I think it’s funny how your lohen story is so sweet and fluffy and meanwhile I’m over here kicking him with all my angst aus
- 🍡
Honestly, he deserves it.
I will admit, going back to read through my fic its like "dam I could really make this worse or fuck it up by making Lohen just do whatever freak shit he does in canon" but then the urge to write him happy wins.
Keep kicking him with the angst, a healthy dose will surely appease the voices!! I support throwing characters into a small hamster wheel of tormenting angst!!
[Till Death Do us Part] 14: Something to hold, Something to cherish
Lohen x Fem reader| slightly suggestive (no nsfw/ off screen) near the end, conversations of the future, some sentimental bits, is it time for an anniversary?Well now it is! And cake! Lohen beefing with kids, WC:6.7k/Not entirely proofread so please excuse any mistakes made! If I missed your tag my apologies!
It was the middle of the night when Lohen awoke alone.
Sensing your presence was gone within the tight embrace of his arms, he wonders how you even managed to escape him. He could ponder your escape tactics as much as he liked but the smell of something cooking led him away of the bed towards the kitchen downstairs.
Upon setting his eyes on you, Lohen leaned against the doorframe entrance of the kitchen. Eyes observing your every move and how effortlessly you light up the space. The only light in the kitchen was coming from a wall lamp, Lohen figured you didn't want to use the large overcasting light in the ceiling for fear it would wake him, that or you simply didn't feel like using it.
You were tinkering about making something, there was chopped fruit, some cheese, and a jar of something you must've grabbed from the pantry. He remained silent as he watched, your devoted observer he was.
You had already changed out of your clothes from before, when he found you cuddled up near his side of the bed and refused to let him go once he settled beside you. Instead, you wore more comfortable clothes, moving around as if time didn't exist. His eyes softened as he bear witness to such an adoring sight, one he would only get.
The ring settled on your finger glistened in the lamplight, shining like a star in the endless nighttime sky. Perhaps it was the "homesickness" or "lovesickness" he felt while you were temporarily separated, but the attention he gave into the domesticity of your lives was growing. So much he wanted and dreamed of this becoming his reality, now that it was- it was addicting. So yes, he will watch, bask in your quiet snacking as if you were a painting to be admired only by him.
Your movements come to a standstill after noticing your visitor, instead of jumping to question him, you offer him a slice of the tart you had found within the pantry. It wasn't one you remember fondly buying but it was enough to satiate your hunger. Silently he walked across the kitchen and took your gracious offering, biting the tart directly from your open hand. Your eyes widen at the act but sparkle with excitement, turning back to your little spread, Lohen takes the chance to stand behind you. He rests his head on your shoulder, his hands finding their place on your hips. His thumbs tap to a rhythm unknown to you, but soothing, nonetheless.
You continue your snack-making, offering him bites whenever you pleased. Time slowly slipped away from you again, a time where most would be savoring the hours offered for sleep during this time. But unlike most, you savored the time spent right now, with the hands that hold you as if you were the answer to every question ever asked.
Lohen dips his head into your neck, his lips dance against the exposed skin, mouthing along. His lips move against your skin, speaking secrets you have yet to unlock, and promises only he wants to hold. Your hand places the fork you were using aside to come up to his hair, running your fingers within his hair. Your husband, having appreciated such a gesture presses firmly against your back, sucking you in as close as he can without letting you go. It wasn't hard or tight, just firm and comforting. Lohen always held you as if you were seconds away from leaving him, when really the idea would never grace you to begin with.
You sit in silence for a moment, your voice only a whisper in volume breaks into his thoughts.
"Next time we go shopping, we need better snacks. That tart was atrocious.", you feel his smile against your neck, Lohen merely nods. He lifts his head, resting his chin on your shoulder, a skeptical look he gives you.
"Is that an order my captain?", his tone lifts into the tease, but your hand tugs gently on his hair, which (like usual) has no effect on him. Instead, his teeth nip at your earlobe, continuing on he speaks aloud.
"Not that I would have minded, you could tell me to do anything and I would.", his hands leave your body, Lohen moves to lean on the countertop beside you. Arms cross over his chest as his eyes never leave you. You roll your eyes, popping a grape into your mouth.
Truthfully the statement held meaning in its weight. Not only as his captain, but as his wife- a beloved partner in life and death-, he'd do anything you'd tell him.
It was no question about his morality, the "the means are worth the victory" of a man and knight he was, Lohen was no stranger to have questionable means to succeed in his goals.
So, if you asked, or even simply requested, he would do anything you tell him to do.
Perhaps that piece of scum from earlier this week was correct, he was like a dog for you.
Not that you'd ever treat him as one, but the truth still stands. Your husband would hold himself to this standard if it meant to keep you happy and in love with him.
Your eyes roll turns into eyes of melancholy; something was churning in your head at his confession.
You knew Lohen would hold you as someone well-respected in his life. He has told you this before he confessed his love, you could look back and see now that some of that respect was true but also harbored something deeper. In truth you didn't know how to feel at such a confession, on one hand it was sweet? Romantic in his own way that he'd do anything for you, but it also lead to further questions.
"Lohen?"
"Yes, [Name]?", his eyes flick to yours while he awaits you inevitable question that follows along.
"You said you'd do anything for me, you mean anything as in anything. Not just a silly term to throw around, correct?", your eyes cut to his. Not hiding any lies within the drop of crimson within the mint green of his eyes, he nods. Both confirming and restating himself.
"Anything you'd ask of me, anything you'd want from me-is yours. All you'd have to do is ask.", his hand taps against the counter, not out of impatience, just curiosity to where this could lead.
He was thinking you'd ask if he'd kill for you-which he would. If you had to even request it, it meant it needed to be done. But instead, your question leaves him in an odd? No weird taste in his mouth, not one he'd willingly throw up, but had never tasted before. Something new.
"So, if I asked you to live for me, you would then, yes?", your eyes don't leave his face, but they were far away-he could tell. Left in the small state of shock, he tries to answer but you keep going. Your hands come up to his face, cupping it as if he were priceless. Not fragile, just priceless and irreplaceable.
"Would you live for me? Live every moment with and for me? If I requested it of you here and now, like an oath for us both to swear on?", your voice was firm as you came back to him, eyes no longer drifting off to find your words. Lohen remained silent, his eyes watching yours as you questioned him.
The silence stretched for a moment before you gave him more of this new taste, again not odd, only a new one.
"I want you to live for me, to care for yourself for me. To…I can't place it correctly but- just breathe with me? I can't form the words, but I want you, yes you Lohen, to live for me. Not in reckless abandon, but in these…small hours of moments.", you rambled with your explanation, delving into why you wanted him to be cherished and cared in this life along with you.
"You do so much, so much for me. If you'd truly do anything for me, then I want you to stay by my side as long as possible, so yes again live for me Lohen. That is what I'd ask you to do. It's selfish of me but it is what I want.", your eyes lower and leave his, your hands slowly remove from his face. It has been minutes and he hasn't spoken once.
But as your fingers leave his, he quickly (almost at light speed) takes your hands in his bringing your hands back to his face. His face didn't show the emotion blooming in his chest, but you could feel it in how his eyes looked at you. So instead of stopping you continue, gently your voice gives him more of your wishes to love him.
"I know that you know that I love you. But I feel its deeper than just "love" if I were to say. I'd want to cherish you in this life Lohen and hopefully the next. So yes, I want you to live for me, so that in every moment, every day, I can love and cherish you.", You didn't know what you struck within him, but his silence encouraged you. His grip on your hand was tight, silently asking you to continue.
The tips of your fingers tingle slightly, whether from his firm hold or from just the feeling of it all.
