The goat. History of beasts.1860.
En aquel pequeño burgo sobre un nido de águila se había refugiado el grueso de la Iglesia cátara, un movimiento religioso que hacía una lectura alternativa del mensaje cristiano, absolutamente rechazada por la jerarquía eclesiástica más ortodoxa. Sus seguidores postulaban que el mundo físico era una creación maligna y dominada por el diablo. Por consiguiente, Cristo sólo podía tener una naturaleza fantasmal, nunca componerse de carne y hueso, porque esto último equivaldría a hacerlo partícipe del Demonio. Semejantes postulados cambiaban también el sentido de la venida a la Tierra de Jesús. No aceptaban que hubiera nacido para terminar con el pecado original, sino para explicar cuál debía ser el camino de la liberación. La senda a recorrer por la cual el Hombre habría de trascender su cobertura material y dejar aflorar aquella verdadera dimensión angélica que vivía atrapada dentro de los muros carnales de su ser.
