bennie was born the middle child of moderately successful theatrical artist parents in new york city. her mother was a broadway chorus dancer and former ballerina, while her father was a respected and constantly employed understudy who never quite made the position of leading man.
around the age of two and a half it was discovered that bennie was gifted with perfect pitch and a powerful voice for song. by the age of three her parents had enrolled her voice lessons, by five she was doing talent shows and local commercials. by six she was doing off-broadway shows and by seven she was appearing as gretel in a broadway production of 'the sound of music'
her real big break came at the age of eleven when she landed the coveted title roll of 'annie' in a big budget revival. her face was all over the city -- glowing on the marquee and in time square. all the reviews were raves, most praising the energy of the child star and the power of her voice. bennie became one of the youngest tony nominees in history (though did end up losing). she managed to hold onto the part until she was thirteen -- when she was gently let go because it was deemed that she had ''outgrown" the part
being forced out of 'annie' led to a very complicated relationship between bennie and her developing body (her 'almond mom' stage mother absolutely didn't help matters). bennie developed bulimia, which went undetected off and on for several years in various degrees of severity.
after notable broadway runs in shows such as 'into the woods', 'bye,bye,birdie' and 'peter pan', bennie began to notice a change in her vocal range and pain and strain when hitting certain notes. after several doctors visits to various specialists it was determined that from the combined effects of her bulimia and constant overworking of her voice bennie had done irreparable damage to her greatest gift. even after surgery her voice was never the same and she was forced to retire from her professional broadway career at the age of seventeen
trying to cling to some sense of familiarity, bennie applied to attend college at UCLA to see if she could hack it as some sort of professional screen actress. at her first open call she experienced her first panic attack and after several more she had dropped out of college by the end of her sophomore year.
feeling like a failure and too ashamed to return to new york but not enough money to stay in LA, bennie moved herself down to the more affordable aurora bay. she gets monthly checks from her childhood work savings, but to cover the rest she works as many hours as she can at the local pizza place.
she's just beginning a fledgling stand-up career after a tiktok of her first time at an open mic did decent numbers, but she plays that close to the chest.
