Kang Taehyun was a calm man. Known to be level headed and cool in any situation. Sworn into the Kings Guard at the age of 18. Sworn to protect his country, a dream he has carried since he was five years old. Nothing much could shake him.
People around him respected him but kept their distance. Something in his eyes. Also being a member of one of the closest families to the Throne made them wary.
He and the Crown Prince had grown up together. Taehyun could’ve been a Viscount, a Baron or even a Lord. Yet, he wanted to be a part of the Kings Guard. There were rumours that he would be Hand of the King once Choi Soobin ascended to the Throne.
Taehyun’s life was progressing exactly as he had predicted. A neat line. Until he was bestowed with the duty of being your personal guard. You. The Princess, second in line to the Throne. In other words, the bane of his existence.
Taehyun wondered whether those words ever meant anything to you. Second in line to the throne. That due to some unforeseen horrifying circumstance you might someday be the ruler of the Kingdom.
From the moment you were able to think, you had made it your personal agenda to undermine him. Your sharp intellect paired with your constant brattiness made every conversation he had with you a miserable affair. You questioned everything. Everything that he believed in.
Taehyun had known peace only after your father, the King, had decided to send you away to your Aunt so that you could learn to be a Lady. Someone who would finally act like someone fit for her position. You were gone from his life for three years. Life almost seemed normal to him albeit a slight ache in his heart. An ache that some might call missing.
Except now you were back. Gone was the scrawny little girl with cracked lips and nervous hands. What now stood before him was more dangerous. A woman.
Taehyun, promoted to a Chief now, hoped your brain had grown as much as your body. That you would now begin behaving properly. In a way fit for a Princess to act.
Wrong.
He should have sensed something was wrong the moment the General approached him with the proposition of being your personal guard. Initially he had refused. And yet the General persisted. Implied only he would be able to do the job perfectly. And that had worked as an ego boost. Wrong move.
From day one and a very eventful day indeed it was you had shown nothing but complete disregard to his acts of protection he was almost convinced that you were trying to either get him fired or get yourself killed. He didn’t know which one was worse.
You snuck past his guards after midnight, showing up the day after with muddied gowns and hair that distinctly smelled like hay and sometimes adorned with wild flowers. The Queen Mother would come down to visit and Taehyun would have to build up the most inane excuse as to why you were currently not attending your piano lessons. On more than one occasion he had caught you climbing up through the window to your bedroom.
And yet he never cracked. Never once complained. He would just add in another layer of security. This would lead to a few days of you giving him the cold shoulder until you figured out a way through his iron fist of security.
He wondered how you would react to his latest move, smiling to himself at the thought of your face.
-.-
Your perfume greets Taehyun before he even gets sight of you. That fresh/ floral smell you carry with you no matter where you went.
Taehyun rounds the corner to your bedchamber. You stand with your back to him. Without even realising it, Taehyun admires your posture for a second. You stand tall with your hands clasped behind your back. Your long hair undone.
You seem to be arguing with the guard beside your door. The one he had kept to ensure you wouldn’t wander around at night.
“Hand me the key now!”
“I’m sorry Madam- but- I don’t - “ Jungwon stutters, obviously intimidated by you.
“I-I-“ you mock “Stop mumbling and hand me the key or risk being fired” you tell Jungwon.
Jungwon glances around nervously before noticing Taehyun and his entire posture changes. He stands up straight, hands in salute. “Sir!”
“Relax” Taehyun tells him. He liked Jungwon. He was hardworking and seemed to be doing a much better job than your previous guards.
You turn around at the sound of Taehyuns voice. He is wearing that annoying smirk on. The one that suggests he is better than you and that you are being unreasonable.
“Would you mind explaining to me what the newest installation in my room means?” You ask Taehyun, crossing your arms and trying to look as tall as him.
Taehyun smiles to himself. It had taken a little bit of shrewd thinking to actually make it work.
“Princess, you had called for me?” he responds dropping his head in a bow. You roll your eyes at him. This was his slight reminder on how you should be acting with him.
“I’m not sure what you’re referring to-“ he starts before you drag him into your chambers.
“That one! What do you mean by it?” You tell him pointing at the bars he had installed on your windows while you were away at your piano lessons.
“Ah!” Taehyun replies in mock realisation. “Yes, I had them installed just today morning”
You round up around him. “Give me the key”
“No”
“Give them!” You tell him holding out your hand in protestation.
“So that you can go out again? And risk your life doing God knows what?” He laughs out.
You assess him for a moment. Taehyun was a smart man. The bars to your window were padlocked and you knew for a fact that Taehyun had the key. It was no use complaining about him to your parents. Whatever the man did, they believed he had your best interests at heart. And maybe he did. But that didn’t mean he could get to control where and when you go out.
Taehyun looks back at you with equal defiance. Fighting him was not going to work.
“Tyun… please” you beg him. “I promise I won’t sneak out at night” you tell him stepping closer to him as he takes a step back.
“As if” he mutters underneath his breath. “Princess, you are not fooling me this time” he tells you without even looking at you.
You take another step towards him catching hold of his arm. “Please… I won’t be able to see the stars through these bars.”
Taehyun looks down at you. It’s a mistake. You were doing that thing. Pouting. With your chest angled towards him in a way that showed him a brief of your delicious cleavage. Many a guard had fallen for this. Taehyun scoffs. Weak men, he tells himself, wiping the sweat on his brow.
“A no means no, Princess” he tells you moving away. “Good day” he tells you hurrying out your room.
“I will find someone who will pick them for me!” You shout after him.
“Good luck, my Princess” he shouts back.
You grind your teeth and fall back onto your bed. You were getting that key. No matter what.
-.-
“Can you atleast pretend like you’re listening to what im saying here?” Beomgyu huffs out.
You were lain back on the sofa, feet spread and head resting on the cushion. Piano lessons were your favourite for the fact that Beomgyu let you do whatever as long as you nodded away to his gossip.
You sigh again and Beomgyu roll his eyes.
“And what might be bothering the Princess right now?” Beomgyu drawls out and you look at him with narrowed eyes.
“I already told you to not call me that and you know very well what’s bothering me!”
Beomgyu hides his smile. He was used to your tantrums. He was fond of you if not for your sharp mouth then for the skilled pianist you were. You didn’t need him. As you had proved in your first lesson. This was just a way for you to escape your duties and the kitty parties your mother forced you to attend.
“I might know a way…” Beomgyu tells you after a beat of silence.
You quirk you brow at him.
“I already tried lock picking, it doesn’t work”
“No. Get me a copy of that lock. We could build a key based on it” Beomgyu tells you, knocking your feet of the sofa and dropping down beside you.
That has your attention. You sit up beside him with hopeful eyes.
“No promises though” he tells you quickly and you nod your head at him vigorously just as the doors burst open.
Taehyun takes note of what’s before him, you and Beomgyu sitting closer than what’s deemed proper. His eyes focus on the way yours clutch Beomgyu’s arm. Just as it had clutched his own today morning.
Beomgyu jumps up immediately “Chief! What’s wrong? What brings you here?”
“Don’t you know to knock?” You ask him not even bothering to get up or sit properly. Taehyun narrows his eyes at you.
“The Crown Prince has requested an audience with you…”
“Why would he want to meet me for?” You ask him haughtily.
“He does not, Princess. He has requested an audience with Mr. Choi” Taehyun replies with a small smile.
You feel yourself getting a little red.
“But we are having piano lessons right now! Can’t it wait?” You ask. Taehyun raises his eyebrows at you. “Sir..?” You add in
“As much as I hate to disrupt this intense session” Beomgyu snorts and tries to pass it off as a cough “the Crown Prince has informed me it’s urgent” Taehyun finishes off.
“Fine” you grumble getting up.
“Princess, don’t forget what we talked about” Beomgyu tells you as you start towards the door.
You look back to see Taehyun watching you suspiciously and you try to hide your smile as you nod at Beomgyu.
“Thank you Sir” you curtsy and step out, almost sensing Taehyuns brain trying to work out what exactly you have afoot.
-.-
Things have been calm with you for over a week now and that should’ve been Taehyuns first warning bell. He was surprised at how docile you were being. You were not giving the guards any trouble. You were at your lessons on time. He didn’t know what to make of this subdued energy.
You were scheming. Trying to find a way to get a copy of the lock. You had an inkling of an idea but you were stuck on how to execute it. You hadn’t been out for your nightly excursions for over a week now.
“The Princess has put in a request for what?” Taehyun asked roughly. The servant boy stood before him nervously.
“Wax… for her seal…Sir” he repeated nervously. Taehyun considered this. It was not unusual for you to make weird requests but he couldn’t understand the point of getting wax. Was it a new beauty trend of some sort?
“I will consider it” Taehyun tells the boy dismissively.
-.-
“What is the delay in getting me some wax?”
Taehyun assessed you for a moment. Hands on your hips, face twisted into exasperation. This doesn’t seem to be one of your tricks.
“I couldn’t figure out what you would possibly want it for” Taehyun blurts out.
