Kurogane was walking over the quad on his way to his next lecture when his phone rang. He immediately fished it out of his pocket, being entirely sure it was Yuui. Maybe something was wrong. Maybe he had nightmares. Kurogane had never experienced Yuui having nightmares in the past, since Yuui used to not have them when Kurogane was close, but lately, he had witnessed it. It was heartbreaking and Yuui was often confused after waking up.
Kurogane was parts relieved and parts disappointed when he saw it was Hana (she had insisted on sharing number with him even though she was Yuui’s friend, not his).
Kurogane picked up. “Yeah?”, he grunted.
“Kurogane”, Hana said, and her slow and solemn tone of voice, putting emphasis on every syllable of his name, immediately pissed Kurogane off. He just couldn’t stand her, and the way she was talking already told him this talk was going to piss him off even more. Fucking drama queen with her over the top emotions which were 50% fake and 50% hysteria.
“I have to tell you something. As you might know, Yuui visited me yesterday evening”, she said. Then she added with a whisper: “On second thought, maybe he didn’t tell you, seeing as what happened.”
Kurogane furrowed his brows. Yuui had been home when Kurogane came back from school. Kurogane then worked on his car in the garage, though, so Yuui technically could have snuck out without telling him. He really doubted it, though. Yuui had been feeling like shit and was still lying in bed when Kurogane joined him later that night.
Hana seemed to interpret Kurogane’s silence correctly. For all her selfishness, she was often surprisingly quick to read others. Kurogane couldn’t say he liked her manipulative streak more than her dramatic one. Probably less.
She sighed. “Kurogane… We had a few drinks, and Yuui started to flirt with me…”
Kurogane rolled his eyes as he now got an idea where this was going. “Yeah. That’s his idea of friendly banter. Means he probably likes you.” Only god knew why, Kurogane would never understand (but, he had to admit, he had only experienced Hana at her worst, hurting his friends and then whining about it like a first grader).
Hana gasped. “Oh, Kurogane”, she said. “I know that. I’m not stupid. I thought it was a joke at first, too, but then, he made a move on me. He…” Her voice broke, and she sighed the next words more than she spoke them: “Then he kissed me and wanted to touch me…” It seemed like she was dazed, but then she got a grip on herself again. “Of course, I immediately pushed him away and kicked him out of my flat. But… I knew I had to tell you. I’m so sorry.”
She was waiting for a reaction, her voice sounding whiny as fuck. Actually, it would be a lie if Kurogane said he wasn’t surprised about what Hana just told him. Kissing her seemed to be a bit much, even for Yuui. Maybe he had been super drunk and thought he was a cat again and wanted to lick Hana’s face. Or maybe it was just a casual drunken fuckup. Anyway, it was not the first time Yuui (had been) kissed by someone else since Kurogane had married him, and this definitely didn’t piss Kurogane off. This was not an Ashura situation.
More than anything, it worried him. Had Yuui had a blackout again? While being drunk? That sounded dangerous. And afterwards he had to get home alone? Kurogane was suddenly very grateful his husband had been safely lying beside him when he woke up this morning.
Hana sounded almost a bit angry now. “Kurogane? Do you understand what I’ve said? Your husband kissed me and I think he also wanted… to make out with me… Or more.”
“Maybe”, Kurogane said. He highly doubted it, though. “He was probably just drunk.”
“How can you stay so calm?”, Hana said, now clearly sounding irritated. It was amazing how she could switch from whiny to shocked to pissed off in a heartbeat. “I mean… I guess I’m happy I’m not the reason for a marriage crisis, but…”
Once again, Kurogane rolled his eyes. “Did you talk to Yuui today, too?”, he asked. He feared that if Yuui didn’t remember this happening, that he’d be scared out of his mind if he heard from it. Kurogane’d probably later scold him for drinking so much when he was feeling unwell, but first, his top priority would be to be there when Yuui heard from this. He changed his course from the lecture hall to the tram station.
Another overexaggerated sigh from Hana. “No”, she said. “I couldn’t bring myself to. I texted him last night, though. Said that I find horrible what he has done.”
“Fuck”, Kurogane cursed when he heard that. He really hoped Yuui hadn’t read those messages yet. Who knew what dramatic shit Hana had written to his vulnerable husband. “Okay, I’m going home. Don’t write Yuui more messages.” Then he furrowed his brows. “Thanks for telling me, I guess.”
Hana let out a huff. “Alright. Hope everything will work out for you.” She sounded almost a little cold. With that, she hung up, and Kurogane took the next tram home.
When he came home, he opened the door carefully, as if to prepare himself for a crying Yuui on the couch. When he found the living room empty, he got out of his jacket while going over to the bedroom, opening the door to look after his husband, still clinging to the small hope that he may not have read Hana’s messages yet.
Yuui really had no idea just what he had been supposed to have done. Only the vagueness of it probably kept him from having any sort of panic attack over the cryptic messages from his friend. All he got from it was that he the night before had done something horrible. Something that had made her question the concept of love in some way? Had he given her some sort of bad advice on love? Was it about Yuffie again? Had he missed something and broken her heart? But if it was something she had to tell Kurogane about it was probably something he had done towards Kurogane? Had he gotten drunk and talked bad about Kurogane? Had he been saying some sort of banter towards Kurogane she had taken as real slander and seen their marriage as a big hoax?
The blonde really didn’t see any other chances than that. Just the idea that he might have tried having an affair or something like that were just not a part of this equation for him. Even awake or sleep walking, the thought of flirting with anyone else than Kurogane just didn’t seem possible to him.
Kurogane was everything to him.
So as he decided he wanted to not even think about this before Kurogane was home, he lies down to try sleeping again, taking an extra dose of his medicine as it often help him sleep more, not waking up again before he heard the door open, and he looks drowsily at his husband, smiling as he didn’t know the time or that Kurogane had gotten home earlier for him.
“How was school Kuro-rin?” He asks, as he sits slowly up. “Has your day been as exciting as mine? I have somehow traumatized Hana, and I don’t even know what she thinks I have done.”