"You often say how good I am, but you are much better than that- I think so, no- I know so.", a smile forms on your lips, taking stride in his quietness. You didn't think it was shyness, perhaps surprise at this form of affection and praise. It could be the nightly atmosphere, or something else. You leaned forward and pressed a sweet kiss to his cheek, a firm reminder of your appreciation. Unmoving and ever so tender.
A breath leaves him, his eyes lower into a half-lid. Lohen pressed his forehead to yours, his eyes boring into yours. Like always he looks into the depths of your soul to search for anything. Not denial, all he sees is truths underneath the surface. His lips form to begin to speak but you quickly cut him off.
"And before you say it- do not say I am too good to you or for you. I believe we are past that, and you know how much it irks me when you say it like that.", your finger presses to his lips, Lohen flickers his eyes up and down your face before they roll in mock annoyance. Instead, he pursues his lips to kiss your finger.
"I wasn't, not this time since you seem so oppose to me speaking a truth, so instead…thank you.", he murmurs. His eyes hold gratitude for your affection, this too he will crave. And you, you'll happily give it to him.
"Don't thank me, I'll find ways to do it. Seeing finally, I shut you up, all it took was me being sweet to you Lohen, some would think you've grown soft because of me.", he scoffs and drops your hand again in false annoyance, but a smile was forming on his face as a laugh fell from his lips.
"Oh, because I love my wife, I'm soft, I'll have you know if you were anyone else I'd be offended, hurt even.", he points at you, but your laughter heals old wounds on him. Your shoulders shake as you shake your head. "Lucky me then, but I am serious, I'll make it a task to remind you I'm here to stay and cherish you my good husband. Because that is what you are, despite how often you grate my nerves."
"Which you can't deny I am good at- only me.", Lohen quips and watches you clean up your snack raid.
"Yes only you, now are you going to be a silent watcher again or are we returning to bed?", you ask as you close a few cabinets and the pantry, even turning off the kitchen lamp.
"I would love to, if I didn't wake up without my wife in the first place, I fear she could've gotten lost. Oh, the pity that would be!", Lohen calls as he rounds the corner for the hallway with the staircase, you give him a long dry laugh and follow him up there. Taking your sweet time up the stairs, down the hall to your bedroom you come to face your husband on his side of the bed awaiting you with a smirk.
"Keep it up I'll put a bell on you. Takes you ages to climb stairs now babe?", you barely get an argument in when he (alarmingly) crosses the bed and room to drag you back onto the mattress, with a loud gasp your back hits the mattress as Lohen hovers above you.
"Two things.", you start.
"Hm, go on?"
"One, you say I need a bell when you pull things like that so effectively. Second, if I were to wear a bell then we'd match wearing chokers then.", you grin as he huffs above you. This time he uses his fingers to flick your nose and pinch your cheek.
Your fingers touch against the choker he always wore, tracing along the black piece of fabric. Your fingers trace along the clasp, eyes drawing into a narrow.
"You could tug on it if you'd like or tighten it.", you hum in agreeance with his request but for right now your fingers dance along it.
"Lohen?"
"Yes my dearest [Name], are you going to try and leave me speechless again?"
You huff and tug at the choker to make him intake a quick breath to catch him off guard. "That was me being sentimental I'll have you know and it worked, but no-.", he hums again waiting for you to go on.
Your finger slips under the choker, only about a fingers width was allowed between the choker and the skin of Lohen's neck. He bears his neck to allow you better access, though his eyes sweep over your carefully. You were exploring to your pleasure, and he wasn't going to be one to stop you.
Your finger slips from the choker, your thumb coming over to press against the side of his neck to feel for his pulse point. Once finding it you just feel though your thumb's tip as his heart beats in a steady rhythm.
"Why are you so obsessed with my heartbeat?", Lohen breaks your train of thought. You simply shrug, not having a definite answer. A few seconds pass in silence as you think it over.
"It’s one of my favorite sounds in the world…mainly because its soothing.", Lohen rolls his eyes and flicks you nose. In response you quickly tug at the collar, giving him a quick breath between his lips.
"Alright no more late-night snacking its making you say all these things, makes me worried that something will happen to me.", he teases. Like children you two continue to pick at one another either my pinching or sticking out tongues at each other. Finally, after having your cheek pinched so tightly that you had to kick him, you both come to a stop more so a standstill.
"Says the man who knelt before me and confessed his love for me.", at the reminder Lohen turns his face away from you and grabs a pillow to get you to stop talking. Looking back, it was fit for his dire emotional state of wanting you to know his love for you, being reminded of him kneeling for you and looking at you like a wet puppy made his ears burn. A rare occurrence for him.
The softness of the pillow lands on your head, no force was used to hurt you instead you got a few giggles out from you. Relenting on your teasing and also pleading for Lohen not to tickle you because you say how quickly his fingers settled on your waist, you both made a small peace treaty to leave it until morning. The hours were slipping away from you, and despite how much sleep you both got- a little more didn't hurt.
Crawling and curling up beside Lohen, he presses his face into your neck. His hands pulling you snug against his front as you both get settled back into the comfort of your bed.
Though your words held a spell over him- the foreign feeling that warmed his chest, though undefined was brought upon by you. You always seem to make him face revelations he'd never thought of before, be it falling in love with someone, or learning to cherish them.
Lohen already thought back to watching you in the kitchen, the simple bliss your small hours’ worth of moments bring and how he gets to be a witness to it all.
His eyes fall close; he listens to your breathing even out and fall asleep yourself. His arms remained secure around you, silently reminding you too he wasn't leaving anywhere. His hand rests right atop yours, your ring turned inward to poke your finger. He didn't need to see to feel which ring set it was, the expressive craft work of the diamond was enough to tell him. His fingers trace against your ring finger, it must have felt weightless by now.
Your words still ring within his head, your wish and promise to live alongside him, asking him to live for you-alongside you. Spending your days with him as long as possible or as long as fate will allow you.
It wasn't that the task was impossible or hard to do, it surprised him how earnest you were. Normally he felt he'd earn those words as a form of reprimand for his behavior and self-sacrificial nature. That or the morality he has (or lack thereof).
But you were asking just for time with him, to live- not survive.
Don't survive for you, just live for you. Live as best as he can for you.
And being a good husband and being who he is- he would honor your request. How could he not? You asked of it, you shall get it. So, he will live as best as he can with you, enjoying moments like before. Maybe you were softening him a little, oh well- just with you it was fine.
—
The next morning you arrived at the base of 5th company only to stare at a few things.
A small stack of unfinished reports that needed to be signed off (a norm by now)
The reports from the firearm inspections that went completely normal as you were told by Lohen. Surprisingly no one had failed the inspection (you have yet to ask how he did it)
The pin board being empty, meaning assignments have yet to be assigned
A reminder written by Lohen to hold some crossbow demonstrations for some of the Knights
An envelope signed from the church. Addressed to both Lohen and you.
You play the mental gamble of which thing should go undone first, seeing the pin board being empty irked you more so you settled on that first.
You sorted through some of the reports, signing as many as you can before tackling other means of work. You also had to help organize some work event you read about as you signed, perhaps you needed to speak to Jean or the Grandmaster again about it.
Like normal, you morning would not be complete without Lohen coming up to you to see you before leaving off to stand frontline on another battle the knights had to tackle. He twirled his dagger in one hand while walking up behind your desk, he was careful not to disturb you too much as he could see you'll be swamped today.
Coming up beside you, tucking the dagger away, he cups one of your cheeks and presses a kiss to the other cheek. It wasn't the longest kiss in the world, but it was a meaningful one. When he pulls away he grins wishing you a good day and to not missing him too much while he was away.