“What?”
“What I meant was- why would you need wax?” Taehyun strays off. Your eyebrows have nearly touched your hairline and he feels foolish. A beat of silence passes between you two.
“Do I have to indulge you with every single little detail of my life? What’s next - a peek into my underwear drawer?” Taehyun reddens immediately and you have to suppress your smile “I’ll have you be reminded what exactly your position here is Kang Taehyun”
“I-“ Taehyun starts feeling absolutely mortified.
“No. I do not care for your explanations. Bring me a pot of wax or have me buy it myself!” you slam the door shut on his face.
-.-
The key sits before you.
You take in a deep breath to ground yourself. Finally. After all those painstaking hours you got your freedom.
Beomgyu couldn’t help but grin at your exhilaration. You look at him with sparkling eyes. You wait a moment before throwing both your arms around him.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t thank you enough!” You tell him.
Beomgyu stands there taken aback before slowly wrapping his arms around you. “It’s no problem Princess” he mumbles. This was definitely a violation of a million etiquette’s but you didn’t seem to care.
You pull apart, eyes back on the key. You drop it into your bag and not a moment sooner Jungwon enters to take you back to your chambers.
-.-
The meeting room is tense. Every guard on alert. Taehyun feels the adrenaline coursing through him. He knows this to be a serious affair yet he cannot help but feel exhilarated. This was his element.
“As summarised, we have received reports of a possible invasion that could happen any time in this week” the General looks up from the maps. “We are alert and ready to face anything. Nothing has occurred so far but I implore you to not ease up. Ensure that the assets stay protected and within vicinity. We require an all time view on the family” he concludes.
Each Chief relays the position of his asset. Every single member of the Royal Family is accounted for. Taehyun reports that you are safely in your bed chamber and Jungwon backs him up. Guards are stationed in and around the palace. The meeting stands dismissed.
Taehyun and the General walk back together to his Office. The tension in the air is almost palpable.
“I know it’s not exactly easy to manage the Princess. But you have been coping very well with the responsibility. I’m proud” the General tells him with a pat to his shoulder.
Taehyun stands up straighter. Seungcheol was not simply the General he was also Taehyun’s mentor. Someone he looks upto. Someone known to never give out a compliment just for the sake of it.
“Thank you Sir, I-I will continue to do my best” he stutters out. Taehyun sympathises with Jungwon in his mind, briefly.
The General has a hint of a smile before he heads of to his office. Taehyun is also planning on going back to his but he has to first check in on Jungwon and ofcourse his asset.
Taehyun feels his stomach dropping the moment he rounds the corner. Jungwon is in quick conversation with another guard and the room to your bed chamber is thrown open.
“What’s wrong?” He asks running upto them.
“Sir- I- “ Jungwon stammers, “the Princess, she was here. I promise- but I can’t - She is missing”
Taehyun can already feel the headache building up in the back of his brain. He steps into your empty room and sure enough the bars to the window are unlocked!
that’s the end of pt.1 :) pls pls pls lmk your thoughts on this any comment/reblog/like is much appreciated. xoxo
warning(s): established relationship, heartbreak, hurt
a/n: this is a small fic i worked on while finishing up my taehyun fic. it’s inspired by my personal experiences, hope you guys enjoy :)
“What.”
You try to process what your boyfriend just told you.
Soobin looks up at you. His eyes are still etched in that smile. Mind not yet caught up with the fact that he said something wrong.
“…lying on my bed” he trails off unsure of himself now.
There is a distinct ringing in your ears.
“You mean to tell me you and this Jisoo slept on the same bed.” Your voice rises just a little pitch higher.
Soobin looks at you again. His face morphs into disappointment. You knew that look well. The one that precedented the lecture on how you are being toxic to him.
Choi Jisoo. Soobin’s latest friend. You’ve heard stories about her. Stories he himself had told you. Before she had become his friend. You have seen pictures of her. Cozying upto a new guy every month. She was prettier, cooler and well way better than you.
“It’s not like we slept together” he tells you patiently “We just slept in the same bed… that’s all”
“And I’m supposed to believe that nothing more happened” you almost laugh. “That’s what you said about the picture too”
“You’re still stuck on that?” He asks you now no longer feigning to be cool about this.
The picture. The one that that had led to a big fight between the two of you. The one she put as her story and the one that Soobin reposted. Also the one where she was basically hugging him, her head on his shoulder and him leaning down towards the top of her head with a drunken smile. Stupid.
He had argued that it was just a drunk picture, one that friends usually take. Soobin had that quality to him. To make any situation rational. To make himself sound rational and you to be the crazy one.
“Listen. She was over at our house. It was a party and she was drunk out of her mind. What was I supposed to do, kick her out in that state?”
“No. Make her sleep on the couch” you mutter
“Theo and James were already on the couch”
“Were no other rooms available?”
“Yeonjun had a girl with him and you know Taehyun! He locks his door before he goes home” Soobin tells you exasperatedly.
You don’t know what to say anymore. Somewhere in your brain you knew this was wrong. You just didn’t know how to articulate it. Surely this scenario could’ve played out any other way than the one where she ended up on his bed.
Soobin takes your silence for acceptance. As an invitation. “You don’t trust me do you?”
“It’s not a question of trust. You know that”
“Ofcourse it is! You have issues of your own and you’re projecting them onto me. I’m sick of it”
You glance up at him. Hurt.
Soobin goes on, “You didn’t even show up to the party-“
“Because I had to prepare for my exams Soob!”
“You always have exams. Always preparing for it and where exactly do you end up?” Soobin no longer knows how to stop. He knows he has said too much. You look at him disbelievingly. “Maybe you should be doing something else”
You feel sick. He was the last person you would’ve expected to hear that from. Sure, this was your third attempt but also this was one of the toughest exams in the country. He knew how much you had struggled with facing them again. Despite the pressure from your family you had stuck on to your dream but now it almost feels hopeless. Nobody believed in you.
You swallow thickly. Not knowing how to reply.
“Maybe we should take a break” Soobin tells you quietly. There it was again. Break. You hated that word. It was his solution for everything. As if you could just bear to part with him as simple as that.
It is also a word that is enough to bring you to your senses.
“No.” You reply “No Soob, I’m sorry. I- I overreacted” you try your hardest to keep your voice steady. He hated it when you cried. “I was just stressed out from everything and I took it out on you - I’m sorry” please don’t leave me. You add in your mind.
Soobin just shakes his head. Irritated. You both sit there in awkward silence. You can feel Soobin slipping away from you. Like he has been in the last three months. Ever since he has shifted to the city. You had known long distance would be difficult. But it was only temporary. You would clear your exams and move in with him. That was the plan. Except you didn’t. A day didn’t go by without you feeling guilty about it. Which is why you visited him whenever you could. Even if it meant losing a few precious hours of study.
Soobin was your world. The one you had been building for the last five years. He was yours and you were his. There was not a question about it for you. He was your best friend. He was the one who taught you how to drive. He was the one to take your virginity. He was your home. You were endgame. Now, you begin to wonder if it’s the same for him.
There was a time where he couldn’t bear to spend more than an hour without talking to you. He could talk for hours around you. You were his sounding board. The one whose opinion mattered the most. His best friend. He knew you inside out.
You can’t remember the last time he had simply just smiled at you. How did things get so bad between the two of you? Even asking for fifteen minutes on the phone felt like you were taking him away from his friends. From his fun. You don’t know how much more of yourself to fold up to fit around him.
Exhaustion creeps up on you. You knew you would cry yourself to sleep tonight. You wonder how long it would take him to forgive you for this.
You look over at Soobin and he too seems lost in thought. Steeling yourself you reach over to take his hand in yours. Soobin looks at you, lips set to a thin line.
“Please. I’m sorry. I don’t want a break. Let’s just forget about this Soob” you tell him squeezing his hand.
Soobin regards you for a moment. He too seems tired.
“Okay” he tells you letting go of your hand.

“And you thought this would be a good idea ?!” you huff out pulling on one end of the tent.
“Shut up” Beomgyu mutters from somewhere on the other side. “Tiktok made me believe it was a good idea to go camping with your friends”
The sun sat on top of your heads and the heat was unbearable. Beomgyu had picked you up today morning for a surprise hangout. Little did you know, he was trying to grill you alive.
“Gyu are you really pitching it back there ?” You shout at him.
“Yes you- ahhh” you hear him shout and you rush out to the other side, letting the tent collapse.
“What- what is it?” You ask frantically while Beomgyu jumps about.
“A big fucking giant ass bug just flew in- THERE IT IS” he screams hiding behind you. You look carefully and you notice a beetle making its way towards your boot. You give it a stomp and kick it away. Now, you were not one to kill insects but you knew Beomgyu wouldn’t calm down unless he was sure it was gone.
“There, it’s gone” you sigh while he continues to hover behind your shoulder.
“My saviour” he says and looks at you with such admiration that you feel less annoyed with him.
“Let’s watch that YouTube video again” you tell him and huddle over his phone together.
