Though a slight ache had long begun making its way through her ankles, down into the bottoms of her feet, Val held her position, her smile steadfast and unwavering upon her face as she greeted everyone coming through the door. While host and assistant weren’t generally associated with her title, she’d volunteered to help any and everywhere she could as the contestants arrived, knowing that additional hands would be needed in nearly every location. She’d completed the hairstyles, finishing, and polishing of each of the royal family nearly an hour ago, and knowing she had nearly two before she neeed to begin tracking them down for dinnertime adjustments to their looks, she’d made her way to the front of the palace. 

“Hello!” Her posture was as relaxed as it could be, while still remaining welcoming and professional, and her smile stretched from ear to ear. “Welcome! We’re so glad you could make it! My name is Valerie, but you can call me Val, sug, everyone does. You’ll want to put your bags right there-” She raised a manicured finger to indicate an ever-growing pile forming along the far wall. “-Before heading into that room right over there. That’s where your orientation will be held. You can pick up your things after you’ve gotten all your introductory information. Where is it that you’re coming from?”

benjamin had been late, as usual. it wasn’t the ideal start for the first day on a job, but well... he was here now, and ready to get to work. he darted up the stairs, eager to avoid being spotted by the producers, when he heard someone speaking directly to him. 

“why thank you, val!” he said with a grin, feeling a bit relieved that things hadn’t completely started yet. “nothing like a first day on the job, right?” he threw his backpack carelessly into the pile before turning back to her. “i’m benjamin, part of the camera crew team.” he shrugged with a laugh as he looked into the palace. “i have to say, i’ve never shot anything in a place this grand. and never done a reality show either.” but he quickly backtracked when he realized he sounded inexperienced. “but i’ve done plenty of other things, my camerawork is unmatched... in case you’re one of the producers i haven’t met - are you a producer, by any chance?”

“hopefully you’ve settled into your quarters nicely. now, i’m afraid i have a full schedule for the rest of the day, but i can squeeze in one quick tour of the grounds if you’d like,” rosalind greets with a pleasant smile, picture perfect and polished as usual. it’s an easy performance. “was there a particular room you’d like to see?”  //  @selectionstarters​

benjamin grinned at rosalind’s formalities, nodding along enthusiastically at her speech. “one quick tour would be great,” he replied, eyes wide as he took in the grand palace. “but i think you’ll need to be as thorough as possible,” benjamin said with a mock tone of seriousness. “as a cameraman, i will need to know every nook and cranny of this place, so that i can find the best angles and shed the royal family in the best light.” he shook his head in despair. “wouldn’t want them to miss anything important, right?”

( andrew garfield, cis male, he/him.) the selection committee is happy to have benjamin keating as a member of staff. he is thirty-eight years old, a taurus, and working as a cameraman this selection.. their aesthetic is untucked shirts and messy hair; animated support from behind the camera. (played by emily, twenty-six, pst, she/her) 

welcome the wiz kid behind the camera, benjamin keating! though you could hardly call him a kid any longer, he is determined to act like one, regardless of any annoyed glances sent his way. ben has spent the past twenty years determined to be a star director, but determination only gets you so far... and well, he isn’t exactly what you’d refer to as a workaholic. 

to back up, benjamin grew up loving old films. he’d spend hours copying down lists from afi’s top 100 movies, then scouring blockbusters to find each one. were all of them appropriate for an eight year old? probably not, but ben didn’t care, and wouldn’t let that stop him. 

he went to film school against his parent’s advice, and found solace amongst the other creative students. the years flew by; memories of midnight ice cream and beer in the foley studio, nail-biting peer reviews of short films, field trips to major studios, lectures from star producers... benjamin still daydreams of his college years, longing for the freedom he once had. 

but college is only meant to be temporary, and real life slapped benjamin in the face when he graduated with only an unpaid internship lined up. for two years he made measly pay as an assistant, and then bounced around jobs for countless years. 

he managed to get into indie filmmaking, and has been directing indie dramas and short films for the past few years. but it has stopped paying the bills, and his small apartment just feels more like a jail cell each day. his bank account is drained, his prospects are dry, and when he found out about the open cameraman position, he jumped on it (and maybe used his sister lulu’s name to get his foot in the door). so now he’s here, on some show he’s never really heard of, but he’s for a good time, and to make a little dough on the side.