"See you babe, be good for me.", he calls out while walking away, you hummed and turned your attention to the envelope from the church.
"Ironic for whom that message should be given to Lohen but thank you- oh wait! Stop, come back for me, quickly.", you call after him, and as told he walks backward back to your desk to see what you needed. In your hands the envelope was awaiting to be opened, Lohen's eyes scanning over the envelope.
"To the ever-popular young couple within the Knights of Favonius.", followed by both your names in print.
You begin to open the letter, but Lohen takes it gently from your hands and slits a clean, thin line along the envelope reveling a card inside. Both of you, looking confused stand close together as he tugs the card out from within the envelope. Once freed, Lohen opens the card-only for a small bit of glitter and colorful papers to fly everywhere from the card.
Some landed on both your uniforms but most landed on the floor thankfully, though the deadpan expression you both shared was laughable.
"The dedication is admirable to say the least. Someone had to stuff all that into the envelope without it bursting open.", you utter under your breath, Lohen scans over the card.
It was an automated or printed message written on the card to congratulate you both on 4-months of official married life as per the date from your marriage license. The card was signed by some notable figures from the church, even the Cardinal of Daybreak signed it too. Which definitely was a sign of something to celebrate.
"The Cathedral of Mondstat would like to take this occasion to congratulate you on overcoming the third-way mark of a year’s worth of time within the holy union of marriage. The Cathedral would like to take this moment to praise your efforts in such union by offering services or conversations of an official ceremony that can be held within the Cathedral. Please note that this ceremony can be open to the public or private-", Lohen reads aloud but then stops reading towards the end.
He hands you the card to let you finish as he steps away from you to look back at you his arms crossed over his chest.
"Oh, so its them advertising, huh.", you shrug and place the letter aside, you both shrug and sit with the information for a moment.
….
……
"We've been married for over 4 months?"
You both look at each other bewildered?! Has it been over a third of a year since you've gotten the license? It hasn't even felt like such time has passed you yet- you both were stunned to stare at each other in silence. Four months wasn't extraordinary, but it also wasn't small?
You were surprised because you'd think to remember this, it wasn't like a year has passed you unknowingly but has time really passed you like this?
Lohen was stunned to silence because the church carried that much to have the letter prepared for it, that was the first half of his thinking. The second was that time really passed him by like this, it wasn't a scary amount of passing but still a good reminder.
"Well…", you begin, meeting his eyes.
You both stared at each other…for a few seconds longer…then-
You snickered; a hand quickly flies over your mouth as you try to not let the noise escape. Lohen lowers his head as he finds himself laughing because you were laughing. Soon your small awkward silence was filled with you two looking at each other trying not to laugh at how you did not notice.
"Well…we really are dense.", you comment, clasping your hands behind you. You walk closer towards your husband and he just nods. "Well, you can't blame us, a lot has happened in these last few months, so anyone would forget.", Lohen reasons.
Standing beside him you look down at the card.
"They sent it thinking we should have a ceremony.", you begin.
"They also sent it to advertise a ceremony so, this could be something they do for everyone.", Lohen continued.
"Lohen, my dearest- the cardinal signed this.", you point out on the card. A smile bloomed on your lips at the fact even the Cardinal of Daybreak had to hurry to sign this silly card before it got sent to you.
"I think its sweet, albeit a little odd.", you place the card aside and wipe your clothes of any glitter remnants. You do the same with him on his front.
"Odd?", he questions, tilting his head too.
"I mean it’s odd they remembered to send something like this, but I think its sweet because it’s a celebration, nonetheless. I mean married for over a period of time is something to celebrate right. People do that right?", you reason.
"Yes for years or decades not months-besides who do you know that would get this if it wasn't intervention at its finest?", a smile was in his voice as Lohen pointed out the card. He would bet money the Cardinal did this on purpose just because-he was a dedicated man to his work but even he had a little mischief in him.
In reality it was also a wake-up call to you both, the mention of a ceremony to add onto the celebration. That or conversations around starting one, it didn't take a detective to know that the church meant a wedding. The sister at the church when you first went had hoped for one to happen when you first arrived to get the license. This could be intervention or gentle prodding to "check" and see if you'll oblige. Knowing the members of the church they'd be happy to help plan and throw one in honor of you two.
Now that you think about it, you try to think back to the last time anyone had a wedding in Mondstat, especially within the Knights, or with cases like you two. None come to mind.
"Well to be fair who of the people we know that are ready to be married or can have a lasting marriage?", you start and Lohen opens then closes his mouth. You shoot him and expecting look, but instead your vice-captain raises his hands in surrender.
"Fine- fine. So, wife, anything you want to do to celebrate such an event? You want to throw a wedding hm?", he was joking towards the end, especially in his tone but it was a genuine question. Lohen was prodding to see if you wanted it, its not like his dreams as of late have been helping, he just wants to see if you felt similar.
"I don't know about a whole wedding, truthfully i think that'd add onto the workload as already…", you turn away from him, walking back to your desk.
"But? I can tell there's a but there."
"If I were honest.. I have thought about it…it terms of our future.", you murmur. You don't look back at Lohen, instead he lets you continue, listening in silence.
"I mean we can both say- we're not getting divorced or that this marriage is coming to an end…especially after visiting your parents. So, I have…entertained the idea of us throwing one, seeing as this marriage is real and will last.", you tap along the wood of the desk, letting your finger feel the small grooves and dents within the woodwork.
"But I didn't think about actually throwing one, I mean we'd know everyone around us would be excited-but I didn't think about the time scale of it all."
"Why?", Lohen cuts into your outspoken rambling process. His voice was low, but gentle. "Why not? I wouldn't be opposed, if I were to be honest I'd entertain it too."
"You'd entertain the idea of a wedding, right now?", you quickly turn to look at him. He merely nods but quickly raises hands to caution.
"I mean as in the future, right now, like you said is hectic. If we threw one, everyone would be huddled up on us. You saw how they acted with the announcement party and how quickly the information spread about us getting married. I wouldn't want to throw us into that just for the appeal of it all, no matter how nice it would sound.", Lohen meets your eyes, he can see the wheels turning in your head.
You walk closer to him, your hands wringing over one another, perhaps a nervous habit.
"You'd want to throw a wedding with me?"
"If we had the time, yes. It doesn't have to be now- just a confirmation for the future babe.". Lohen have you a small smile, to which you gave him a shy one. It felt too precious how sweet and giddy you could be. His hand reaches for yours, lacing your fingers together.
"Confirmation for the future?"
"Confirmation for the future.", you repeated, a silent promise laced between each word.
It was all you needed to know about each other. That if given the time and chance- you'd have that wedding, do all the planning no matter how hectic it could be. You'd both do it as a sign that this too will last and stay.
The day that followed was a good one, though not perfect.
A few mishaps here and there, but overall, a good day. You did have to aid a few recruits with their demonstrations for their fear of failure was palpable. That and the many who clung onto you so they couldn't go to "special training" with their lovely vice-captain was notable. So being stern but fair, you gave them all second chances. That cleared things up quickly.
While leaving the work on your desk tomorrow, you felt it was necessary to celebrate a little bit. Just a little bit.
So, while leaving work you strolled around to a small family-owned bakery to pick up a small sign of celebration. Entering the bakery you perused their items on display, looking over each cake within the glass display. All were beautifully decorated and delicious looking. The young lady at the counter helps you with each one, explaining each flavor profile and even offering for you to taste some samples of the cakes before making a decision.
"What about this one?", you point to a cake dressed in white frosting with simple pink roses around the edges.