Somehow it’s always been like this. Beomgyu and you had been best friends since, god knows how long. You knew his fears and likes like the back of your hand. He was loud and obnoxious and annoyed you to no end, but Beomgyu had a sensitive side to him, which was why you stuck with him. Once Beomgyu liked you, he stuck to you like gum.
-.-
It’s almost evening by the time you set up the tent and you both sit outside completely exhausted.
“I can’t believe we will have to take it all down in a couple of hours” you mutter.
“Shh… let’s not talk about that and honestly I think it might actually collapse before we have to dismantle it” Beomgyu tells you placing a finger on your lips and you look at him.
Sometimes it hurts to see how beautiful he is, inside out. But Beomgyu always looked like he had no clue about it which irritated you. He could have girls and guys swooning over him and yet be completely oblivious to it.
College began in a week and the summer break was almost coming to its end.
Your friends would often joke about how Beomgyu and you would ‘breakup’ once college starts and sometimes it would get to you, you couldn’t imagine a life without him.
Beomgyu had surprised you with his college application though. He didn’t tell you but he had applied to your same college and had got in, for which you felt extremely grateful for. College in itself would be a scary experience, and you thank god you’d have Beomgyu by your side.
-.-
“What would you do without me ?” Beomgyu laughs as he grills the meat. You patiently wait for it beside him, your only job being cooking the ramen. You were a terrible chef and ramen was your only saving grace.
“Hey! I have all the other talents just not cooking” you huff out. “Besides I have you to grill my meat Chef Choi”
“Hmm” he murmurs “I’m going to ignore the inuendos there” and you slap his shoulder.
“Think about it, you can do the cooking and I’ll keep the bugs away” you tell him and Beomgyu smiles.
The sun was setting and despite your complaints you had a great view of the sunset. It was pretty and healing and you felt drunk in coziness.
“Have you talked to your roommate yet ?” Beomgyu asks you. You had gotten separate dorms and Beomgyu had already taken a liking to his roommate. You on the other hand was terrified of reaching out.
“I’ll figure it out” you mutter at him. You had seen her photo and she looked pretty intimidating.
“I’ll text her for you, hand me your phone” he tells you holding out his gloved hand.
“Fuck no” you say. You were a coward, not a loser. “Gyu don’t worry about it, I do much better in real life, than online” you tell him.
“Alright” he tells you going back to the grilling, “I don’t get it” he says.
“What ?” You ask him, opening the ramen pot. It was close to being done.
“You are shy around everyone else but me” he huffs out.
“That’s because I’ve known you since I was three” you remind him. It was true. Beomgyu was the only person around whom you could breathe easy and let yourself be. You had terrible social anxiety and if it weren’t for him you are pretty sure you wouldn’t have any friends.
Beomgyu cuts up the pieces of meat while you turn off the stove and pour the ramen into the bowls. You hand Beomgyu the chopsticks before sitting down beside him.
There is a few moments of comfortable silence as you slurp down your noodles. Beomgyu seems lost in thought and you let him be.
-.-
It’s almost 7 by the time you wrap up the dishes. You wait outside your tent, which had collapsed only once before you managed to put it up again, with your coffee.
“This was fun” you tell Beomgyu softly.
“Yeah” he says. He’s been awfully quiet since dinner and you wondered what happened.
“What’s wrong ?” you finally ask him nudging his shoulder so that he’d look at you.
“Nothings wrong” he tells you but you continue looking at him and he rolls his eyes. “Well, don’t I ever make you nervous?” he huffs out.
You blink back in surprise. He was still thinking about that ? Beomgyu didn’t make you nervous… he made you flustered.
“Uh… not really” you tell him, trying to diffuse the growing tension.
Beomgyu leans in closer and you look away, “Not even a little ?” he whispers and you shiver a bit.
“No” you tell him pushing him away but he doesn’t budge. Beomgyu leans closer still and you have no option but to look at him.
“Not even when I do this ?” He asks you cupping your cheeks and squishing them, making your lips pout while you shake your head in disagreement. You can feel the heat on your face.
“You can’t lie to save your own life” Beomgyu grins and you hide your face in embarrassment. Beomgyu pulls your hands away from your face, holding it in his own and you look down.
Beomgyu tips up your chin to make you look at him and he has the widest grin. “You are cute” he tells you before leaning away and you try to steady your rising heart rate.
“And I like you” he adds. “Maybe even disgustingly L word you”
“What?” You ask in surprise.
“I thought it was pretty obvious” he tells you in his own casual way, while you try to figure out what just happened.
“Wait” you tell him, turning his face so he’d look at you. “You like me?”
“Duh” he replies, trying to look calm and collected but you can tell he is nervous taking note of his pink ears. You smile at him and then nod your head.
“Aren’t you going to say it back ?” Beomgyu whines and you shrug your shoulder.
“Well if it’s so obvious, why should I ?” You tease and Beomgyu pouts at you, “Come on, just say it” Beomgyu huffs and you almost laugh.
Beomgyu turns away in annoyance and the sight is so familiar to you, that it fills you with warmth. Even when you were kids, Beomgyu would pout and turn away to not look at you when you fought. Sulky boy.
“Hey” you call him tapping his shoulder, but he refuses to look at you.
“Beomgyuu” you whine pulling on his jacket, “Ofcourse I like you too” you tell him shaking his shoulder.
“You are just saying that” he mutters looking at the trees.
“Come on look at me” you tell him pulling on his arm and he finally turns to you.
“I like you too you dork” you tell him, holding his face and the tiniest of smiles play on his lips.
“And do I make you nervous ?” Beomgyu asks you.
“You make me wild” you tell him, leaning in giving him a soft kiss on his cheeks.
Beomgyu turns your head to capture your lips. The kiss is so soft and gentle and Beomgyu cradles your head and holds you like you are the most precious thing ever.
You lean away and look at Beomgyu again. He is full on smiling and his whisker dimples are so cute that you can’t help but kiss his cheeks again.
There is a sound of a crash and you both turn around. The tent had managed to collapse again.
So much for a romantic ending to your day.
-.-
EPILOGUE-
Beomgyu sits in his room, scrolling through TikTok’s. College started in a week and he thinks this would be the perfect time to confess to you. He just doesn’t know how.
Beomgyu knew you would hate it if he did something big. And he doesn’t want to do something clichè. He had asked his friends and all of them gave ideas which got progressively more worse.
Beomgyu sighs and continues scrolling. He passes a few when he comes across a TikTok of a couple on their camping trip and a bulb turns on in his head.
Camping. Sounds perfect. Except he didn’t have any equipment. Maybe Kai would have something.
And maybe, just maybe things would work out.

w/c: 2k
a/n: writers block is a bitch. but it’s here (finally!!!). i know i say this about all my fics but i genuinely enjoy working on atcy. happy reading :))
You rarely felt disoriented when you woke up and so you were very confused about the heavy weight on your stomach and the cramp growing on your neck.
You sit up groggily. It’s still night out, atleast judging by the clock. You try to focus on the time. 11:00 p.m.
Yeonjun lays sprawled on top of you and it takes you a moment before you jump up from the couch.
“Shit, shit, shit” you clutch your head. Your anxiety is through the roof. The power was back on and your candle was nearly burned out. You curse yourself for your carelessness.
Quickly blowing out your candles you try shaking Yeonjun awake
“Come on! Wake up”
“Huh-“ Yeonjun slowly sits up, rubbing his eyes. He slowly wakes up and smiles at you.
“Hi”
“Hi???” You stare at him in disbelief.
“SHIT!” Yeonjun yells, jumping up. He whips around to look at the clock and nearly faints. Yeonjun searches around on the couch for his phone. 5 missed calls from him Mom.
“Fuck” he mutters, holding his head in his hand. “My mom is gonna kill me”
You quickly gather around his things, stuffing them into his bag. “It’s alright- just, just tell her you were up late studying.” You tell him in a what you hope is a reassuring tone.
“Easy for you to say. She would go crazy if she knew where I was right now.” Yeonjun tells you grabbing his backpack from you and pacing about. You pause.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You ask him, crossing your hands. Easy for you?
“No- what I meant was you don’t have anyone to answer to- i mean-“ Yeonjun starts. Everything he tries to say comes out wrong.
You look back at him, stricken.
“Y/N- listen-“ he starts again.
“It’s late, you should get going.” You tell him calmly. Blood rushes through your ears. Deafening almost.
“I didn’t mean-“ Yeonjun takes a step towards you.
“Please” you tell him, turning away.
Yeonjun feels helpless. He is late. His mom is probably worried sick. He doesn’t know what exactly to say to you.
You hear the door close behind you. You knew this was bound to happen. It had almost seemed too good to be true. What were you thinking?
You kick away the lone cushion lying down back on the couch. Nobody to see the lone tear that has escaped.
-.-
It was easy enough to avoid Yeonjun. You rarely had anything in common which was nice considering how thinks went down. You took great lengths to ensure that your paths never crossed. A fine plan. Working finely atleast for the last week.
