02/ Securing a placement

*Gibb’s reflective cycle
In reflection of the application process when seeking a placement for this module, this was a very real and disheartening experience to not hear back from the majority of roles I applied for; however, despite this, I am thankful for introducing myself to this reality at an early stage of my career!
I have learnt to be prepared for things to naturally not go as I might expect, and maintain a positive, proactive mindset throughout. This is something I plan to take forward when applying for other jobs in my future career.
In addition to this, what I could have done and plan to do in the future is take the initiative to step outside of my comfort zone more and call or even visit in person the studios and agencies I want to work for. This in-person and over-the-phone interaction will hopefully grasp the attention of employers and most likely speed up my search by receiving quicker responses. Even if this process doesn’t land me an immediate job, it’s a great opportunity to expand my network by introducing myself to other creative forces in the industry.
*flash forward*
After the long, particularly challenging search for a creative placement opportunity, in December I finally received confirmation that my application was accepted to work on a live brief!
A multitude of emotions struck at this stage such as relief, excitement, nerves, anxiety all rolled into one. This will be my first experience working one-to-one with a client as a freelancer, and I look forward to understanding the process and practice in a real, industry-standard scenario.
Bianca and I met over Teams to introduce ourselves, run through the brief, and initially communicate the vision for her start-up business. This informal chat was the perfect way to ease into the placement and confirmed for both of us, that we could work well together.
This reassured me despite the stress I underwent, I came out of it positively and with a new brief and creative opportunity to be inspired by which was the overall goal!