"Oh, a wonderful pick ma'am! It’s a simple vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. It’s a fan favorite around the holidays and summer days like this one.", the baker explains, she pulls the cake out to show the detailing on the cake. As beautiful as the others looked and as mesmerizing the flavors were, you chose this one.
"This one will do, thank you again for offering your help.", she beams and quickly packs the cake up in a box along with a bag. She even throws in an extra container of frosting. Paying and leaving a tip to the bakery you continue on your walk to your home.
While walking you hear some children playing near one of the posts for the Knights to patrol, the sounds of their banter and excitement brought a smile to your face.
"Hey! That's cheating, how did you grab them all so fast!”, one young girl called.
"It’s called skill, something you can gain if you didn't throw cheating accusations around like that.", another voice spoke.
You were going to continue walking on, but that voice sounded too familiar. Pausing in your tracks you listen a little longer to determine it.
"Nuh uh! That is cheating! You even have a vision too!”, another child jumps in, a boy this time. A burst of laughter leaves the older voice within the group. You did not have to learn further who it was, instead your feet began towards the group.
Once you were in sight, the little girl dashes around you, clinging onto your uniform and pointing at the so-called cheater.
"Captain [Name]! See she's here to get you!"
"Yeah! Cheater!", both the children stand behind you as they hold accusing pointing fingers at the man.
The man in question? Your husband, the vice-captain, Lohen.
He merely shrugs at the children hiding behind you, using you as the force to stop him from "cheating". Looking down at the game-it was a game of jack. In Lohen's hand was the rubber ball, and beside his foot while he was crouched into a squat was a small pile of candy and sweet treats.
It did not take a genius to know what happened.
"Lohen…", you began, brows furrowed in a pinch.
"Hello captain, lovely evening. I was just about to come home to see you, but uh-had something slightly more important."
"More important?", you chide, though it was ridiculous a smile formed on your lips. You crossed your arms as the small children stuck their tongues out at Lohen, to which he eagerly returned.
"He was cheating! He was much faster than us! Miss [Name] we're not lying!", both the children went back and forth explaining how Lohen supposedly cheated by being faster than them and taking all their hard-earned candy. Your husband merely shrugged and kept a smirk on his lips.
"Not my fault, I did not cheat- these two are just whining because I have better skill, that's all.", Lohen argues though he showed no sign of apologizing. Truthfully you couldn't even argue his point because if he wanted to cheat he could have.
But with the two sets of wide eyes looking at you as if you were the only sense of justice in the world, you sighed.
"Well, I don’t think he cheated but! But! What if because he is playing with a bit more experience, I make him split his candy?”, that seemed to work because both the children agreed. Unfortunately for Lohen, he didn’t want to but begrudgingly offered half his stash.
He and the two kids pick out their candy while you watched, overseeing a fair exchange. Once they were done and satisfied with their choices the two kids thank you before skipping off home.
“This is not over cheater knight!”, the little girl called back while she ran home with an armful of candy.
Lohen rolled his eyes as he came back up to stand, he picked up his stash of candy in his hands and have you a look.
“What?”
“You’re supposed to be on my side, what happened to “partners in life and death", hm?”, you barked a laugh and let him place the candies in the bag you were carrying anyways.
“You knew what you were doing, playing jacks with them when you have a faster reaction time. Besides it’s a little candy, you have candy at home.”, you both began to walk back on path to your home.
“Its not about the candy, its about the principle.”, Lohen argued.
“What principle?”
“Teaching a fair lesson. Those two whined to you to get their way. Next time they won’t be as lucky. I was teaching them something valuable.”, Lohen’s hand comes to wrap around yours, his thumb rubbing against the back of your gloved hand.
“You also had a stack of candy next to your feet meaning you’ve been playing this with them for a while now. Just let them have this small treat, next time you can play fair for their experience level.”, you squeezed his hand as you tried reasoning.
“I was totally fair to them, those two just suck at picking up the jacks.”, Lohen’s eyes drift to the box in your hands. "Oh a gift for someone?"
"A gift for us, actually. By the way you are not making your case easier. i can guarantee you didn't cheat but I can't answer for if you were fair.", your house was in view and quickly you ushered him inside. Once the door was opened, then closed with its lock clicking you rush to the kitchen to get the cake unboxed.
"To be fair, whining doesn't guarantee a win. I think they should learn that too, that's how you get cry babies.", He leaned against the counter while watching you unbox everything. The cake was still as beautiful as when you bought it.
"They're kids Lohen."
"They're old enough to loose, but I'll let this incident slide. What's with the cake?", He comes up behind you to look at it, even trying to swipe some frosting. You swat his hands away, quickly getting some forks.
"I wanted to give us something in honor of the anniversary, so I picked up a cake.", you hand him a fork, Lohen smirked and pointed the fork at the cake.
"To celebrate our months of marriage, you bought a wedding cake.". his eyes sparkled in mischief. You eye the cake up and down.
"It is not! Its just a white cake, besides any cake can be a wedding cake and any cake can be a anniversary cake.", you quickly rambled and began taking a forkful of the cake. It wasn't a normal sized cake, just a smaller than average, besides you didn't feel like serving it up. Lohen not finding any fault in this, also takes a forkful. You both hold your forks out, but before eating it, Lohen stops you.
"Open up babe.". His other hand cups your cheek, tapping against your lips wanting to feed you. Was it cheesy? Maybe, even with your eye roll you open your mouth, Lohen mimics this so you both can feed each other.
Sweetness hits your tongue from the frosting as well as the fluffiness from the cake. Moist but not too sweet, the vanilla flavor was melting on your tongue , a noise of appreciation leaves your throat.
Lohen does the same, licking his lips after your fork pulls from his lips. He swipes his finger against the cake, inspecting the frosting.
"Pretty good, its a good balance.", you smile, he nods. His eyes cut to yours, you were enjoying yourself in this small celebration. His heart wonders if when the real thing happens how you'd look. This was perfect practice right? So why not embrace it?
His finger with the frosting swipes it against your cheek, before you could ask whatever he was up to; Lohen cups your other cheek and licks the frosting from your chest, kissing along your face as he chuckles.
"Sweet enough for me, won't you agree [Name]?", he grins as your brain stutters a little. His tongue pressed against your cheek could freak you out, but his lips dancing against your face and down along your neck sent a shiver up your spine. Your senses return to you when his lips press against yours, bringing sweetness into the kiss.
Your fork clatters on the counter as your hands come up to the nape of his neck, fingers twirling the hairs at the base of his head. A small noise leaves your lips when Lohen slips his tongue along your lips, wishing to taste you deeper. The vanilla aftertaste from the cake added sweetness to the meal he already wanted to savor.
The kiss only deepens as time is lost on both of you, only the feeling of his hands holding you close, pulling you closer into him. Your hand falls from his neck to his chest, tugging on the fabric of his shirt and the cape that hands over his shoulder. the kiss breaks with a small gasp of breath after. Your lips were glistening from his tongue and lips sucking you in, Lohen quickly removes his gloves to cup your face again.
"Happy anniversary [Name].", is all he said with that smile that wanted to spend hours taking you apart and rebuilding you. A smile that foretold the worship eh was going to lay onto you.
"Happy anniversary Lohen.", you whisper back, a smile on your face as your husband eagerly ushers you upstairs. The cake is only momentarily forgotten before you rushed back into the kitchen to place it in the fridge along with the tub of frosting that came with it. Eager hands dragged you back up the stairs, the house was filled with your shared giggles and laughter.
Though a small celebration, it would the first to many.
Apologies again but- I wrote the chapter, read through it, and hated it. Like it wasn't bad, but I could tell it was rushed quality. I hit my 6k work mark and was going to press send on it, but despised the quality.
So instead im rewriting it. Idk when it will be out, no promises here again, but please understand and I thank you if you do.