Except for being lab partners. You ignored Yeonjun’s gaze on you as much as you could. You pretended not to hear him. If you tried hard enough you could almost pretend like he was invisible. (But this was Choi Yeonjun and that is a near impossible task).
You knew you were being too much. He had apologised and besides it was not even that serious. But something in you, your pride, was not letting it go.
“You cannot keep skipping lunch” Ryujin sighs as she sits down next to you. You had an hour for lunch break and lately you had been killing it here on the football ground, right below the stands.
“Thank you” you tell her accepting the sandwich gratefully. “Besides, it’s only temporary”
Ryujin raises her eyebrows at you in question. “I mean- he will soon move on” you tell her in between gulps.
“You really are dense. Move on? What is he? Your boyfriend??” Ryujin shakes her head at you.
You roll your eyes at her.
“Seriously. You can rush out of lab everytime but what about me? He has been needling me. Incessantly” she tells you. “You need to let go of your ego”
“Me?” You scoff at her. “He is an impossible prick. I regret ever having even talked to him”
“And what did he do so wrong??” Ryujin throws her hand up in the air.
You glare at her. “I can’t believe you’re on his side on this.”
“I’m not on his side! I wish you would at least hear him out. He panicked. You know how people say dumb shit when they are not in their right minds, right?” Ryujin argues with you while you stuff the last of your sandwich into your mouth. “Not everyone is waiting around to bail on you Y/N”
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore” you tell her getting up not quite processing her words.
You can see the arguments forming on her lips.
“Ryu, please.”
“Fine. Go ahead. Be a dick.”
“Thank you”
-.-
“So we are back to square one huh” Taehyun asks snidely as he passes the ball to Yeonjun.
Yeonjun doesn’t bother with a reply. You barely even looked at him anymore. What more could hurt him?
“Cut it out, Tyun” Soobin scolds as he runs past. Yeonjun misses his shot yet again.
“Break” he says, dropping down on to the ground. Yeonjun can feel the other boys looking at him. His form has been terrible the last few days.
Yeonjun stares at his shoes for a while. He had spent almost an year trying to get you to talk to him and the last one week trying to find out how he could fuck that up so badly. How could he say those things to you?
“Listen, give her space. She will come around” Sobbin tells him quietly.
“She doesn’t even miss me” Yeonjun mumbles, pathetically.
Soobin looks at Yeonjun for a minute before passing a glance at Taehyun.
“Actually-“ he starts and Yeonjun snaps his head up so quickly that Soobin has to fight down his smirk.
“Actually, what?”
“I think she misses you too.” Soobin tells him.
“You’re just saying that” Yeonjun says trying not to get his hopes up.
“She called me by your name” Soobin tells him. “She has also been so absent minded that she nearly earned a detention yesterday”
“What?”
“And she keeps stealing glances at you when you are not looking” Taehyun adds.
“Why didn’t you guys tell me all this before?” Yeonjun huffs out.
“Thought I’d let you suffer for a little. It’s not common to see the famous Choi Yeonjun being rejected” Soobin giggles.
Yeonjun gives a shove to the other boy with no real force his mind racing a 1000 miles an hour.
You miss him?
-.-
The summer was turning out to be the hottest one yet. The occasional downpour only raised the humidity levels. Jin’s dinner basically felt like hell on earth these days.
“There is someone here to see you” Beomgyu tells you.
Your stomach nearly drops to the ground when you realise it’s for you. She can’t be back that soon right?
Jin looks over at you concerned. “Who is it?”
Beomgyu shrugs his shoulders in reply. “I don’t know”
The little prick. You drown out Jin’s reprimands as you wipe down your hands at the front of your apron before making your way to the back door.
The cool night air hits your face as you open the door.
Yeonjun.
Relief floods through you. It’s not her. You’re so happy that you even forget to look mad at him.
Yeonjun notices the way your shoulders ease up. This could be a good sign.
“Y/N-“ he starts.
“Why are you here? Are you stalking me?” You ask him.
“How is it stalking when it was you who told me where you worked??” Yeonjun wonders out loud. This was a bad approach.
“Why are you here?” You repeat again. Your face is blank as you stare at him. If only he could hear your heartbeat.
“Well you wouldn’t talk to me in class. You avoid lunch. You don’t answer my calls. How else am I supposed to talk to you?” Yeonjun asks. He feels a little frustrated.
“Talk then.”
“What?”
“You said you wanted to talk. Talk. I’m listening” you tell him coolly (not really. it was costing you a lot trying to be non-chalant).
Yeonjun runs a hand across his face. Exasperated. “Fine.”
Yeonjun takes a step towards you and you take a step back, leaning against the door making him pause.
“I don’t have all night” you tell him.
“Y/N. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I said that to you. I can’t even imagine how hurt you must’ve been. I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean it. You know I didn’t mean it.” He tells you. Yeonjun’s eyes are wide and for a moment you’re scared that he might cry.
The door opens right on cue making you lose your balance. You land down hard on your bum. “Ow” you cry out looking up angrily to see Jin’s worried face.
“Yah! Why would you lean against the door??” He scolds you before picking you up.
“Why are you here?”You fire back rub your aching bum.
“To check on you, why else?” Jin’s voice is almost indignant.
You shake your head before turning around to Yeonjun.
Yeonjun was waging a war with himself trying not to laugh, his shaking shoulders giving him away. You narrow your eyes at him.
“Who is this?” Jin questions.
“I’m Yeonjun. Choi Yeonjun” Yeonjun starts forward holding out his hand to Jin. Jin takes his hand, confused.
“The kid you’ve been tutoring?” He asks you not letting go of Yeonjuns hand. You nod your head at him.
“I thought you were tutoring a child.” Jin says. Yeonjun looks on politely. Jin drops his hand in realisation. “I’m Seokjin. I’m Y/N’s uncle”
“No you are not.” You laugh out.
“I jolly well could be” Jin huffs out. “Now,” Jin turns around to Yeonjun “We have never met before but Y/N has told me a lot about you-“
“No I haven’t, stop lying-“
“-I can see that you are good friends. But I dont want to see any funny business between the two of you. This tutoring-“
“Oh my god. Stop” you step in between them.
“Ofcourse Sir. I would never dream of it” Yeonjun answers solemnly. He has also adopted an expression apt for someone standing beside a deathbed.
You stare at him incredulously. You can’t tell if he is being serious or not.
“Okay. Now I want you back inside in five minutes” Jin tells you going back in “And no leaning against the door”
You hold the bridge of your nose. This might as well be a dream.
Taking a deep breath you look back at Yeonjun. Not knowing where to start.
“Okay-“
“I was clearly wrong” Yeonjun tells you. You look at him questioningly.
“Ofcourse you have people to answer to” Yeonjun rubs the back of his head. Sheepishly. “I’m sorry Y/N.”
You consider him for a moment. “It’s not that Yeonjun.”
He waits for you to go on. You sigh.
“I’m not very good at this. Person to person. I have a hard time letting people into my life.” As it is, you add quietly into your head.
Yeonjun waits on. “But..?”
“There are no but’s. That’s the point. I suck at relationships.” Yeonjun raises his eyebrows at you. “Platonic or otherwise” you rush to add.
“That’s crazy” he tells you.
“I know”
“But… you’re giving me a chance, right?” The little note of hope is enough to kill you.
You wait. A thousand arguments form in your head. Funnily enough a quote from Timothee Chalamet play out in your head. Life is coming from you and not at you.
You look back at him. before nodding your head. A hint of a smile plays on your lips. Yeonjun steps forward and you don’t move back.
You still don’t move away when he slowly wraps his arm around you. His scent is familiar to you now. You try to breathe him in.
“I’m sorry too. Friends?” You ask him trying to look up at his face.
“You’re so goofy under all that toughness” Yeonjun laughs pushing your head back into his chest. “I missed you”
You punch his chest lightly trying to hide your embarrassment.
The door smashes open again and you run back inside before Jin can get out no more than “Now what did I say about the funny business-“

fic below cut
Beomgyu who didn’t think twice when his dad proposed the question to him. He was not one to be bothered by love or finding the right one and out of the options he had you seemed to be the best choice. Your family’s knew each other and he has known you since you were babies and all through high school. You guys weren’t exactly friends but you were always there for all the major events in his life.
You, who were taken by surprise at the news, felt even more puzzled out when you heard that Beomgyu had agreed to marry you. He could have any girl. Handsome and charismatic you wonder why he agreed to marry you. Sure, it made sense in a business sense. With you marrying Beomgyu it’d further cement the relationship between your families and really boost your dads businesses. Maybe Beomgyu had his own reasons like you did.
The wedding is a quiet affair, mostly consisting of family friends and couple of your own. The day passes by in a daze and before you even realise it you’re standing in front of Beomgyu.
He looked dashing in his suit. Beomgyu gives you a small smile before giving his vows. You repeat your vows and he leanes down to give a small peck on your lips.
