I'm going to do something different, I have had these characters for a long time now and I am going to reflect on the sexuality, gender identity, romantic inclinations and whatever else I think of. For reference when I do gender and sexuality during creation I just go with whatever vibes I have for them at the time, I don't put much thought into it most of the time.
Eriquira “Kira” Sarkahnis: Other than being my biggest fumble in general (he was originally going to be the primary character over Nul), he's definitely the one where I have the most uncertainty. Being a gay man only interested in masculine men while being mildly misogynistic was definitely the right choice in that I do not think I should have gone with a different identity. But I definitely think that if I redid him he would have been a much different character. The He/They part was definitely an unusual sign of things to come, like every character has been some variation of He/They excluding Nox who is exclusively They/Them. Kira has always been a simple man; a goofy switch with a dumb sense of humor, and that reflects in his choice of partners.
Nul'Sirah: Hey what if I made a grim reaper entity a cynical and traumatized victim of the horrors inflicted by powers beyond his comprehension... and then made him cope by making him act like a bored 24 year old with excessive superpowers? The general idea I nailed here. What I will eternally fail to do however, is figure out why he is in love with Kira. Probably had an idea all the way back 10 years ago but forgot to write it down somewhere important. In fact the premise of this entire blog limited his potential and in hindsight most likely would have been better off making it a single muse with just him, hell early on he had great ship chemistry with someone. Truly though he is the kind of person who much more enjoys making friends than seeking out romance. The gender though is the interesting part, he can shapeshift into any form his imagination can conjure but he almost always defaults to something masculine with his most iconic form simply being what Kira liked the most.
Sun Yi: I had ideas here but I botched pretty much everything except his backstory and mystery. It's apparent looking back that he is more or less Aromantic given that outside of his early days when I was still figuring him out he never really demonstrated romantic attraction in my mind, and sex ends up being more of a source of fun than anything meaningful. As for gender: Well angels are angels, unlike dragons they do have a concept of gender, but it is more an archetype they choose and at the core they don't consider themselves any different (if that makes any sense). He definitely had the most potential for an independent literary work too. Surprisingly kinky given everything we see from him.
Mason Bellicosa: Oh cool I can finally say I nailed just about everything this time! Gender non-conforming male vampire whose tastes and even sexuality evolved with age. Turns out chasing your own pleasure leads to you learning a few things about yourself especially when you're an immortal aristocrat from a medieval catholic upbringing. Whereas Kira is a switch because it feels natural for every relationship to have its own dynamic, Mason is a switch because it is what he craves... romantically it is a different story, I can never stress enough that he is a snake. He is very dominant and even controlling when it comes to the relationship itself. Mason is very much a bad person.
Nox Teixeira: Not much to say, and I mean that in a positive way. I am very confident that I made all the "right" choices when I created them. Dragons don't have a concept of gender and as such They/Them is the only acceptable pronoun for Nox. What makes them stand out is that they are very masc presenting, and a big part of that is past trauma that alas I may never be able to write because I'm afraid of doing a poor job and disrespecting real people. Sex is very casual with Nox, they have a network of partners and make no secret of it. They do not do exclusive partners and again a major part of that is related to their backstory. And despite how diverse their sex life is, it is not meaningless relationships; Nox very much loves each and every one of their partners, they don't break up with you (major problems excluded) you break up with them.

Idiot Writer Guide to Horse Riding
First thing: horses are not bikes or cars. They are large, emotional animals with opinions. If they don’t trust the rider, everything gets harder.
Mounting is awkward. Even experienced riders don’t look graceful every time. Missing the stirrup happens. Especially under stress.
Riding is physical work. Thighs burn, hands cramp, lower back aches. Beginners feel it in minutes, not hours.
Horses spook. Sudden noises, shadows, smells—anything can set them off. A startled horse doesn’t politely wait for instructions.
Speed has limits. You cannot gallop forever. Horses overheat, tire, and need breaks or they risk injury.
Stopping is not instant. Horses need distance to slow down. Pulling hard just makes things worse.
Terrain matters a lot. Mud, rocks, steep hills, ice, forests, crowds—each changes how fast and safely you can ride.
Falling hurts. Even a short fall can knock the wind out, break bones, or leave a rider stunned and slow to get up.
Horses get injured too. Strained legs, thrown shoes, sore backs—an injured horse may refuse to move at all.
Bond beats skill. A calm horse with a trusting rider is safer than a powerful horse with someone it doesn’t know.
Fear travels both ways. If the rider panics, the horse feels it and reacts.
Long rides leave evidence. Chafing, stiffness, sore muscles, raw hands—nobody rides all day and looks fine.
Talking while riding is hard. Breath bounces, voices break, and shouting is common at faster speeds.
If the rider is unconscious or dead, the horse doesn’t magically keep going toward the destination.
Common Horse Writing Mistakes
Years later it is really amusing how different Mason and Sun are from the rest of the roster. Mason being the closest to human biologically but having a level of alienation both from his social status and vampirism that really emphasizes that he's not human. Whereas Sun is the most non-human (excluding Nul, because Nul is always the exception) but has spent so long among humans that despite being 'weird' he blends in perfectly as just a strange man, the kind of person that everyone is some degree familiar with. Maybe it's the millennia of experience and maybe its something about his angelic nature but he doesn't even put more than a little effort into acting human. Of course for Sun if someone starts poking around where they shouldn't he can just dissuade them with what is essentially a Mind Trick.

It is I, The Birthday Girl
"Happy birthday, darling!" Harmony embraces Mason, then leans in to give him a gentle kiss on the lips. "And Happy Halloween~ You know, I always love the holiday, but this being your birthday is more reason to celebrate!" With that, she lets the prince go, only to take his hand. "Before we go to the party, I want to give you something first."
Mason will feel something slip over his finger. It's a ring, but it's very different from the jewelry he may have. "I had a lot of practice, and I hope it's to your liking." What Mason will find is a golden ring made of wire wrapped around a shining red bead. It's a style of ring that can b made by hand using beads as adornments.
"This is just one small thing from me to you. Your other gift is a surprise for later." Harmony adds with a wink.
"Thank you beloved." Mason turns the ring over in his hand taking note of the lovely wire-basket like cradle for the gem. The dark core of a garnet is always a pleasure to the eye.
A thousand years to find someone like this. Just like the old tales from around the world. Truly he is blessed- in this moment and for life.
Mason twirls his beloved around, slipping the ring around his own finger before pulling Harmony in tight and gazing lovingly into her eyes

Something I never talk about enough is how in universe there is a LOT of long forgotten creatures in the ocean. Most obvious is the Megalodon which Kira gives tours to see on the downlow. But the other beasts are a lot harder to comprehend, imagine you've preformed a deep crash dive in a WW2 submarine hundreds of miles off the west coast of Africa and in that pitch black abyss the hydrophone operator hears this... and you know damn well that isn't a Cetacean.