Also my weeks been hectic with constant storms here where I am, that and I've been pretty off line as of now (not within my power, someone hit a power box where I live so we've been fighting that)
Finally- my writers block has been influencing this unfortunately. Its not that I don't know what to write or don't want to- i just can't find myself doing it? Idk how to explain. So as of now im slowly rewriting, the chapter will be out when it will be out.
Thank you for understanding, again apologies for leading anyone on- Berri
I DO TOO!! he was my first main before lyney(my glorious king and goat, never giving him up)
But Heizou deserves it! We barely see him in game anymore and hoyo isn't doing hangout events anytime soon 😭 I legit replayed his and Faruzans so much it was so much fun
Hoyo add Shikanoin Heizou to another event and my (wallet) life is yours!
My writers block man..I have like 3 drafts I need to finish but nope. My brain just got no juice😮💨
Like they're all planned and outlines, I just have to do the inner details between yk?
TDDUP - ch.14
Heizou college au oneshot
And Midnight coffee ch. 2
Maybe its just writers block, if its worse -then oh shit. But for now idk, it may take a minute or two for anything to come up and out, hopefully I can push out of this weird state soon.
Hi Berry! I was wondering if you’ve done Lohen’s Story Quest yet, and if you have, what are your thoughts on it? Also, how have your pulls for Lohen been? Especially since there’s only a day or so left until it’s gone.
Thank you in advance! Bye!
HELLOOOOOO!
I haven't finished it yet- but know what happens because I saw a playthrough of it.
My thoughts so far, in honesty is "thank goodness Theodore isn't a twist villain" like hoyo always does in a story quest.
I liked seeing more of the Mondstat cast and interactions
I hated the stealth/ take out section and disliked it. I suck at these things ngl
Honestly I don't play many of the story quest actively, sometimes they're either really boring or barely okay for me. For lohen it felt more like researching more into his character for future projects I have planned for him- which it was good and fun I'll say.
Finally I did manage one lohen. At 85 pity. That short shit took me that far. On guaranteed mind you. I am not going for his weapon, he will take death match a WILL like it (still trying to get a good set for him)
(Not apart of the ask but im saving for Flins wep, im not all too interested in anyone from Snezhnaya other than Ana , Alyosha and Mitya ngl)
Sorry if this isn't as detailed like I said I speed through the story quests unlike some quests bc of how long they are!
I also feel Lohen will just do "the voices, the voices" then act like nothing is at all wrong. Theres a therapy session waiting to happen, just gotta know when
[Till Death Do us Part]: 13 Fondness Expressed Over Time
Lohen x Fem reader| oOoO guess who gets separated from their spouses. You two! Lohen missing his wife (you), you miss your husband. Mentions of blood/ torment- Lohen’s interrogation skills, mentions of killing (there is none), you both are over it. This was written but then my software decided to self-delete some of it. So, it had to be rewritten. Sorry if the quality sucks, but i was kinda bummed! WC: 6k/ Not entirely proofread (make sure to back up your works)
The next morning a kiss was placed upon his forehead within his sleep, or what should have been his sleep. He barely slept much the night, on account of things that followed from that night. But if Lohen were to be honest, it was the best sleep he's gotten in days. You had to leave before him to meet up with the other knights for Dragonspine.
As much as he wanted to admit, he didn't want to part with you just yet. It was very early into the morning when you left, so early the sun had not yet risen. Your quiet departure was kind enough to let him get more sleep, if that were the case with Lohen, ever. No, instead he stayed awake, much to your wishes.
"You'll regret the lack of sleep.", you murmur as you finish gathering your things. He didn't care, instead he kept his eyes on you.
"So? I've fared through worse, besides I think I should be the first to say goodbye to you instead of sleeping.", your eyes rolled at his statement, truly you wanted him to have good sleep before his mission came. You wanderer back to his side of the bed, kneeling down to gaze at your husband. He simply stuck out his tongue and smirked.
"Goodbye Lohen, I wish you luck on your mission.", you gave him another kiss, this time on his cheek. He hummed, taking your hand and kissing your ring finger.
"Goodbye [Name], I wish you well on Dragonspine. Don't miss me too much babe.", he relaxed back into the bedding. You give him a warm smile before taking your leave. The close of the front door is all that's left before he is left in silence. He contemplates going back to sleep, but unfortunately he was awake and not going back to sleep. Not when you weren't beside him. Call it childish or lovesick, but he couldn't not find himself sleeping comfortably without you.
So instead he found himself going about his morning, despite it being so early in the morning. Getting dressed, checking the reports he didn't write but needed your signature forged on, and checked the location of this assignment. It was supposed to start another few hours away, but like you-why not start now? You were leaving for Dragonspine a bit earlier than usual for your need to prepare. The good thing that you are. (even if you hate when he says such). Plus it meant you'd both return earlier than expected.
The reason this mission was so hush-hush, was because it would damage the moral of knights in a certain company. The reason? There was belief someone was handing information off to members within the ranks of the Fatui. The Grandmaster wanted this to be handled with upmost care, but needed it to be handled quickly.
It was simple, find the rat, get them to talk, find the intel being transported over Stone Gate and finish the clean up. Call it a day. That's what Lohen heard after all. Sure it may have been more than that, but eh- Varka can understand. It's not like he's going to cause a scene or anything.
When Lohen inquired why he of all was chosen, Varka gave him a mixed-bag of answers.
He was best fit for the bill seeing as the rat in question was dangerous and armed with stolen equipment from his company after all
The intel corresponds with information regarding the expedition from Nod Krai and the remnants of a certain doctors experiment. (that an details about the Wild Hunt that was not meant to be released yet)
Finally, Lohen would get the rat to talk.
Now, call it wrong of Varka to weaponize him like this but- effective means have effective results. This person was putting people in danger by spying on the citizens of Mondstat and gathering their information. Lohen was known to get answers out of people, albeit a little too well.
So, he had to do a little digging for this. Better him than someone else.
Also stealing from the 5th company, stealing from his captain? Are you insane? No, he wasn't going to show any mercy, not when it concerned his company and his captain. When he read through the report (he had to, Varka was staring at him to actually read through it) and read through the information regarding stolen items and weaponry, he nearly doubled over in laughter. Whoever this rat was, wasn't the smartest then.
"Dimwit.",he muttered under his breath. No need for correction this time.
With the last of his things gathered: polearm, dagger, musket, and a few vials of poison- he was ready to go. He tucked his ring neatly onto his finger then tugged on his gloves.
Leaving out of the house, the first thing he needed to do was speak to Varka again to confirm a few more things, much to his dismay of wanting to jump into the action. But since this was "sensitive", he had to play by the rules. He could also drop by the cathedral to give in some reports.
Arriving to the main city of Mondstat, the sun was rising as people were beginning their days. He greeted some of the knights on duty while walking up to the cathedral. Walking pass the large wooden doors he too was greeted by a suspicious Cardinal Seamus.
"Good morning Lohen, I see you're up well and early today.", the Cardinal greeted, stopping his early prayer just as the doors opened. Some of the nuns were busying themselves with cleaning the cathedral for anyone coming for a morning prayer or confession.
The Cardinal did not return the smile given to him by the knight. Frankly his eyes were zoned in on the papers in Lohen's hands. He clasped his hands together, thumbs rubbing against the backs of his palms as he was already mentally preparing for this conversation.
"Good morning Cardinal, and yes, I am up early. I have something to attend to on behalf of the Grandmaster and wanted to give these reports off before I head out. Just to make things easier for both of us.", Lohen extended his arm to hand over the reports, however the Cardinal only looked at them. He made no sign of taking them. Not yet, he needed to confirm something.