Your families cheer for you and you watch as your mom cries, tears of your own falling down from your cheeks. Beomgyu quietly hands you his handkerchief and you wipe them away, thanking him.
Something in Beomgyu’s chest hardens at the sight of your tears. The marriage had been nothing but one of convenience for him and he wonders whether that was unfair to you. He didn’t really know you all that well. You were quiet and kept to yourself a lot. But when you were really small you would read out stories to him while he dozed off next to you.
Now, looking at you standing next to him as his wife Beomgyu slowly realises how much time has actually flown by. Feeling his eyes own you, you turn around. Beomgyu is staring at you with an unreadable expression. You give him a quick smile which seems to break him out of his daze. He smiles back at you.
-.-
It’s been a week of your marriage. You are slowly adjusting to his house trying to grow familiar with your new environment. Beomgyu leaves early for work and comes home late at night. You on the other hand do your job at the school. The new academic year has just begun and you were trying not to drown in your hectic schedule.
“Hey, mind if I use your hair dryer? Mine seems to be broken” Beomgyu’s question brings you back to reality.
“Huh- yea- no, go ahead” you tell him. You were folding your laundry. You and Beomgyu shared a room, but that was it. You didn’t know when he came to bed or when he rose. The slightly rumpled sheets the only evidence that he had spend the night with you.
It was rare for you to be together at the same time. Being the weekend, it was your off day and you usually spend it at home passing your time doing one of your many hobbies. Beomgyu usually stayed in the study and you figure that’s where he is probably headed after his shower.
Packing up your stuff in to your closet, you head to the kitchen. The dough you had gotten ready for the cookies would’ve probably cooled by now. Opening up your refrigerator, you take out the dough when you hear footsteps. You look around to see Beomgyu making his way towards you.
“Hungry” he answers to your questioning look and you nod your head.
“Would you like some pancakes ?” You ask him, setting down the dough.
“Uh- that’s cookie dough, sweetheart” he tells you with a smile leaning against the counter.
“Duh- I know, I made it” you tell him rolling your eyes. “I have some batter left, but if you’re going to be a smartass about it, then I guess no” you tell him going back to your business.
“Nooo” Beomgyu drawls out and you raise an eyebrow at him “Please I’d love to have some pancakes, if it’s not a bother for you” he adds.
You try to hide your smile, picking up the batter. You look around and Beomgyu’s still watching you. “Sit”
“Yes Ma’am” he sighs before sitting down on the countertop.
Beomgyu watches you as you work around the kitchen. It’s still new to have you around his house, but he likes it. He likes the little decorations you’ve put up on your bedside table. He likes the soft sound of your breathing when he lies down to sleep. He just wishes he had more time to spend with you. But business has been tough as of late. The new merger was taking up almost all of his time. He feels bad about leaving you alone immediately after your marriage but it is what it is.
“There you go, banana or strawberry? Wait- don’t answer that” you tell him cutting up strawberries for him.
“You remember” Beomgyu says softly and you look up at him.
“Ofcourse, can’t remember the number of times I’ve had to drink banana milk because of you and your obsession with strawberries” you tell him disdainfully.
“Yah- you liked bananas so was it really a sacrifice?” Beomgyu’s huffs at you before taking a bite of his pancake.
“How is it?” You ask him leaning down on your elbows.
“Delicious” he answers with his mouth full and you smile at him before picking up a strawberry from his plate.
“What do you plan on doing today?” Beomgyu asks you.
“Rotting on the couch with my new book” you tell him happily and he rolls his eyes which you ignore.
“What about you- lemme guess, hmm working!” You say tilting your head to the left and Beomgyu considers you for a moment.
“It’s called being productive, sweetheart” he tells you sweetly.
“Reading is productive and I’m not your sweetheart” you tell him mocking his tone.
“You’re literally my wife” he deadpans, “I’m legally obliged to call you sweetheart”
“Okay Honey” you tell him before heading off to the sofa and plopping down picking up your book.
Beomgyu is about to say something when his phone rings. He sighs before he answers. Work calls.
-.-
Blinking away from the brightness of the screen Beomgyu takes note of the time. It’s nearly four in the evening.
He wonders if you have had lunch, he’s been completely focused on his work that he forgot about his surroundings, about you. Guilt grips him again as he makes his way downstairs.
You’re passed out on the couch, the book resting on your chest. He wonders how long you’ve been asleep. Gently pushing away a strand of hair, he is about to wake you up when a message pops up on your phone
Sunghyun 🤍- Cant wait to see you tomorrow!!
Beomgyu scoffs. Who was this man ? Does he know you’re married? Why was he texting you ? WHY DO YOU HAVE A HEART SHAPED EMOJI NEXT TO HIS NAME???
“You know, it’s not nice to snoop through someone else’s stuff” you grumble quietly and Beomgyu nearly jumps.
“Fuck” he says clutching his chest. “I was not snooping, i was just waking you up when the notification popped up” he adds on quickly.
“Uh-huh” you tell him holding out your hand for your phone. Beomgyu gives it to you before sitting down next to you on the couch.
You open your notifications. A couple are from your work friends and one from your mom.
You type out quick replies, before putting your phone back down and turning around to face beomgyu.
“Who’s Sunghyun?” Beomgyu asks you looking down at his nails.
“Huh?” You ask, still disoriented from your nap.
“Sunghyun. Who is he?” Beomgyu asks again impatiently. He feels angry at this Sunghyun. “Does he not know you’re married?”
You take a look at Beomgyu before bursting into laughter.
“What.” Beomgyu asks you surprised at your reaction.
You’re still giggling when you answer him, “Sunghyun’s me friend” you tell him.
“And why is that funny? Does he not know boundaries?” Beomgyu huffs out.
“No silly, Sunghyuns a girl. And I’m unfortunately not into girls, neither is she I believe” you tell him grinning.
Beomgyu wished for the ground to open up and swallow him whole. He clutched the bridge of his nose as if to ward off the reddening of his cheeks.
“Bet, you’re reallllyyy embarrassed right now” you tell him in a playful tone trying to see his face as Beomgyu hides it behind his hands.
“Stopp, I was just asking” he whines out.
“Yeah, yeah” you say smiling. Getting up you head to the kitchen to grab water.
“Does Sunghyun not know you’re married??” You do your best imitation of Beomgyu as you sit back on the couch. Beomgyu looks at you with narrowed eyes.
“Alright I’ll stop” you tell him. “What do you wanna eat ?” You ask him.
“Right now?” Beomgyu asks you wide eyes.
“Yeah- you haven’t had lunch yet, have you?” You ask him.
“No.” Beomgyu replies.
“So, let’s eat something. What do you want to have?” You ask him.
“You haven’t had lunch?” He asks you incredulously. His phone starts ringing again and Beomgyu mutes it.
“No, I was waiting for you, guess I fell asleep then” you answer him, moving around your kitchen.
“You don’t have to wait up for me” he tells you sharply and you look at him.
“I know.” You tell him curtly. Anger flares up inside you.
“No, what I meant was- you don’t have to wait like that for me, I eat whenever I get the time-“ Beomgyu tells you in a softer tone.
“I got it” you tell him. “Well, I’m making pasta, would you like to have some?”
“No- I mean- I’d love to- but I have a meeting to attend to right now” Beomgyu tells you getting up. He doesn’t understand why he gets muddled up with his words when he’s next to you.
“You haven’t had anything since those pancakes… you need to eat” you tell him, irritatedly.
“Work calls” he answers you curtly.
“On a weekend? You don’t see me answering mine. You need to set boundaries” you tell him. Beomgyu is going through his phone, not paying attention to you.
“Well, my job demands this. And anyways how hard is it being a teacher” The words are out of his mouth before he thinks through them. He looks up at you and you’re standing there staring at him in disbelief.
An awkward silence settles over the both of you. Beomgyu feels defensive and you feel hurt beyond words.
“Right. Um- guess I’m making dinner for one then. Why don’t you go ahead with your tough job?” You ask him turning away. You hate yourself for being sensitive like this.
“Y/N- that’s not-“ Beomgyu starts and his phone rings again.
“Work calls” you tell him, pointing at his phone before walking into your bedroom and shutting the door.
Left alone, in the hall, Beomgyu sighs in defeat as his phone starts ringing again.
-.-
Beomgyu is sitting on his side of the bed, looking through his phone with his earphones in when you walk in. You barely give him a glance as you tie your hair into its usual bedtime braid.
Beomgyu watches you out of the corner of his eyes. He feels restless and uneasy at the thought of your conversation earlier. He wants to say sorry and fix things with you but he doesn’t know where to start.
You fluff up your pillows before lying down on your side of the bed, completely ignoring Beomgyu’s presence beside you. What he said to you was unacceptable and you still feel angry at the thought of it.
Scrolling through your phone, you respond to texts, giggling at a few from your friends. Beomgyu clears his throat but you turn away from him. You know it’s childish but you can’t help it.
Beomgyu sighs once again before removing his headphones. He looks over at your back. He wants to reach out but he just doesn’t know how.
