much as I could to help the detectives find and recover the ladies. I’m sorry for the scare I put in the community.”
He wiped his eyes and nose as King County prosecutors read the sentence he faced for killing each woman - life in prison with no possibility of release. And tears rolled down his cheeks when some family members said they’d found room in their hearts, with God’s help, to forgive him.
“I have tried a long time to get these things out of my mind,” Ridgway said, slowly. “I tried for a long time to keep from killing any more ladies.”
“I’m sorry that I’ve put my wife, my son, my brothers and my family through this hell,” he said, pausing, near tears. “I’m sorry I caused so much pain to so many families.”

“I think I’ve made myself clear on that. Ted Bundy is not crazy, or anywhere near it. I have done some things I’m not proud of. Some of these things I may talk about; others I never can. But, just like I’ve told every lawyer I’ve ever talked to, forget any insanity defense for me. I’m not insane, by anybody’s stretch of the imagination. Think about it a minute. I’m not crazy. Everybody knows that.” - Ted Bundy
The Schizo’s
Schizophrenia is a familiar term within the mental health community. While the diagnosis itself is relatively rare when compared to the general community, schizophrenia has become a misconceived and blanket term for a variety of different diagnoses.
In reality there is: schizophrenia, schizoid, schizotypal, schizophreniform, and schizoaffective disorder. Sadly, and all too often, these disorders and their distinct differences are not recognized. So without further ado, here is a <brief> breakdown of the different disorders and their specific diagnoses/symptoms:
Schizophrenia: Easily the most recognized and commonly-used term, schizophrenia is diagnosed when a client has at least 2 of the following symptoms:
Delusions
Hallucinations
Disorganized Speech
Disorganized of catatonic behavior
Negative Symptoms
At least one of the symptoms has to be delusions, hallucinations or disorganized speech. Additonally, schizophrenia is only diagnosed if symptoms have been present for at least six months.
Schizophreniform: Literally the exact same as schizophrenia, however symptoms have been present for less than six months but at least one month.
Schizoaffective: Again, all the same criteria of schizophrenia, except there must also be evidence of an intermittent (it’s not always present) mood disorder. A mood disorder may consist of a major depressive episode, a manic episode, or a mixed episode - in which both depressive and manic symptoms present. The most common example I have seen/used is somebody with symptoms of Bipolar and Schizophrenia (it’s quite a fun combination, as you can imagine).
Schizotypal: This is actually a chronic personality disorder first and foremost. Therefore most of the symptoms affect - you guessed it- the individual’s personality. The official diagnosis criteria include:
Significant impairments in personality functioning as shown by:
Impairments in self functioning:
Identity: Confused boundaries between self and others; distorted self-concept; emotional expression often not congruent with context or internal experience.
Self-direction: Unrealistic or incoherent goals; no clear set of internal standards.
Impairments in interpersonal functioning: i.e. empathy, romantic interest
Pathological personality traits in the following domains:
Psychoticism - eccentric behaviors, cognitive dysregulation, and unusual beliefs or experiences
Detachment - i.e. withdrawal
Negative Affectivity - i.e.anhedonia, “void of emotions”
Schizoid: Once again, a personality disorder. The criteria for this disorder, according the DSM-5 are:
Significant impairments (i.e., mild impairment or greater) in self (identity or self-direction) and interpersonal (empathy or intimacy) functioning.
One or more pathological personality trait domains OR specific trait facets within domains, considering ALL of the following domains.
Negative Affectivity
Detachment - few, if many personal/close relationships
Antagonism
Disinhibition vs. Compulsivity
Psychoticism (explained above)
And of course with just about any and every disorder in the DSM - these symptoms can not be the result of drugs/alcohol/medications, and they must have some sort of impairment on the individual’s social or occupational functioning in order to be a qualifying diagnosis.

From Sunday School Teacher To Female Sex Offender/Killer Melissa Huckaby
On the 27th of March 2009 in a California trailer park, 9 year old Sandra Cantu was playing with friends but she didn’t return home. After 10 days her body was found in a suitcase in a pond. Autopsy revealed she was beaten, raped and smothered to death.
28 year old trailer park resident Melissa Huckaby was ruled out originally due to her gender, but evidence proved vital. The sunday school teacher’s daughter often played with Cantu, it was CCTV that showed Cantu walking towards the Huckaby residence and then the SUV driving off.
DNA evidence was found on a rolling pin of Huckaby’s, this was used during the sexual assault.
Melissa Huckaby pled guilty to avoid a death sentence and instead was sentenced to life in prison

A Columbine Survivor Lance Kirklin
On the 20th of April 1999 in Colorado, one of the most notorious school shootings took place in Columbine. 15 school students died and well over 20 were injured. One of them was Lance Kirklin.
Lance Kirklin was having lunch with Dan Rohrbough and Sean Graves, after they finished the trio went to a smoking area known to students, but this was the start of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold’s killing spree. Lance witnessed Dan get shot and attempted to them, but this led to him being shot in the foot, leg and chest. Dylan then shot him point blank in the face, Kirklin later stated before he blacked out he witnessed Dan take his last breath.
Lance suffered 5 gunshot wounds, his jaw was rebuilt with bone and tissue from his leg as well as titanium alloy to replace lost bone in his thigh and jaw, this took 9 operations.
After being released he helped investigators trying to understand what happened, he managed to draw an image of what he saw before he passed out.
Gary Ridgway explaining how he got his victims to get into his car.
When they asked to see his ID, he would show it in a strategic way so his victims would see he was a family man, and they’d think he was a safe person to be with.

Serial Killers and their place on the Scale of Evil.
The Scale of Evil was developed by forensic psychiatrist Dr. Michael Stone, of Columbia University. The scale ranges from Category 1, those who kill in self-defense, to the Category 22, serial torture-murderers.