"Were these reports signed by your captain? Lady [Name]?", Seamus asked. Lohen nodded and even pointed to your name on one of the reports. He opened the folded paper up and showed your signature on the dotted line.
"All that's missing is yours or the Grandmaster Varka's signature on there too.", he gestured to the reports again. Shaking his hand for the Cardinal to take them. Seamus wanted to question further as he knew well that probably was not your present/aware signature. However seeing Lohen itching to leave, he just sighed and took the reports.
"Thank you…Lohen. May the winds be with you for the rest of your work.", with that Lohen bide the Cardinal a quick goodbye, leaving the cathedral with hurried steps. The Cardinal sighed shaking his head, a look of genuine concern over his face. A nun comes up to him, placing a hand on his arm as she too looked concern for his well-being.
"Sir…? Is everything alright? Is something the matter with the reports? Is it the content within that troubles you?", her voice was of kindness. Seamus thanks her for her concern but corrects her on his worries.
"He didn't write a single one of these…the handwriting is inconsistent. I can tell just by looking at the dates…but yet, the only consistent thing on any of these reports….is his wife's signature. His captain's signature is perfectly written on all of these.", he was amazed frankly. The Cardinal could guess probably a few names that could have written the contents of the report, but the signature stumped him.
What he didn't know was Lohen perfectly captured your signature. Remembered it and copied it perfectly. It took him a few weeks of practice (secret practice), but he got it. Now, did he put more work into copying and forging your signature? Yes. Yes, he did.
Was he going to put this effort into writing his reports? No. No he was not.
There was something to be said about him capturing your handwriting perfectly, what was it? He didn't know. All he knew was he liked writing it out on his reports. You have yet to catch on, but when you do- he wants to do comparisons. You've graded his traps, grade his forgery too. Why not?
As he walks away from the cathedral, the sun was shining down on him. Popping a piece of gum into his mouth, he continued on his way to find this rat and to deal with them quickly.
He knew where to start, out near the Dawn Winery was where he was last tracked and seen, something about moving things from Dorman Port over to the main city. However he stopped communicating clearly with someone at headquarters, which raised some red flags. The first ones that caused suspicion to be raised in the first place.
After a few hours of trailing the guy, it was later in the afternoon when Lohen apprehended the man and dragged him to a storehouse near the border. One set up by the knights beforehand. Just for him.
Stalking this man, hunting him and giving him a good scare was all good fun.
The man was still fairly shaken from being jumped on and basically given an inch of his life to cling onto with the hopes of being seen by anyone again. He was a middle-aged man, not lanky but not too well-built.
His appearance was that of someone unremarkable, if you were to pick him out of a crowd you'd possibly have a hard time doing it. That's how unassuming he was. The information on the report concerning his background was also that. Unassuming.
From the quick "scan" Lohen did, the story given was the mans parents moved to Mondstat from Nod Krai when he was young, set up shop in the city blah blah blah- and he joined the knights little over a year ago to help with the city's safety efforts.
Everything from his personal whereabouts, status, and current rank within the knights was all…bland? There was no perfect way to put it other than this was all perfectly crafted and planned. Whoever within the Fatui tasked with making identities really sold it on this one, Lohen had to admit. It would have been hard to find this guy (his name is Elmer, which odd name frankly), with the information they had.
He'd be the perfect spy in any situation.
Too bad this man was incompetent.
Really it was laughable. Beyond that. Lohen was leaning against a wall, head in his hands as he had this man repeat his scheme over and over just to see the flaws within it. Maybe it was a new torture method he developed because the guy was losing it from repeating himself so much that details were starting to bleed over each other.
"From the top, once more.", the vice captain spoke. His eyes no trace of care or concern for the man weeping in a chair while tied up. He was ugly crying at this point.
"P-please… I- I..already told you…I was going to-to deliver the intel to members at the bank in Liyue…what else do you want to know?", the man sputtered. Lohen barely had the respect to address his question. He shook his head again.
"You were going to go to the Northland bank, deposit the information you gathered from the Knights of Favonius in broad daylight. You were also going to sell, the stolen firearms and equipment from 5th company to the Fatui for…bonus points?", he raised his head to stare at the man. They've done this like 7 times at this point.
The man meekly nodded. Offering a half response, half plea for Lohen to let him go or just put him out of his misery. Which unfortunately he could not- the Grandmaster wanted him alive and well so they could also investigate further- but for now…he just didn't care.
"The weapons…from 5th company were highly sought after…my-my employer wanted to know what was within the locked part of the base…so I…had it arranged to be taken with me.", he leaned as far as he could in his chair, he was panting. A little drool leaked from his lips as his body continued feeling the ripples of pain Lohen left on him.
"Arranged how.", Lohen walked forward, squatting in front of the man. He gripped his hair to make him see eye-to-eye with him. It was not a question, it was a demand.
"I…the…captain…I spoke on her behalf to get some moved…seeing as the routine schedule for inspection was coming…", Lohen's eyes widened but quickly he collected himself and his expression. The blank stare he gave the fool was more than enough to state he wasn't impressed. He pushed the man back, so hard the chair fell back onto the floor. Not only did this waste of breath and air spoke on his captains behalf- but possibly risked questioning of her authority within 5th company.
Very smart indeed.
Lohen rubbed a hand over his face. As fun as it was beating information out of this guy, he was getting annoyed. Worse bored.
"Who in 5th company easily handed over the firearms?", he walked over to the man, who's back was flat against the floor. The man sputtered a few identifiable names, Lohen made the curt reminder to have those go through a little bit of training to understand when and when not to ask further questions on certain things. Like handing out firearms based off one guys whim and claim to their captain's name.
He wanted to kick the guy in the head, wanting him to spit more blood on the concrete, but no-no. He'd never hear the end of it from Varka, much more he could be sent to confinement for going overboard.
"You…you really are who-what they say you are…a dog…for her.", the man chuckled. His voice was gurgled in the back of his throat, a smile that deserved no teeth appeared on his face. Lohen's eyes cut back down at him, hardening into a glare. "You..are like an attack dog…soon as I mention her you get up in arms…makes you seem desperate…hah..yes…desperate and pitiful."
The metal of his boot collided with the mans skull without further thought. He'd prefer to cut the man down with a blade, but for as much worthless jabber he was spewing this would have to do. The fear and worry of being chewed out quickly dissipated at the mention of his captain. He didn't care about whatever was said about him, no. No he did not, what caused such a reaction was the tone of referring to you. Call it his lack of patience for the man, but the tone he spoke you of was what earned him such treatment. He was already gloating on almost getting away with it, even writing in one of his reports to his employer about "how easy" it was to use your approval and authority.
The spy's head earned itself a nasty gash and bruise. The side of his head began to bleed, somewhere near his hairline. The force of the kick was so loud it bounced off the walls of the confined room they were in. Lohen squatted back down, yanking the fools hair once more. Lohen's voice being low and cold.
"You're lucky. If you truly want what you've been begging for, I would have given you the release you crave so badly.", he dropped the mans head back against the floor. It would be another few hours before a team was sent out to collect everything and the rat as well. He returned to his stance against the wall, shaking his head.
It did not matter how many hours it would take. It was him and this incompetent waste stuck in this room. He could go all day if needed. He just needed the man breathing and somewhat alive.
Perhaps he was right about one thing, he was a "attack dog" for his wife, yes. Yes, he was. He'd kill for you without second thought, tear anyone down who'd dream of harming you.
Lohen knew you were capable of handling your own challenges, you were thousands of miles away on the frost-withered mountain right now doing such. He'd never question your skill nor try to put you down for your skill set. He's a tease, sure but to completely write you off for such? No. He had too much respect for you in such ways. Why do you think he wanted you to put him through each and every test you could give against him? To spar with you at any given moment.