You finally turn around and lie on your back. You’re smiling at something on your phone and texting back rapidly
Beomgyu feels a spike of jealousy.
“Don’t you have to wake up early tomorrow?” He asks you and you ignore him, which successfully makes him even more irritated.
Beomgyu snatches your phone out of your hand suddenly,
“Hey-“
“I asked you a question” he tells you looking at you. You refuse to look back at him, trying to get your phone back, which he holds high up above you.
You try to grab hold of his arm but he is not even budging and you lie back down in frustration. Beomgyu tries to hide his growing smirk.
“I don’t know Beomgyu- my job is anyways not that important so does it really matter?” You huff out. Staring at the ceiling, still refusing to look into your eyes.
Beomgyu leans over you, trying to catch your eyes and you turn away from him, but he grabs your chin, making you look at him.
“You’re so childish” he tells you. How dare he?
You push his hand away, getting up. You’re about to get off from the bed when Beomgyu grabs hold of your waist, pulling you back in.
“Let me go-“
“No- I don’t care how angry you’re at me, we sleep in the same bed” he tells you trying to hold you down.
“Why” you ask him struggling to free yourself.
“Because it’s on our vows. In sickness and in health…” he starts
“Yes not in anger and in spite” you finally stop struggling, lying still. Stupid strong man.
“Give me back my phone” you tell him.
“Here you go” he says handing it over to you. “Who are you texting at this hour? Doesn’t Sunghyun sleep?” He asks you, curiosity getting the better of him.
“Who says I’m texting Sunghyun?” You tell him, adjusting the pillows around you. Beomgyu leans over you trying to read your texts and you push him away.
“Get your nosey ass away from me” you say.
“Who are you texting? Does he know you’re my wife?” He starts again.
“Oh my god- why don’t I get that tattoed on my head “Married to Choi Beomgyu” maybe that’d keep away everyone” you tell him tiredly, switching off your phone.
“Would make you infinitely more attractive” Beomgyu tells you lying back down.
You pretend to gag, setting up a pillow between you.
“What’s this for?” Beomgyu asks.
“I don’t want you crossing over to my part” you tell him, pulling the blanket over yourself.
“So childish” he mutters before turning off the bedside lamp.
-.-
Waking up you know something’s immediately wrong. Your body feels sore and a slight movement is enough to set you into a world of pain. You cannot be having a fever right now.
You’re about to get up when you notice a pair of hands and legs thrown over your body. Beomgyu has you in his grasp. Clearly a pillow fortress is not enough to keep this man away. Turning around in his hold, you take note of his sleeping form. He looks angel like when he’s asleep.
Slowly extricating yourself from his arms you get up and your world shifts.
“Whoa-“ you mutter grasping into the bed frame. Your ears ring and black clouds the edges of your vision.
You force yourself to walk upto the bathroom but your body gives up midway.
-.-
A thousand needles pin you. Or atleast that’s how it feels. Your entire body is aching when you wake up. You feel disoriented for a moment looking at the white ceiling.
You jump up in shock when someone pushes you back down.
“Your ass is not getting out of that bed unless I tell you” Beomgyu tells you roughly.
“What-“ you start but it comes out more as a croak. You take note of his appearance. He looks a little rough. There is stubble on his jaw and he looks like he hasn’t slept at all.
“Why wouldn’t you tell me if you were sick” Beomgyu starts again. He is sitting by your side. The curtains are closed around your bed.
“It’s not that serious” you tell him carelessly, noting the flowers on the curtains. Beomgyu follows your eyes.
“I requested for a private room but only the ward was available” he tells you softly and your eyes snap back to him.
“Huh? No, I-“ you start. He was getting this wrong. “I don’t like hospitals” you tell him in a small voice.
“Nobody does” he answers.
“No I know- I just, can we go home?” You ask him voice wobbly and you hate yourself for it. Beomgyu looks at you in concern.
“We’ll go soon, waiting for the doc you know?” He tells you arranging the blankets around you. You take note of how you’re wearing his shirt. Did you vomit on yourself? What happened? You feel too embarrassed to ask.
“Did you miss work because of me?” You ask him looking at him with watery eyes.
“No, no it doesn’t matter right now, please rest Y/N” he tells you pushing you down again.
You cover your eyes with your arm not wanting for him to see you in such a vulnerable position. You don’t miss the way he sighs.
-.-
It’s nearly evening when your doctor visits you, going over a few medications and advising you to rest for the next couple of days he finally gives you the green signal to go home.
Beomgyu’s arm rests around your waist, supporting you into the car. You barely remember the ride back home, crashing into your bed the moment you reach home.
When you wake up, Beomgyu is still beside you. He is sleeping, neck bent at an odd angle and you gently shake him awake.
“What- are you okay? Do you need anything” he asks you bleary eyed and jumping up.
“No-no. Calm down. I’m alright” you tell him and he settles back down. He looks extra bear like in his sleepy state and your heart swells a little.
“Go sleep. I’m alright now and you need to be in Office tomorrow” you tell him.
“Yeah” he tells you smiling sheepishly, starting to climb into your bed.
“No- not here. You shouldn’t be sleeping next to me” you tell him immediately, pushing him away.
“What do you mean??” He asks you confused still hovering over the bed.
“No you’ll catch my fever” you tell him shaking your head.
Beomgyu stares at you for a moment before climbing back into the bed. “If that’s the case, I’d have probably caught it by now” he tells you lying down and pushing you back into the bed.
You get up again, “I don’t want you to get sick on my account” you tell him, stubborn.
“God, just lie down Y/N, I’m more strong than you think” he tells you pulling you down next to him.
You cross your arms over your chest, annoyed. Beomgyu smiles to himself at the sight, before pulling you closer to him.
You look over at him and he is looking at you so softly that you feel shy.
“G’night Sweetheart” he murmurs before falling asleep.
“Goodnight”
-.-
It’s been three days. Three days since you last went to School. Beomgyu is driving you up the wall.
“I’m FINE” you nearly scream when he rushes over to help you as you get up from the couch that evening.
“Alright, alright” he tells you holding his hands up in surrender.
“I will be going to school tomorrow- NO- I’m not asking your permission- I will be going to school tomorrow” you almost stomp your foot in anger but hold yourself back.
“The doctor told you-“ Beomgyu starts and you cut him off immediately-
“To rest for a couple of days. It’s been three. THREE. I have so much of work to catch up on” you huff out. “Ofcourse my job is not a real job in your eyes” Beomgyu winces at that, “but I need to be there tomorrow”
“Okay. Okay. But I’ll drop you and pick you up” Beomgyu tells you. He can already see the arguments forming on your lips. “For my sake Y/N, do it for my sake” he nearly pleades and you take a moment before nodding your agreement.
Atleast you get to go back to work.
“Alright, now, will my precious little wife do me the honour of having her dinner?” He asks you.
“Depends on what my precious little husband has cooked for dinner. If it’s another bowl of oatmeal, you’ll be featured on tomorrow’s headlines” you tell him sweetly.
“Why is my oatmeal that good?” He asks you wiggling his eyebrows suggestively and you hold back your laughter.
“Wife kills husband in an interesting turn of events, wherein he served her oatmeal three times a day for three days” you do your best news anchor voice.
“Ha- ha. Here comes the airplane, open your mouth wooo” Beomgyu answers back, settling down next to you and bringing a spoonful of, surprise, oatmeal.
-.-
“Are you sure about this” Beomgyu asks, yet again, sitting at the foot of your bed.
“Yesssssssss” you drawl out applying your lip gloss. You were wearing your normal white skirt and blue shirt, tying up your hair in a low bun. You glance at Beomgyu through the mirror. He sits ready for work, waiting patiently for you.
“Hmm, which perfume should I wear for today” you ask more to your self that anyone else.
“The one that smells like caramel” Beomgyu immediately answers. You look over at him with an eyebrow raised and he shrugs his shoulders.
“Alright then, I’m done” you tell him. “How do I look ?” You ask him giving him a twirl as he gets up from the bed.
“Hideous” he tells you walking to the door, trying to calm his rising heart rate.
-.-
“Okay, leave. Now.” You tell him tugging off the seatbelt.
“Good day to you too” he mocks.
“Aw, have a nice day my lovely pumpkin” you coo pinching his cheeks before jumping off of your seat and waving him goodbye.
Beomgyu waves back his hand coming to rest on his cheek. He watches you walk towards the school. Your coat bellowing around you in the wind. He wonders if he should’ve forced you to wear the scarf too.
Looking over, Beomgyu notices a kid running as if to catch upto you. The little boy reaches you and you immediately pat his head, giving him a lovely smile. The boy holds up his hand to you, and Beomgyu watches as you smile down widely at the boy before taking the child’s hands in your own.
Without knowing it himself, Beomgyu is smiling too, watching you.
-.-
A few days pass in the same manner. You’ve grown so used to Beomgyu’s presence that it feels weird to go to work without him.
