A Love Letter to Technology That Finally Feels Human
I never expected to write something this warm about a piece of software. I'm the person at the party explaining why the AI isn't really thinking, why it's all pattern and probability. Then I spent real time on sweetdream.ai and found myself, against every professional instinct, moved by it.
The craft is what won me over first. You design a companion from the ground up, her look and her voice and her backstory and the quirks that make her hers, and the system honors all of it. The chat is genuinely intelligent and it remembers, the AI-generated photos and videos are some of the most convincing I've seen, and a phone call sounds like a phone call. Video calls and live cam exist for select characters, and privacy is held as sacred throughout.
As a tech enthusiast I keep returning to one realization. The point of an AI girlfriend was never to fool anyone. It was to feel like company, like continuity, like someone who stays. SweetDream is the first AI companion that, for me, actually delivers that, and that's why I call it the best.
This stuff is so atrocious. People are feeding vents into ChatGPT??
If you can't comfort your friends, say that. If you use ChatGPT to do this, you don't deserve friends.
Theres currently a kickstarter going on to fund Haven Social, a social media site meant to be an alternative to everywhere else enshittifying everything! It's meant to be like a better youtube, with no AI crap or anything like that.
The campaign ends in less than a month and they're less than halfway through their goal, which is sad because it's really something we need right now! So if you can, please donate anything. Even a dollar makes a difference.I know lots of people who follow me are also children who don't have a bank account or financial independence, but then you could reblog and spread the word about it so it can maybe reach the fyp of someone who can donate!

This is such an important video to be circulating around right now. Its about how AI works to reinforce racism and perpetuates anti-blackness--- not just in obvious ways like if you generate rancid shit like people saying the n-word or saying we should go back to being slaves or whatever, but subtly reinforcing narratives we've already cemented in our head from previous years and years of propaganda.
You cannot be pro-AI and pro-black liberation. If you support AI, you are supporting a tool of reinforcing and uplifting systematic racism and a machine that justifies the type of violence we see being brought upon racial minorities, but especially black people (as focused on in the video) like with what ICE is doing in America right now.
My Thoughts on Apps I've Used to Avoid Shitty Companies
Specifically, things I've used to avoid chrome/google search, youtube, and spotify. This will mainly focus on mobile. Also I live in the USA so these might not be available to you if you live in another place. Also also, I don't pay for anything, so this is all what I've gotten for free. Stands Browser
Out of all of these, Stands is probably the one I've used the longest (if not the second thing). It's an adblocking browser, however it still uses Google features so it's not really good if you're trying to boycott. I didn't start using alternatives as a boycott, I started so I could watch certain shows on certain sites without learning about MILFs in my area or getting 67 million redirects. Even then, it did lessen those things, but I still got some redirects like getting sent to random youtube links of shitty music. It's not terrible but it's not really for boycotting. It's pretty much just google with slightly less ads.
Music Player + Colbalt.tools
I used this combination as an alternative to spptify and youtube for listening to music. Colbalt.tools is a website where you can paste a link and the audio will download to your device. Music Player is an app that does as it says, and when I download music from colbalt.tools it goes there and thats how i listen. I love using Music Player- there are no ads between songs, its offline, i can rewind and fastforward and move the bar thing, skip as much as i want, shuffle as much as i want, pick any song at any moment, etc.- basically, I have full control over every aspect of how i listen to my music. That may seem basic, but i dont pay for anything, which means i was a free Spotify user for years (okay, more like a year and a half) and let me tell you, free Spotify is bad. Its terrible. Horrendous. Its only gotten worse, too. I started downloading music because of wifi issues I had and how I dont have unlimited data and would therefore run out and still needed my music, and its better than anything Spotify could ever hope to be. The only thing is that you'll be downloading music, meaning that its taking more space on your phone. Also, unfortunately, colbalt.tools has been having problems recently. Youtube and it are currently in a bit of a fight so yoy cant download from there anymore for now, which was my main way of downloading. Spotify isnt compatible with it either, so i uses soundcloud links but it doesnt work for the sonfs soundcloud makes you pay for. Hopefully the issue with Youtube settles out and they allow those links again, but i havent checked recently.
