Deep sigh. You want me to ~be compassionate~ here's the compassionate answer: your trauma will tell you you're a helpless child forever and you need to Not Think This Way for yourself (living under the assumption you're still in danger whether you actually are or not) and everyone else who has to tiptoe around your Sensitivity. That's how you break the cycle and you can only do this by accepting responsibility for your actions. And it seems like a small semantic thing but imo step one is calling yourself a survivor instead of a victim. Self identifying with your victimhood helps No One. You lived, now get up

i do have to admit frederick trumper from chess the musical is one of the characters ever written. like no matter how Good or Bad chess the musical is you have to admit that they really managed to make one of the most batshit insane character concepts ever conceived

when he first shows up the music immediately changes to 80s synth just so we know he’s an asshole. he’s shown telling the press to eat shit and then beats up a reporter within the first 10 minutes of the show. he says “i see him in my dreams” when asked about his opponent and then his chess match with that guy is scored to the same tune as when that guy argues with his wife. he changes sexualities between songs. one of his songs was an 80s hit but the rest of the musical wasn’t so for a while in the 80s one of the chart toppers was a guy talking about how he likes chess and doesn’t care about sex. in one version he sells his feet pics. him being afraid of cable cars causes a major plot point. one of his chess moves is “just flip the board lol” (he is a world champion). at one point every other character onstage makes fun of him which causes him to have a 4 min epic rock solo about how his mom slept around. he’s called gay slurs twice, once by himself. he’s a sports reporter but only on chess which is apparently a real job in chess musical universe. he is inventing slurs for russian people in real time. doesn’t get any kind of proper resolution he just noscopes away once the Divorce Battles start happening and we never see him again. WHO is doing it like him

he is an asshole american chess player that clearly takes inspo from bobby fischer but the lyrics also mention bobby fischer hes not the like Universe Equivalent. so there’s just an overabundance of american megalomaniac chess players in this universe

there’s a version of the show where he gets brain damage halfway through and becomes good

at one point in the show a major transcontinental prisoner exchange relies on him to be a scheming little cartoon villain sidekick in order to be pulled off. He doesn’t seem to be aware this is happening