Making him laugh was your favourite thing. To watch his whisker dimples on full display and his eyes form crescent moons, you feel warmth spread through you. Sometimes it scares you. You were bordering on falling for him that it terrified you. You knew this marriage was one of convenience and Beomgyu would never feel the same way but your heart continued to hope.
Also, you were driven mad with need. To have one of the most handsome men you’ve met right next to you, laughing along with you was one thing. To have his hands brush against yours every once in a while, watching those thick veins work their way around a steering wheel was a completely different thing. Waking up next to him with his deep voice right next to yours, having him wrap you in his arms every night, albeit unconsciously was leading you to the edge of insanity.
Unbeknownst to you, Beomgyu was not faring much better. He has grown so attached to you that the thought of being away from you was unthinkable. Every job he did felt like a hurdle to reach you. He loved listening to you talk. You were so animated, hands flying around and having the most comic expressions, he wanted more and more. At the end of the day, Beomgyu was also a man. He knew you slept without a bra on. Your warm body pressed against his and your sweet smelling hair, the way you threw you head back in laughter, exposing your neck to him… Beomgyu felt like he was on a sensory overload.
Yet, he remained a patient man.
-.-
Beomgyu was working away on his laptop when you walked into his study. He looked up and smiled immediately. You were standing at the door, fidgeting, holding a cup and wearing your long camisole.
Beomgyu checks the time. It’s nearly midnight. He just had to figure out this assignment before he slept.
“Well, aren’t you gonna come in?” Beomgyu asks you and you walk upto his table.
“It’s hot cocoa” you tell him before placing down the cup on the table. “Do you have a lot to do?”
“Just this one thing” he tells you pointing to the graph “you go ahead and sleep, I’ll come soon”
You look over at the graph before you, leaning in to get a closer look.
“Ahh, you can’t figure out whether to sell or stay” you tell him looking at the stock market indicators. Beomgyu looks at you in surprise.
“I know my stuff” you tell him, “you neednt look so surprised”
“Is that so? Well would my lovely wife advise me on what i should do then?” He asks you smiling.
You lean down further to see the graph and Beomgyu without warning pulls you down onto his lap.
You turn to look over at him. “Was this your master plan to get me into your lap?” You ask him, dragging the laptop closer to you and adjusting around him.
“Sweetheart you literally came in holding cocoa, that’s code for “i wanna sit on your lap”” he tells you
“Goofy ass” you reply rolling your eyes and Beomgyu drags you closer to him. His breath is so close to your ear that you find it difficult to concentrate on anything but you force yourself to look at the chart before you.
Looking at the rise and fall of the stock you analyse it further to understand it’s behaviour.
“Hmm… I’d advise you to stay” you tell him quietly after a while.
“Why” his voice is close to a whisper and you try not to react to it, pressing your thighs together. An action not missed by Beomgyu.
“Uh…” you feel out of breath. Get a grip! You tell yourself strongly. “See here” you tell him pointing at the graph. Beomgyu rests his chin on your shoulder looking at the place you are pointing.
“The stock has always broken through every time it has hit a barrier and the highs and lows are getting closer and closer, so get ready for the boom” you say the boom looking at his face and Beomgyu grins.
“How do you know all this” voice so loving that you’re taken by surprise. He turns you around on his lap, so that you sit sideways, arms around his shoulder.
“I- uh- I used to do trading for dad” you tell him in a small voice.
“Why did you stop?” He asks you trying to look into your eyes.
“It was not for me. I hate how obsessive I got with it” how obsessive he got with it, you add silently.
Beomgyu rubs a soothing hand over your thigh and you resist the urge to shiver. He smirks at you and you roll your eyes at him, ready to get up, but Beomgyu holds onto your waist.
Beomgyu glances down at your lips and looks back into your eyes. Your doe eyed stare is enough to sent him over the edge, he pulls you closer to him, your body fitting perfectly into his.
“Someone’s eager” you tease him in a whisper, voice full of mirth and Beomgyu cups your cheeks with one hand.
“I’m your husband, sweetheart and husbands have rights” he tells you lowly, face getting closer and closer to yours.
“Hmm… do they?” You ask him, acting like you were thinking about it. Beomgyu nearly growls at you, frustration building up inside him.
“Easy tiger” you laugh, holding his face in your hands and placing a small kiss on his nose. Beomgyu’s grip on your waist tightens and he leans down to your lips, face impossibly close to yours.
“Can I kiss you?” He asks you before capturing your lips with his. The kiss is heated, Beomgyu’s tongue incessantly moving against your own as if to try and get back the last bit of cocoa from your mouth. Your head feels woozy and you try to calm yourself but you feel yourself losing control. You grip onto his shoulders and bite his bottom lip and Beomgyu moans into your mouth, the sound music to your ears.
Beomgyu breaks away first, eyes still closed as if trying to ground himself. You’re not doing much better. You’ve never wanted anyone more in your life. Beomgyu grins at you and you try to kiss his whisker dimples.
“Someone’s eager” he laughs and you shake your head.
“Ofcourse I’m eager” you tell him, “have you seen yourself?” You ask kissing him once more.
“Just - “ Beomgyu’s phone starts ringing and you both look down at it. You see Kai’s caller ID and try not to sigh. Do investment bankers not get the concept of sleep?
“Fuck” Beomgyu mutters. You get up from his lap, but Beomgyu tries to pull you down.
“Baby- just a minute” he tells you eyes apologetic and you feel bad.
“Take your time” you tell him softly before walking out the door.
-.-
Beomgyu is not beside you when you wake up. Slightly disoriented, you get up from your bed. What time was it?
It’s only 7, you make your way down the stairs. Beomgyu stands by the kitchen, already dressed for work.
“Hi” you tell him groggily. “Why are you up so early” you ask him, plopping down on the seat.
“Early meeting. We have a gala to attend tonight” He tells you adjusting his tie.
“What.” You ask him spluttering.
“Be ready by 5” he says turning around and looking at you.
“Beomgyu, I have a parents teachers meet today” you tell him urgently.
“Well, get done with it soon. This is important” he says taking out his phone.
“But- this is my job! I don’t even have an outfit-“ you start panicking.
“I know but this is really important. We need to be there” he says. “I’m sorry”
“Oh, are you really?!” You ask him angrily. You couldn’t understand him. One day he was acting all sweet and loving and the next day, it was like you meant nothing.
“I don’t have the time for this right now” he says walking to the door.
“When do you ever have the time?” You ask following behind him.
“Keep your voice down!” He tells you harshly.
“Oh fuck you-“ you nearly scream.
Beomgyu slams the door on the way out.

“This is your house?” Yeonjun stands still in front of your gate.
“What? It doesn’t meet your expectations?” You ask. You were used to this question and you knew he would ask you the same.
You walk in as Yeonjun still stands by your gate, “Are you planning on coming in?”
“Yeah” he clears his throat and follows you inside as you unlock your door.
Yeonjuns brows knit themselves together into a frown as he walks in. He couldn’t figure how more than one person could live here. There is a small drawing room with a table and a green couch, books are kept in stacks on one side of the room and on the other side is a small kitchen. There is a little hallway leading to one room which he assumes to be a bedroom and what could be a bathroom opposite to it. Yeonjun feels something hardening in his chest.
You find him inspecting your house and for some reason you feel like laughing at his concerned expression.
“Where are your parents ?” He asks you quietly as you pull down a cushion and make yourself comfortable on the ground, placing your books on to the small round table.
“Not here” you reply “Come, sit down. You can sit on the couch if you want to”
“You live alone ?” he asks you incredulously.
“Mostly” you tell him “Done investigating, Officer?”
Yeonjun picks up the other cushion and sits opposite to you. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude” he tells you.
You nod your head “Let’s get started then. We will go over your grammar and then work on the chapters, yeah?”
“Okay, sounds good” Yeonjun replies. You can tell something in him has shifted, by his attitude towards you. Well, you were used to this and rarely felt embarrassed about your situation.
-.-
Time goes by quickly, the clock indicating that it was already seven at night. Yeonjun yawns and you close up your textbook. It had gone much more smoothly than you had expected. He didn’t seem as stuck up as before and some of his antics almost made you laugh out loud. Still, you couldn’t let yourself lower your walls to him.
“That’s enough for today” you tell him. You felt hungry and you are pretty sure he must be starving too.
“Aren’t you hungry?” you ask him, getting up and stretching.
“I’m alright” he tells you but the rumbles from his stomach tell you otherwise.
“I have ramyeon, have some before you go” you tell him walking over to your kitchen.
You turn on the stove, aware that he is watching you. You sigh, “Go ahead, ask me” you tell him waiting for the water to boil.
Yeonjun gets up and walks over to the kitchen, hopping up on the table top. To say he was surprised by today’s turn of events would be an understatement. He felt much more aware of you, like you were a real person instead of just someone he found interesting and was infatuated with.
Not that his feelings towards you suddenly changed, he could see you had a much more softer side to you than what you let on. But, after spending time at your house and with you he feels as though he has seen something that was meant to be a secret. You didn’t seem like you were trying to hide anything, in fact you seemed to welcome his questions, almost like a challenge.
