❛ i attended enough to be currently not at risk of having — social services called on my parents for alleged child neglect, ❜ the blonde said, her lips pressed into a thin line. while she could vaguely understand why her neighbours were somewhat nervous about the fact that they had never encountered her parents ( and never would, due to obvious reasons ), and while she would likely relate to this confusion laced nervousness if it was a mortal child of her supposed age, living alone, she would prefer for her neighbourhood to have a lesser interest in what she was doing.

( though this was unlikely; fay had long learned that no matter where she went, there would always be someone raising an eyebrow at her. )

reaching for a glass of water from a nearby tray, fay took a sip before clearing her throat and continuing to speak. ❛ how have you been? ❜ she asked, her right arm toying with the hem of her sweater. it was always — awkward, encountering someone after so many years and having everything and nothing to talk about at the same time. ❛ i mean — i heard something about the new neighbour being a surgeon so i guess that’s what you’re doing now but … aside from that? ❜

“ah, yes. i can see how that would be troubling.”

EMERY agreed, reluctantly grateful that she hadn’t been murdered at a younger age. she already got enough curiosity flung her way without appearing as a teenager. on her identification emery always claimed to be older than her physical age - twenty nine. the comments about how she still looked so young were easier to bare than people doubting her qualifications.

IT was a bit unsettling to hear that the neighborhood was a nosy one - but, to be fair, fay’s situation was quite unique. perhaps they would, in fact, leave emery out of future events.

“i don’t have much of a life outside of work, i’m afraid. the hospital is rather nice here though, so I have been fortunate in that regard.” the dark-haired woman answered charmingly, the rehearsed small talk coming with ease. “yourself? are you enrolled in any schooling?”