Yes, to see you at your best gave him a sense of euphoria unlike any other.
However, he'd still do it. For the satisfaction of knowing the person who brings him comfort, warmth, love, and security would never have to see the scum he'd clean away. Just for you he would.
Now, he just needed patience. The clock was ticking down, those minutes will turn to hours eventually. He wasn't far from the border of Mondstat and Liyue, in a small storehouse. He knew regardless of the time, someone of the knights would be on their way as planned to check up on his progress. Given his earlier than planned schedule, he'd bet it'd be later into the day or earlier into the morning when someone would arrive.
Sure this was a mission supposed to be done in a matter of weeks, he chopped it down to a few hours. Oh well, more time to think freely. Plan his week and your return.
His hands were pressed together, his left thumb pressed against his gloved ring finger. Feeling for the gold band underneath his glove. His eyes remained focused, his mind alert. However long this will take, it should be worth it.
The mountain of Dragonspine were unkind to those unprepared.
Below freezing cold temperatures, dangerous terrain, and areas where your vision is severely impaired? A hazard waiting to happen and risks to befallen onto your group.
The group in question were researchers from Fontaine wishing to explore the mountain and its ruins. Some even wishing to see the mechanisms that lay alone and forgotten on the frozen slopes. Originally they were to be handed off to the Adventurer's Guild, however seeing as they were somewhat of diplomats from a foreign nation. It raised concerns about whether them traveling alone or with a seasoned adventurer would be the right call.
The Guild had no one to fulfill the commission, so the group of scholars requested the knights for their services. Which earned them a stern "no". Why? It wasn't necessarily in the duties of the knights to watch over a group of researchers, it was best fit for the someone of the Adventurer's Guild to take commission on.But after some negotiation and proof they were diplomats, Jean had to ask around for someone to escort them through the mountain.
Many names came up, such as Eula, Albedo, Amber, anyone really. But those names were all busy, Albedo was helping out with something concerning a young dragon named Durin. Eula and Amber were taking a trip to Fontaine to meet up with a certain champion duelist for a rematch. So Jean used Eula's request and asked for you to step into this.
Eula requested you on the belief that someone with pristine understanding of rifles and firearms could do a substantial job of protecting anyone on the mountain.
How kind of her.
Your toes were beginning to feel numb within your boots.
You were given the assignment with a already at-her-limit Jean pleading with you to take it. You weren't going to deny her, the papers on her desk left by the Grandmaster was more than enough proof she had a lot on her plate. She thanked you deeply and promised a reward fit for such an assignment.
Luckily you were accompanied by a young Knight, Howard. He too shared your sentiment of being stranded on the mountain with researchers who used an out-dated map instead of visiting a cartographer as suggested.
The journey to the mountain luckily started in Springvale so a few hours were cut down. By the time you made it into Dragonspine to set up camp, it was already late into the day. Outside the mountain the sun was setting on the nation of wind.
There were a few things to mention on why you could feel this journey would be delayed. Other than the map issue…it was the time issue.
You weren't an expert on ancient ruins or technology that laid on the mountain. But you were aware of time passing you by. The plan for this, as explained by Jean was about a week. Not including the travel to and from the mountain. But in that, the lead researcher had informed you, that time scale was based off their information with the old map.
With the newly updated map- it was looking to be longer…since they wanted to venture into the mountain to take pictures and study things that remained.
You did have to reel the group back about how far you could travel up the mountain, going to the peak would be unwise and dangerous. That and entering the inner chasm of the mountain without proper gear was dangerous. Even members of the Adventurer's Guild would refuse without proper planning (that or they'd triple the money).
The other thing was worrying about the well-being of the group. You've barely been near the mountain for a day, and Howard started sneezing and coughing. However he's assured you that he was keen on pushing through the entire time.
Taking a seat within the camp, you clasped your hands together and blew warm air into them. You'd taken your gloves off to clean the rifles and do a small inspection just in case and to pass the time. That was the other thing- it was boring.
That was the worst part.
All of this was taking pictures, talking about said pictures, then redoing the set up of the cameras for another location. Boring.
You straighten your posture, letting your back crack and relax. Your mind was twisting through images, images of the mountain.
From white and frosted landscapes, to the green fields near Windrise, then to a set of mint and crimson eyes. Eyes that were teasing in their very nature but softened once they laid their sight on you.
You sighed as now was not the time. Well-it was the time seeing such because of the revelations you've had. Anyone would be giddy to know their husband loved them. So giddy you found yourself smiling while on the way to Springvale that you had to snap yourself out of it and focus.
You also didn't get too much sleep, you and Lohen just talked after your shared intimacy. What about? Anything that came to mind, reminders about a firearm inspection 5th company had coming up, about his parents feelings about you thus far, and other things. (You did promise you'd let him meet your family in the coming weeks).
You relished in the small tender moments you got, even as you drifted in and out of consciousness. In the final hours, sleep did take its victory over you. You didn't want the moment to go away, to fade into your memories. But those memories are pushing you to suffer through this boring absurdity for the sake of a good reward after.
This was going to be a long week.
It had been 3 days since Lohen finished his "interrogation" with the rat. He refused to use that mans name for reasons he made obvious to the knights who came to check in on him.
He was alive, breathing, heart beating just as promised and ordered.
Varka gave Lohen a pat on the back for managing so well despite the timing and chaos of it all. But upon seeing the spy who infiltrated their ranks…it was no surprise he handled everything so well.
Sitting in the Grandmaster's office, Lohen twirled a blade between his fingers. His eyes were unfocused as he was in deep thought.
He wonder's how your mission is going. he caught wind about what the mission was actually about and nearly fell to the floor cackling. He could've guessed you weren't having the best of times. Busying himself for the last 48 hours, even forgoing sleep was warranted sure, but not the boredom he was facing.
Lohen surely wanted you to return by the end of the week, presumably to help with the firearm inspection, spend a nice weekend with you, even go out for a spar or two- you know something nice after cleaning his boots of the scum he's been in proximity with. Vaguely listening to Varka he learns that won't be the case.
"Lohen? Lohen! Are you even- ugh why do I even try. Anyways, can you at least write the report for this assignment. And I mean for you to write the report. Like you, yourself.", Varka deadpanned at the younger knight. Lohen simply shrugged.
It was no secret he never wrote his reports, the only time he did was when he sat down next to you to do them, or you forced him. Even then, he only wrote his name or few key details. Otherwise some random knight was picked off to do it for him with "special training" added to help them be efficient.
"Write a report you'll never read you mean?", Lohen fired back, a grin pulling at his lips as Varka shook his head. "If I recall, its the Cardinal and Jean who read most of the reports nowadays sir…so why should I, hm?"
"Its not about who reads it, its the statue of expectation to write one for yourself. You know what- never mind. Just get it written and you can get me to sign it. Not a forged signature either.", Varka quickly added, again the younger knight only shrugged as if he was unaware of it all.
The office went quiet for a moment, Lohen didn't spike the Grandmaster's drink for once, which when Varka took a sip was hesitant to do so. But upon seeing no signs, he lowered his mug to shoot a look at Lohen.
"Usually you're roaring to get out of here and escape my nagging. What gives kid?", Varka turned in his chair, inspecting the blank expression on Lohen's face. Again, the young man shrugged. Lohen rose from his seat and left the office without answering. Varka only shook his head, but a small look of concern was etched onto his face.
Walking through the halls, he was spotted by Lisa. Quickly the librarian wanting to know about Mondstat's newlyweds of knights, came to a pause seeing the blankness she was faced.
