Taverna
Taverna – een spel over tavernes die men moet vullen met de juiste mensen en smaken. Niet nieuw maar wel een blijvend iets in de collectie. Door een onschuldige hand nu weer ter tafel gekomen. In mijn herinnering was dit een eenvoudig spel – tot het op tafel lag. Er zijn niet zoveel regels maar ze zijn op een haast virtuoze – waar is wat – manier geschrankt over en onder elkaar. Ons ma zou zeggen…

I’m currently taking part in my first work placement at University, all of which I will be documenting here on Tumblr for the purpose of reflecting on my personal development, experiences within the creative industry, and the challenges I undergo along the way.
This is also an insightful opportunity for anyone reading to learn from the handful of new experiences I plan on sharing my advice on.

Searching for placements
I knew I wanted to find a placement that would expand my existing skills in the art sector whilst introducing me to new experience. I started my looking into the galleries and studios around Birmingham, from local small spaces to larger companies such as BMAG and Ikon gallery. I also reached out to contacts I have already, I set up a online meeting with a previous employer to ask her about any contacts she could recommend for my placement, this is how I reached the contact for MAC Birmingham.
Work Placement Module
I am an Illustration student studying at BCU. The next module I am taking is work placement where I will source my own placement and complete a minimum of 70 hrs work in the art sector. I will use this blog to document my progress and activities in work placement.
Professional Practice - so far
So far I have been assisting the photographer Rut Blees Luxemburg for 17h.
After the first meeting on the 14/02, I met with Rut 2 more times to do more archival work ( picture below) and work on her archival website https://marcelforart.com/ ( A great site that Rut showed me to Create a website, but most importantly to keep your audience up to date and manage your portfolio in minutes.)
I had to match every negative with the contact prints and label them.
Rut gave me lots of freedom in doing this as she thinks I was doing a great job already. She had plenty of negatives to organise and I have been happy to help. Doing this work gave me a chance to look at different works made with large format cameras, talk about concept and ideas, ask many questions about photography in general and get great tips.
To thank me, Rut gave me 2 of her books/projects and signed them for me. What a great pleasure!
And this is the one she gave me the previous time, together with a bottle of wine from her own vineyard in Germany! ( pictures below)
We were planning to meet last week and this week to work on more stuff, but unfortunately due to Covid-19, it won’t be possible. It is also very sad that Photo London has been canceled as I was hoping to attend it with her...