“What happened to your parents ?” He asks you.
“Hmm, let’s see, Mom left me when I was 15, although that isn’t the first time she has walked off, no clue about who my Dad is or what happened to him” you reply as nonchantly as possible.
“How… how do you live like this?” He asks you softly, afraid of offending you.
“Part time jobs and She sends me an allowance every month” you tell him looking up at him finally. The noodles were nearly done and this is the closest you’ve ever let anyone get to you outside of Ryujin and Jin.
Yeonjun nods his head and looks at you giving you a small smile. Thoughts were racing through his mind, each trying to win him over but the one he felt the most was how foolish he had been to assume you were some girl he had to woo over.
“Why, did you expect a big mansion or something?” You ask him before turning off the stove.
“No. But I didn’t expect this either” he tells you picking up bowls and spoons as if it were natural to him.
You place the pot on the table and sit down on your cushion, slurping up the noddles immediately and Yeonjun follows suit.
You look over at him and he is smiling at you.
“You are kind off cool, you know?” He tells you.
“Oh for sure, poverty and absent parents indeed increases one’s coolness” you reply dryly and he laughs before diving back into his food.
-.-
Why do earphones insist on tangling up? You are untangling them and trying to plug them into your phone when you feel someone plop down next to you.
Yeonjun smiles at you, before taking a bite of his pizza slice. You raise your eyebrows at him.
“What are you doing here?” You ask him.
“Keeping you company?” he replies and you roll your eyes. You look around and notice half the people from your year staring at the both of you.
“It’s like having Princess Diana sit next to you” you mutter and Yeonjun chuckles. Taehyun and Soobin sit down opposite to you. They both give you awkward smiles and you smile back at them.
“What happened to your friend ?” Soobin asks.
“Oh… Ryujins visiting her grandmother” you reply putting your earphones back into your pocket and starting on your lunch.
“Are you guys studying today too?” Taehyun asks you.
“No” Yeonjun mumbles with his mouthful.
“I have work today” you add.
“Ahh… you work at Jins Diner don’t you?” Soobin asks you.
“Yeah… how do you know?” You ask him curiously.
“Beomgyu has told me about you” Soobin replies.
“Really and what-“
“Who is Beomgyu?” Yeonjun asks Soobin. “Why didn’t you tell me about this before?”
“Is he supposed to inform you about everything ?” You question.
“Uh… he is a friend of mine, we used to go to the same school before” Soobin tells Yeonjun.
“And how does this Beomgyu know you?” Yeonjun asks you.
You raise your eyebrow at his tone and he coughs a little, “Obviously a coworker” you tell him.
“Ahh” Yeonjun says before going back to his food.
“Beomgyu tells me you are scary to work with” Soobin chuckles.
“Oh well, if he wasn’t so fucking clueless all the time maybe I’d be nicer to him” you huff out.
“That must be why you always look mad at Yeonjun too” Taehyun tells you in a matter of fact tone and you can’t help but smile
“Is it?” Yeonjun asks you with his mouthful.
“Very much so” you tell him and Yeonjun gives you a push while Taehyun and Soobin try to cover their smiles.
Maybe its not so bad. Having friends, you think.
-.-
Even though you hated to admit it you and Yeonjun had fallen into a routine. Even Ryujin seemed to have adopted Taehyun and Soobin as her own and more often than not you all had lunch together. It was the closest you ever had to something resembling a family.
Studying with Yeonjun also became easier, he would do whatever you told him to do and you would carry on with your assignments helping him out whenever. You could see how prejudiced you had been about him now.
Yeonjun looked intimidating and kind of had that bad-boy vibe but the more time you spend with him, the more you could see how much of a goofball he was. You felt bad for avoiding him for almost half of the year.
Yeonjun hadn’t felt this emotionally attached to anyone. Being with you, even sitting next to you and watching you puzzle over problems made him feel so much at ease.
People usually discarded him after getting what they wanted and he had people telling him that he was being childish and cringe when he was being himself, but with you it felt like he could just be. The most you’d do would be, roll your eyes or tell him a sarcastic comment, but usually you didn’t seem to mind him at all.
Yeonjun could see how hard you worked and he could only imagine how difficult your life had been up until this point, but despite your tough exterior he could see the softness the world had still not managed to harden over. He wished you’d let go sometimes and ease up but he knew it wasn’t that easy for you.
Yeonjun loved making you laugh. Seeing you laugh made him crack up too. He especially loved the moment where you would lean into him, unable to sit straight from your giggles. It was rare but he always tried to make it happen.
“I forgot to say, a funny thing happened today” you tell him, remembering the event at class and looking up at him. Yeonjun seemed distracted and was staring at you with a stupid grin on his face.
You wave a hand at him and he shakes himself out of his daze, “Uh… sorry, what happened”
“Yeah… Lia talked to me today” you tell him a smile playing on your lips. “You know Lia right?”
“Who doesn’t know her?” Yeonjun mutters.
“Uhuh she asked me if I could set her up with you” you tell him breaking off into unable to keep your smile contained. Yeonjun looks at you, not amused.
“And what did you tell her?” He asks you, his tone serious and you feel a bit intimidated.
“I said I’ll try” you reply shrugging your shoulders and going back to your work. You glance back at him and he is staring at you with an unreadable expression.
“What? It’s not like I’m actually going to set you up with her” you tell him and the intensity of his gaze drops a little.
“Why not?” Yeonjun asks you his tone a little playful.
“Like I have that kind of time to be doing match making” you scoff, “Maybe if she pays me I’d think about it” you joke.
“Fuck you” Yeonjun tells you in a small voice and you look at him again. He looks hurt.
And you are surprised that it makes you feel a little uncomfortable to see him like this.
“I- I’m sorry” you tell him and he looks at you, “I didn’t mean to offend you and you know bviously you are free to be with whoever you want to be with I was just playing with you, I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings” you add earnestly.
Yeonjun tsks at you, “That is not what I-“ a loud bout of thunder hits the sky, even rattling your windows a little. You get up and are about to close the windows when another one hits. The smell of rain hangs heavy in the air and you look outside to see that the sky has darkened over.
“I didn’t realise how much time has passed by” you say to Yeonjun closing the windows and turning to look at him. He sits rooted to his spot.
“Please don’t tell me you are afraid of thunder” you tell him, holding the bridge of your nose.
“Uh…” he tells you eyes wide with fear.
“Oh god” you mutter as another one hits and this time your house plunges into darkness, the electricity being cut. You fumble around for your phone when you feel long arms wrap around you.
“Wha-“ you start.
“Please… I’m scared” Yeonjun tells you hugging you tightly against him. You stand there in surprise as he buries his neck into your shoulder while the lightening lights up the sky outside, his hands around you while yours hang limply by your side.
Slowly you bring up yours, wrapping them around his torso and patting his back gently as thunder continues to rumble outside.
“Shh- it’s alright, it’s just thunder” you tell him softly.
“Mmhmm” Yeonjun murmurs into your neck and you have to hold yourself very still to not shiver at his touch. Yeonjun was all muscle and warmth and the way he hugged you made you feel like you were the most important person to him. You can’t remember the last time someone’s hugged you like this, always pushing away Ryujins attempts at affection. It was like learning how to breathe again.
“Uh… Jun, let me get the candles” you whisper to him, trying to loosen his hold on you.
“I’ll come along with you” he replies holding onto your waist and you resist your urge to laugh, afraid of hurting his feelings.
“Alright” you tell him and turn on your phones flashlight making your way to the kitchen as Yeonjun follows along, holding onto you like a koala.
You open up the cabinet above the sink while he rests his head on your shoulder picking up the candles.
“Got them” you inform him. You’d be lying if you said that his touches had no effect on you but you forced yourself to ignore them. You were terrified of the person you’d be if you lowered your walls to him. If you didn’t let yourself feel anything, nobody could hurt you right?
Yeonjun and you make your way over to the couch again and you light the candles while he continues to hover over your shoulder.
“All better now, no?” You ask him turning around in his hold.
Yeonjun nods his head and you hear the rain starting outside. He lets you go, grabbing hold of your hand and you both sit down on your couch. Yeonjun pulls you closer to him wrapping his arm around your shoulder as you watch the rain from your seat.
“It’s almost 7.30” you whisper to him, the atmosphere making you talk in hushed tones.
“Uhuh” Yeonjun replies and you turn to look at him.
“Let your mother know you’ll be late, she’ll be worried” you tell him.
“She is out of town” Yeonjun tells you, “It’s alright” he adds when he sees your expression.
“Oh” you say, fidgeting around his hold, not used to being so close to others.
“Y/N…” Yeonjun drawls out and you look at him again.
“Don’t set me up with other people” he mutters making you smile.
“I can’t set you up with others against your will” you remind him.
“No, but don’t try to” he tells you running his hands across your arms.
“Like you’d listen to me” you laugh.
“I will” he insists and something about the way he looks at you makes him believable.
“Also you are calling me Jun from now on”
-.-