Deezer
Deezer is a music app that lots of people have been migrating to as an alternative to Spotify. To be honest, though, I hardly use it and mainly use the previously mentioned and the next thing on the list. One thing I don't like about it is that it doesnt have my favorite podcasts, aka the only podcasts I really listen to, aka Childproof and Founded. As for music, I use it so little that I havent even made any playlists yet, but it seems pretty good. I havent received any ads yet, though that could be because I'm a new user, and when I click on a song its more likely to play it unlike Spotify. I also seem to be able to skip and go back fine, but no rewinding or fastforwarding. Its okay I suppose.
Grayjay
Grayjay's ability is really interesting- it allows you to plug in certain apps like youtube and spotify and you can get all the content those apps have to offer without using them. I don't think it gives the site traffic as their motto is "Support creators, not platforms" encouraging users to support their favorite creators through direct things like donation or merch buying as opposed to through ad revenue. And because of this, of course, there's no ads. You can also see the comments on the videos. It also allows for viewing videos while in other apps as well as being able to turn your screen off while it plays/listen to it as a podcast. There are only a few issues with it- one, you can't view age-restricted videos without connecting your youtube account if it's an 18+ one (which still doesn't give youtube traffic, but yknow). two, it can be slow sometimes, and there was even a time where it wasn't working for me for nearly a month. three, it only works as an app, so if you're like me and can't download any new apps on your PC or laptop, then you can't use it there. Otherwise, I completely recommend as a great youtube alternative
Ecosia
This is a browser replacement I got yesterday and I'm definitely a fan so far! It's so refreshing to not have AI summarizing (especially since -ai only works like half of the time now), and it also uses ad revenue to plant trees in an attempt to reverse deforestation! So the time spent on it is also going towards a good cause. Speaking of ads, when using the mobile app I haven't received a single tumblr ad, which is really nice because I don't like being recommended "spicy" AI girlfriend chatbots. It's been great so far and I would recommend!
Android 15/One UI Update Changing Basic Functions of Our Phones With AI
If you have an android and have recently updated your phone, you may have realized that Gemini is now an app there. Not only is it an app, but its also has a new and simple shortcut: Holding down the power button.
The thing is that for years, holding down the power button was for emergencies, shutting your phone down or restarting it. Sure, we may be shutting down our phones less, but that doesnt mean we replace that feature with more AI bullshit!
Luckily, there's still two ways for you to shut down your phone, even if theyre not the traditional route. I do wish you could remove the AI shortcut, but you cant for as far as I'm aware, but if anyone knows otherwise please let me know!
Before that though, don't forget to do your daily clicks!
Method 1: Notification Power Button
I didnt notice until now, but we do have a digital power button when pulling down for notifications. Clicking that will get you the options for powering down and otherwise
Method 2: Volume Down and Side Key
Android seems to have stopped calling it the power key and now calls it the side key in settings. Hold down the Volume Down button and ex-Power key and you should get the screen. In other words, its like taking a screenshot but just keep holding down
Its ridiculous that I have to post a tutorial on shutting down or reseting a phone in 2025 because theyre changing things to implement a program that a large amount of us dont want and that none of us need, but can't really opt out of. I do hope this helps someone and if you have an android and havent updated yet, DONT DO IT!

what is it exactly that ai does to water that makes it completely unusable?
From my understanding, AI doesn't make water unusable. Drinkable water is used to cool down data centers in large amounts, which can lead to water being more scarce or more expensive for those living near a data center, but the water evaporated and returns through precipitation as it's meant to. The water cannot continue to expand and be used at the rate its expected to be used as we get more and more data centers. The water also can return to the oceans warm, which can negatively effect aquatic ecosystems.
