‘Pics or it didn’t happen’ – the mantra of the Instagram era
Sharing itself becomes personhood, with activities taking on meaning not for their basic content but for the way they are turned into content, disseminated through the digital network, and responded to.
[cf An Elixir of Reminding: “Nostalgia is the negation of death, it proves we are still living even without an identifiable future. Instagram is a machine for producing instant nostalgia, a ward against death.”]

The murders of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Sam Shepherd, and countless thousands of others at the hands of American law enforcement are not aberrations, or betrayals, or departures. The acquittals of their killers are not mistakes. There is no virtuous innermost America, sullied or besmirched or shaded by these murders. This is America. It is not broken. It is doing what it does. America is a serial brutalizer of black and brown people. Brutalizing them is what it does. It does other things, too, yes, but brutalizing black and brown people is what it has done the most, and with the most zeal, and for the longest.

DONATE TO THE FERGUSON PUBLIC LIBRARY AND GET AN EXCLUSIVE 3-TRACK CHAMBALAND EP
This week has been bad, no worse for anybody than the community of Ferguson, MO. Through the protests, militarized police presence, and school closures, the Ferguson Public Library has kept its doors open, offering classes, internet access, and a safe space to a community in chaos- and you can help them!
Make a donation through the library’s PayPal page, and I’ll send you a special mixtape. And I mean hey, even if you support Darren Wilson, you can still rest easy supporting a community library as you stand on the wrong side of history!
HOW TO GET THIS EP:
- Make a donation for any dollar amount to the Ferguson Public Library. (Their PayPal is in the upper right hand corner of the page; if you’ve already donated, that’s cool too.)
- Take a screenshot of your confirmation email and send it to [email protected]
- I send you an exclusive 3-track Chambaland EP with some unreleased, never-heard tracks.
As its nearly Thanksgiving, it might take me a few hours to get back to you, but you’ll get your EP within 24hrs max. ITS THAT EASY. DO IT.
