Sawyer listened to her without interrupting, arms loosely crossed as he leaned back. When she called Kirby a mastermind, he huffed a quiet laugh. “Yeah, that tracks,” he said dryly. “The evil genius vibe was already on the table.” He watched her tuck her phone away, then shook his head when she dramatically told him to slap her.“Tempting,” he said with a crooked grin, “but I’m not trying to get punched again today.” As she explained that it wasn’t about familiarity with toxicity, Sawyer’s expression softened a little. He gave a small nod, clearly taking her seriously. “Hey,” he said calmly, “I wasn’t saying you don’t know the difference. You do. Better than most.” When she admitted that sometimes Kirby just looked at her and she melted, he snorted, unable to help himself. “Oh wow,” he said, dragging a hand down his face. “So the big, scary Loud Bekah gets taken out by eye contact.” He shook his head, though the teasing smile stayed. “That’s brutal.” Her dramatic declaration of hating herself made him chuckle again, but there was still that familiar protective tone under it. “You don’t hate yourself,” he said. “You’re just unfortunately very into someone who clearly knows exactly what buttons to push.” When she started talking about his relationship being softer, Sawyer shrugged a little, glancing down before looking back at her. “Yeah, well,” he said lightly, “I'd been in a toxic relationship for way too long. I needed to find someone more zen." A grin slowly spread across his face. “Okay, hold on,” he said, sitting up a little straighter. “That’s actually kind of accurate.” He pointed at her for a second like he was emphasising the point, then suddenly lifted his fist toward her. “Hell yeah,” he said with a laugh, holding it there expectantly for a bump. “Different fonts, same chaotic document.” He glanced at her, eyes scanning her face like he was memorising the little quirks that made her her. “You know,” he said quietly, his tone more sincere now, “I like that we’re so similar. Feels like, I don’t know, like someone finally gets it, gets me.” He gave a small shake of his head with a soft laugh. “Wouldn’t change you for the world, tho. So don’t go changing for anyone else.”
as sawyer laughed at her for admitting how she melted whenever kirby looked at her, rebekah rolled her eyes. "i’m not telling you anything anymore," she muttered, shaking her head, her cheeks lightly pink. "i don’t even know how she does it," she added, "it’s exactly like that, she knows which buttons to push, and she’s going to be a great lawyer, she’s got a way with words," she assured. rebekah let out a small sigh. "i’ve been with people before, and for the first time, i wasn’t worried about whether she’d stop loving me or just walk away whenever she felt like it… it felt real, the way she talks to me and everything, it’s just… incredible," she admitted, more honest than before, and it didn’t sound like she hated her anymore, not really. she looked over at sawyer. "you deserve someone the complete opposite of lacey, what a bitch," she rolled her eyes. she was genuinely glad he’d found someone soft, someone kind. she didn’t know daphne, probably wouldn’t get past a simple hello, but from the way sawyer talked about her, it sounded like he’d found the right person. when he told her he wouldn’t change her for anything, she smiled, bumping her fist against his after calling them the same document in different fonts. they were both chaotic, both a little messed up, but they had each other. she wrapped an arm around his back, leaning into him. "i wouldn’t either," she said softly. "it’s us against the world."
