Here is my little writeup thing for The Desolation of Smaug, which I saw today! I just tried to write down as much as I can remember, but of course I didn't have the energy to write it all down so I'll just recap some bits and pieces of what I liked. There are a few doodles too, but not many, sorry!
Warning: SPOILERS. Do not read if you don't want to be spoiled. (The above picture is not really a spoiler btw.)
I'm going to see The Desolation of Smaug tomorrow! If anyone was wondering why this blog has no DoS fanart on it yet that's the reason, lol.
Maybe I will do a writeup when I get back...! _(âăΔ:)_
Are you open to do art-trades? :c If not, I'll surely ask you a commisson (if it's possible :c) :cccc
Sorry, I don't really do art trades. u_u
I'm not open for commissions right now, but I may be next month. Stay Tuned. :)
can you draw gimli and legolas again?
I probably will after I've watched the LotR trilogy again! I am going to soon because it's like, mandatory if you're gonna see The Hobbit. XD I actually haven't watched it since this time last year... o_o;
So Iâm kind of in love with the Ed Sheeran song for the Desolation of Smaug soundtrack. Iâm very much a lyric-oriented personâitâs always the first thing I notice, and the aspect of a song I treasure the most if exceptional. And in this case, they are. I looked up the lyrics the moment I heard this song, and I wasnât disappointed.
I realized as I read over the lyrics that the song is told from Thorinâs perspective, and that is what it gives the song its heart. Itâs a haunting reflection on painful memories and an ominous future, a noble people suffering and a leader who remembers it all with aching clarity.
It is a poignant tribute to Thorin, who was present when Smaug attacked his people and watched his homeland burn. And even now as he seeks to reclaim Erebor, the shadow of the past is ever cast upon his thoughts, and the deep sense of foreboding that he will fall to the same darkness that his grandfather did.
As much as he seeks to move forward, he can still feel the heat on his skin, the sight of flames burned onto his retinas, a reminder of all his people lost. And what the song does brilliantly is connect Thorinâs past to his present as he takes his company back to Erebor, foreshadowing that the death Thorin witnessed before may come to fall upon the members of his Company as well. It is a sobering moment for Hobbit fans who know how his and the Heirs of Durinâs story will end.
The lyrics capture beautifully the interweaving of sorrow and hope and desperation that is Thorinâs character and reflect the immense burden he carries for his people. It is his people and his homeland that are the impetus for him moving forward to claim the vision of a future that he dares to pursue.
I See Fire by Ed Sheeran
O misty eye of the mountain below Keep careful watch of my brothersâ souls And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke Keep watching over Durinâs sons If this is to end in fire Then we should all burn together Watch the flames climb higher into the night Calling out father oh, stand by and we will Watch the flames burn on and on The mountainside And if we should die tonight Then we should all die together Raise a glass of wine for the last time Calling out father, oh Prepare as we will Watch the flames burn on and on The mountainside Desolation comes upon the sky Now I see fire Inside the mountain I see fire Burning the trees And I see fire Hollowing souls And I see fire Blood in the breeze And I hope that you remember me Oh, should my people fall then Surely Iâll do the same Confined in mountain halls We got too close to the flame Calling out father, oh Hold fast and we will Watch the flames burn on and on The mountainside Desolation comes upon the sky Now I see fire Inside the mountain I see fire Burning the trees And I see fire Hollowing souls And I see fire Blood in the breeze And I hope that you remember me And if the night is burning I will cover my eyes For if the dark returns then My brothers will die And as the skyâs falling down It crashed into this lonely town And with that shadow upon the ground I hear my people screaming out Now I see fire Inside the mountain I see fire Burning the trees And I see fire Hollowing souls And I see fire Blood in the breeze I see fire (oh you know I saw a city burning) And I see fire (feel the heat upon my skin) And I see fire (fire) And I see fire burn on and on the mountainside
Ohhhh baru, I'm so curious as to what all your favorite hobbit ships are! :'3
OH OH... hm... probably... everyone/Thorin (lol), Bofur/Bilbo... or Kili/Bilbo or Kili/Ori... um... I'm kind of preemptively rooting for an archer!shipping OT4 with Kili/Tauriel/Legolas/Bard in the Desolation of Smaug... I'll captain that lonely ship with all of my heart if it comes down to it... e_e
Thanks for the question! :)
