A DSM for a Dollhouse - Sneak peek
A little snippet of writing as a sneak peek for you guys!! I hope you like it :D
Dr. Rose goes in for a session with a puzzle to do, but Lily doesn't want to participate...
The crisp knock on the door was answered by a very groggy, disheveled Lily, her braids trailing on the floor behind her. She brightened slightly at the sight of the staff that she’d grown used to, and stepped aside to let them in with a yawn.
“What are we doing today?” She blinked owlishly at the nurses puttering around her room, straightening things and making sure everything was in good condition.
Rose noted her significant lack of resistance to the “friends” touching her things: they’d learned the hard way through previous sessions that she didn’t like anything being disturbed, but it seemed like going in when she was still groggy from sleep was better. She made a mental note of this.
Stanton had taken out a puzzle, holding it out for Lily to see. She approved, nodding and clearing the table for space to make it. Rose craned her neck to see the cover of the box, but didn’t get a chance before Lily upended the box and spilled the pieces onto the table with a loud clatter.
The three divided up the puzzle pieces relatively equally, and fell into companionable silence as they spread out and flipped over pieces, a rhythmic clacking becoming the loudest sound in the room. Lily’s hands moved slowly at first, then faster and faster, separating out the edge and corner pieces. Then, she moved to grab some of the pieces in one of Rose’s piles, to which she gently objected.
“Hey, we’re doing this together.”
She sighed and rolled her eyes. “But I want to do moooore.”
“This is a group activity, we’re dividing the work equally.”
Another eye roll and a huff.
“Gracie always let me do everything.”
“I’m not Gracie. If you want more to do, you have to ask nicely.”
Lily huffed, but seemed to accept what she was told. She glanced towards the TV in the corner.
“Can we watch my tapes now? I’m bored.”
“I thought we were having fun?”
“Not anymore.”
“Stay with us another five minutes? We’ve barely started filling the picture in, don’t you want to see it?”
“I saw it on the box already.”
She was getting impatient. Why didn’t they want to watch her tapes with her? If they didn’t want to watch her tapes with her, they had to hate her, and she had to get away from them.