"Oh! Lohen- you look…in different spirits, what's wrong sweetheart?" Her voice held similar concern Varka's face carried. In her eyes it looked like he was close to pouting. "Aw, don't tell me you miss your dearest?", she cooed.
Her words of teasing snapped something back into place. Lohen quickly ignored her and carried on back to Dorman Port, Lisa only snickered to herself. It was beyond cute, in her eyes it made complete sense. Young lovers spending time apart must feel like years will pass when its only been days. She sighed and walked back into the library, eagerly walking to chat with Kaeya about the revelation.
Back in the port, Lohen continued his other duties. Holding target demonstrations, handing his reports off to be written, and scoping out any camps of suspicious activity. Just anything to cease the boredom.
It was odd, any other time in his life, he had an immediate source to stop said boredom. Now the source for this spell was away on a frozen mountain he couldn't just go and climb. He'd love to, but dropping in on your work, no matter how boring it could be, would be wrong of him to do. (No matter how much he deeply wants to, he could imagine the surprise on your face)
The reasons was right in front of his face, it was his newly admitted love and profoundness for you. The very essence of his soul felt linked to you and your very being, so going without you felt hollow? Empty? Something to be desired?
The other reason he could deduce while walking through the ruins of the old sanatorium, looking for anything to do, is he spent an ungodly amount of time with you. Yes, marriage will do that, he knows. But even in your professional work, you worked beside each other, you saw each other throughout the day, you checked in on him when you had the chance. He already knew he slept poorly without you, now it was proven his mood dampened too.
But like with many things, this will pass. He just has to know how to spend it. So, with polearm in hand, he continued hunting for something to satisfy his boredom, a fight that cuts to remind him that the time in between too will pass.
It was nightfall of the 6th day on Dragonspine.
The final day.
It was about as correctly timed thankfully, a week. Only to spare a few days to travel back to the city. You already knew getting back directly to the port would be impossible with how tired you were. You felt like a corpse walking. Carrying a 14-pound rifle on your shoulder for a week straight, days and nights, was enough to render you for rest.
Your sleep also suffered. From watching guard at night, swapping with Howard every few hours (however you did let him sleep in a little longer sometimes, you felt bad at how hard it was to wake up in the cold). Your cheeks burned from the cold winds surging through the mountains, your eyes were watering so often you felt like your tears could freeze.
As much as you want to complain, the experience wasn't too bad. The stories the researchers told were interesting to say the least. Hearing about Fontaine's mountain ranges and their large sea (which you learned is actually a lake but the citizens of the nation call it the sea), as well as trying some of the snacks they'd brought with them on their journey.
The next morning it was planned for you to escort them back to the city and to a proper lodging instead of a campsite. You too would have to stay in the city before heading back the port. It would be in perfect timing for your tasks tomorrow, you were secretly praying you'd be back earlier so you wouldn't have Lohen carry out the inspections. If he already did the demonstrations, then the least you could catch up on was the inspections for firearm safety.
Most of all, you missed him.
If you were to admit it out loud you'd rather perish than face his teasing, but you did.
It felt so childish of you that a single person could make you mourn their presence so much. But he wasn't just a single person, no- he was something of your everything. You knew that now, you believed it too. Your body still had the proof of such declaration after all.
You missed the banter and random conversations, it was sometimes too quiet up on the mountain, the only entertainment you had for the meanwhile was your own thoughts.
Your eyes fall shut once more, in this moment you'll take some well-needed rest. Your dreams are filled with fields of flowers, under a sunny warm sky that breathes new life into you. Beside you Lohen sits beside you, you couldn't make out the words coming out his mouth, but with how relaxed he seemed, it had to be a story you'd enjoy. He leans back onto the patches of grass and colorful flowers, offering your rightful spot next to him to rest.
His heartbeat fills your ears, a sound you've come to think of when you wanted sleep to come and take you away. A sound you frankly been missing for days now.
A heartbeat in sync with your own.
You sleep only for a few hours into the night, the rest would be spent watching over the camp. Your hours spent away were coming to a close, when the sun appeared over the horizon, it was like the final call of going home.
The camp sets back out for the main city of Mondstat, you write your report despite how much your eyes were playing tricks on you. Jean congratulated you for doing such (boring), grunt work. She looked apologetic at your state, wishing you to take a day off to get some proper rest.
As much as you wanted to take it, you knew better to hold onto that day for another time. You promised her that the rest of this day will be spent well. You did take a nap at the headquarters, Lisa sitting beside you reading while you rested, silently watching over you.
The sun was high in the afternoon when you arrived back at the port, your feet were moving quickly, you gave quick greetings to the knights on patrol as you hurried from Millhaven. You quickly dropped everything off at home, shrugging off your coat, boots, everything before going to bed in your comfy bed.
You were only to rest for a few minutes before getting back up to catch up with the others, but your body sunk into the mattress and rested. Refusing to get back up and face the rest of the work day.
Your eyes were closed, face mushed into a pillow as you slept. It wasn't the typical "beauty sleep" as some would call it but good sleep. The only missing thing was a hand to search for yours in your sleep.
Just a few more minutes you suppose, just a few more.
The sun was setting in the windows when Lohen arrived home. He was expecting a quiet and empty house, but seeing your winter gear placed neatly near the coat closet near the entryway, he knew better.
Today wasn't a day he'd call remarkable, the inspections happened without any problem, (more like no one wanted any more problems, some of the knights even checked the safety's on their rifles on themselves before he checked it for them.) But the work got done-which he was satisfied with.
There were already rumors spreading of his "off mood", from days prior, he could thank Lisa for that. There were also rumors of how bad your sleep has gotten, it did not take the nation long to deduce why. Even Varka told him to head home early to check on you when they spoke today.
Lohen climbed the stairs with eased silence, he slowly pushed open the bedroom door to find you dead to the world. A smile did appear on his face at how cute you were, sleeping soundly. Your brows were closely knit as your hand was tight on his pillow, as if you were confused about his lack of presence beside you in your sleep.
He approached the side of the bed you were sleeping on, kneeling to cup your face. He could wake you, use cryo to jostle you awake, but you've probably had your fair share of the cold. Instead he properly tucks you in, resting your head on your pillow. He took off his boots, his outer jackets and layers, and placed his weapons aside.
Once he was suitable for bed he crawled and cradled you close to his chest. Your head turns over to rest on his chest, forgoing the pillow completely. Your expression relaxes quickly, peace washing over you.
He didn't need to sleep, though his body craved it for the poor sleep he's gotten, he instead just dances his fingers across your cheek and forehead. He leans down and presses a long kiss to your forehead, wishing you a goodnight.
It wasn't a big reunion, or anything flashy. That wasn't what either of you two are, but this, even in your sleep your body recognizes him, was worth more than any celebration.
Tomorrow he'll fill you in about his mission, the rest of his boring week, and the inspections. Right now he wanted you to rest.
Slowly his eyes too felt heavy, much to his dismay, soon he rested his head atop yours and fell a sleep. His hand finds yours in his drifting to dreams, without a surprise yours intertwines with his, giving it a gentle squeeze.

I always wanted to know what Matthias would look like as a hunter. So I made a design! This is actually from a few weeks ago.
Explanation under the cut.
I think that, since Matthias has always been compared to and replaced by Louis, his worst nightmare would be to be compared to him or, in this case, sort of turned into. They now not only share appearance (sort of, he only has one half of a face and its not his own) but a body too.
I think his abilities would be something like pulling strings down to control / hold a survivor still for a few seconds. Or maybe summoning a little puppet that looks like Matthias (kind of like Matthias can summon / turn into a mini Louis?) to have it roaming similar to Hell Ember.
